Chapter 33 The Luna’s Stand
Chapter 33 — Aria’s POV
The morning sunlight spilled across the room, warm and golden, but it didn’t touch the unease twisting in my stomach. Today, for the first time, I would truly act as the Luna of the pack. Not just as Aiden’s mate in name, but as the woman who had a voice, who others would look up to—or at least, that was the plan.
I ran my fingers over the fabric of my dress, smooth and dark, cut to the perfect elegance that Aiden had chosen for me. Even as I admired it, I couldn’t stop the small tremor of anxiety running through me. What if I failed? What if I said the wrong thing? What if the pack didn’t accept me?
The thought of Mina was never far. I could still picture her wicked smile at the ceremony, the glint of jealousy hidden behind her polite nods. She hadn’t given up. And I knew, even if she didn’t say it, she would try to undo everything quietly, like a shadow slipping through the cracks.
Aiden’s presence grounded me. He stepped into the room, casual but sharp-eyed, his dark gaze assessing me with that familiar mix of pride and teasing amusement.
“You’re thinking too much,” he said, leaning against the doorframe. His arms were crossed, but the corner of his mouth lifted. “Do you want me to carry you there? Save yourself from all the drama?”
I shook my head, forcing a laugh. “I have to do this. I need to… I need to show them who I am, not just who I am with you.”
He pushed off the frame and approached, brushing a stray strand of hair from my face. “Good. That’s my Luna. Stand tall. Speak as yourself. And remember, I’ve got eyes everywhere—any trouble Mina or anyone else tries to start will reach me immediately.”
I nodded, taking a deep breath. His reassurance, simple as it was, made a tiny spark of courage ignite inside me.
We left the house together, Aiden walking slightly behind me, letting me lead the way. The pack women were gathered in the meeting hall, chatting softly in small groups. I could feel their eyes on me, some curious, some skeptical. The moment I stepped in, the room shifted—subtle, but noticeable. The air thickened.
“Good morning, ladies,” I said, my voice steady even as my heart raced. “Thank you for being here today.”
A hush fell over the room. I could see the whispers begin, soft at first. I knew some were questioning me already—my past, my sudden rise as Luna, the rumors that Mina had sown. I didn’t need to hear the words; I could feel the doubt in the air like a cold draft.
I took a deep breath, straightening my back. “I know many of you have concerns,” I began, choosing my words carefully. “And it’s natural. You are protective of this pack. I am honored to be Aiden’s mate, but more than that, I am here for all of you.”
A few heads tilted, some women nodding, some still skeptical. My stomach tightened, but I pressed on.
“I do not claim to be perfect,” I continued. “I am not here to replace anyone or take anything that is rightfully yours. I am here to work with you, to ensure that our pack grows stronger and safer for everyone.”
I paused, letting my words sink in. I noticed one woman shift uncomfortably, whispering to another, but the way she glanced at me—curious rather than hostile—was a small victory.
Then came the faintest smirk from the corner of the room. Mina. I felt her presence like a cold weight. My lips tightened, but I refused to react. This wasn’t about her today. This was about me, and my new role.
“Everyone will have a voice here,” I said softly but firmly, letting my tone carry across the room. “And everyone’s loyalty and dedication will be respected. Those who doubt or spread lies about one another will face consequences, as this pack thrives on trust, not deceit.”
A stir went through the room. I saw some women nodding slightly, reassured, while others looked away, clearly uncomfortable with my words. That tension, though, was exactly what I wanted—it showed I was taken seriously.
I let my gaze drift around the room, meeting eyes wherever I could. “I am open to questions, suggestions, and concerns. But I will not allow gossip, jealousy, or fear to disrupt the harmony of this pack. We are stronger together.”
I noticed Aiden standing by the doorway, a faint proud smile on his face. My chest swelled slightly—he believed in me. That was all that mattered right now.
The whispers subsided. The women seemed cautious, unsure of how to respond, and in that silence, I felt a surge of power—not arrogance, but control. I was Luna now. I had to act like it, think like it, and make them see it.
Then, as if to test me, a woman from the back raised her voice, soft but pointed. “And what about… the rumors? People say—”
I cut her off gently but firmly. “Rumors will always exist. But I ask you to judge me by my actions, not by what others say in whispers. Let the pack see my dedication through my work, my respect for all of you, and my loyalty to Aiden.”
A few heads lowered in acknowledgment. Others still wary, but no one dared to speak further. Mina’s smirk faltered slightly. That tiny slip of her composure was enough to reassure me.
I let out a quiet breath, feeling the tension in my shoulders ease ever so slightly. “We will have meetings like this regularly,” I said, my voice softening. “I want us to grow together, learn from one another, and ensure every voice matters. But let me be clear: anyone who tries to harm our pack from within will face the consequences.”
The room stayed quiet. The energy shifted—it wasn’t warmth yet, but it was respect. And respect was a start.
I glanced at Aiden again, and he gave me a nod, his eyes dark and protective. I knew, no matter what happened, he had my back. And I realized then, this—this feeling of power, responsibility, and belonging—was worth every moment of fear I had felt.
When the meeting ended, the women slowly approached, some with hesitant smiles, some still suspicious, but all willing to listen. I could see Mina at the edge of the hall, her expression tight, her hands clenched. She would plan, scheme, and wait for her opportunity. But today, I had won a small battle.
Aiden finally stepped forward and offered his arm. “You did well,” he said softly, leaning close. “This is exactly what a Luna should do. Calm, strong, and unafraid.”
I allowed myself a small smile. “I couldn’t have done it without knowing you had my back.”
He chuckled, brushing a strand of hair from my face. “Always. Now let’s go home. You deserve a break after showing everyone how unstoppable my Luna is.”
I followed him out, my steps steady, my heart lighter. Today, I had faced whispers, doubt, and the invisible threat of Mina—and I had survived. More than survived. I had shown the pack who I was.
And deep down, I knew this was only the beginning.
