Chapter 42 Secrets: A girl from the past.

Chapter 42 Secrets: A girl from the past.
~~Charlotte's POV~~

Damien and I both stepped out of the bedroom and headed to the living room as one of the soldiers informed us that Alexander had arrived.

Could he be here to cause trouble?

Damien wasn't dressed in formal wear, as he had planned to stay home all day with me. He was dressed in a hoodie and a pair of gray sweatpants; his hand slipped into mine as we walked down the stairs and saw Alexander.

Damien's soldiers surrounded him with a gun in their hands, all aimed at him, ready to fire at any slight provocation.

Alexander wore a calm expression on his face; both of his hands were on his head in surrender. Immediately his gaze caught Damien, and I took a step forward.

“What sick plan do you have, Alexander? Why did you come to my home?”

He shook his head. “No sick plan, I'm just coming to stop this feud between the two of us,”

Damien and I exchanged glances.

“Celeste has a plan. ”.

“The same Celeste you are working with?” Damien hissed.

“Look, I know I fucked up,” Alexander said, his hand still on his head in surrender. “But she's planning something. The underground party you'd be attending in two days? She has planned to plant men in every corner of it; she doesn't plan to let you walk out of there alive, bullets are going to be fired, she doesn't care who dies, and she wants to make sure you die.”

My fists clenched, the thought of Damien dying haunted me.

“Why are you telling me this?” Damien asked, “Is this a part of your sick plan? Make me believe you and then stab me in the back?”

Alexander withdrew his hand from his head. “I do not want to be enemies anymore; I'm willing to kneel before you to prove it.”

My lips parted with shock as he dropped to his knees. Why would Alexander kneel? Was he being sincere?

“I don't have time for this” Damien said, “Shoot him” he ordered.

“Don't shoot!” Ezera's voice echoed through the place. I looked up to see her rushing in; she froze as she walked to the middle, heavy breaths escaping her lips as she stopped a few inches away from Alexander.

She tugged on her hoodie as she turned to face Alexander. “Are you stupid? Why would you come in here knowing Damien would try to kill you?”

My brows pinched together. When did the two of them get so close?

“I want to make everything right.” Alexander slowly stood to face her. “I don't want us to be on opposite sides.”

Damien and I exchanged confused glances.

“Y…you did this for me?” Ezera asked.

“Okay, what is going on here?” Damien asked, his patience growing thin.

Alexander's gaze turned to face him. “I want to make peace with you because…I'm madly in love with one of your soldiers.”

Damien’s jaw clenched. “My wife is off limits.”

“Not here.” He slipped his hand into Ezera's and lifted it. “Her.”

One of the soldiers burst into loud laughter. “How stupid can you be to claim that the boss has feelings for you?”

But I don't think Alexander was stupid; the look in Ezera's eyes said it all. “It's true,” she admitted in a low tone.

Her gaze met Damien’s. “I'm sorry.”

Damien took a step forward. “Do you love this man?”

Ezera nodded, “Yes.”

“Do you understand that he’s our enemy?”

She froze and blinked before she finally spoke, “I…I know, but he's willing to drop it all for me.”

I watched as Damien stopped a few inches away from them. “Do you understand that he could be doing this to get into our inner circle?”

“He would never do that,” she defended.

Damien gazed at her for a few seconds. “You sound like you trust him.”

She nodded. “I do….”

He tried to look at Alexander, “I don't completely trust you, but for Ezera’s sake I'm willing to put the feud aside”?

A smile tugged at Ezera's lips. I had never seen her smile like a kid who had successfully snuck out for a party.

On the other hand, I could finally see that Damien cared for Ezera like a sister; he tried to hide it, but he worried about her well-being.

Damien stretched his hand to Alexander. “If what you said about Celeste turns out to be true, I'll fully trust you.”

Alexander accepted his handshake, “Thank you.”

“Get out of my house,” Damien said. “Let’s talk tomorrow morning about Celeste’s plan.”

Alexander turned to look at Ezera and then back to Damien. "Of course," he slowly turned to leave. As he turned to leave, Ezera turned to follow him.

“Ezera, came back.” Damien's voice was stern.

She slowly turned around. “Yes?” She walked closer to Damien; the rest of the soldiers began to walk out as well.

“If he is not trustworthy, then you have brought an enemy to me,” Damien stated.

“I trust him,” Ezera insisted, her gaze turned to meet mine. She didn’t look at me angrily or with hate; instead, her eyes pleaded, “Please, you have to trust him.”

I looked at Damien. “I think we have to give him a shot.”

Damien sucked in a deep breath. “Only because you are family.”

Ezera smiled and jumped into his arms, “Thank you.”

Damien patted her and pulled away from her.

Ezera turned and ran off, obviously to catch up with Alexander. I smiled at Damien. “They are a surprise.” I walked towards him.

“Indeed,” he wrapped his hands around me.

I gazed at him, “But what if Celeste is right and she wants to kill you? It would kill me.”

He placed a kiss on my forehead. “I promised I'd live for you. I meant it, every word, but for now let's focus on taking Celeste down.”

“Oh. My. God!” A high-pitched voice echoed across the place.

Damien's gaze swept up, and I turned around to see who it was.

It was a young lady with short blond hair; she had on a pair of black pants and a black sweater. Beside her were several luggages.

“Damien!” She shouted in excitement.

Her luggage fell as she rushed to Damien; she ran past me as if I wasn't there and jumped into his arms, her legs wrapped around his waist. “I miss you so much!”

Before Damien could react, she pressed her lips against his.

My heart sank as I watched this. Who was this woman? Why was she so intimate with him?
