Chapter 64: Expose
I was still wondering what tactics Layla would use to win Julian back, but I never expected this move.
How long can affection gained by using sex appeal really last?
"What are you looking at?" Gabriel turned to me.
I snapped back to reality, tilted the umbrella a bit more toward him, and smiled lightly. "Nothing, just noticed Julian's face looks a bit flushed. I wonder if he's feeling unwell."
He wasn't unwell—he was feeling too good.
Julian's eyes clearly showed nervousness. "Maybe it's the heater in the back that's too hot."
As he spoke, he made a show of unbuttoning the top button of his coat, trying to make himself look more natural.
Layla followed behind him, a barely noticeable smugness on her face.
Having an affair right in front of us must be pretty thrilling.
But how did they plan to deal with the sexual desire stirred up on the road?
Gabriel looked over at Julian too, clearly noticing his panic.
"Layla, you go in first. I need to talk to Julian."
Julian stopped in his tracks.
The smugness on Layla's face faded a bit. She seemed reluctant to leave, but under Gabriel's calm yet commanding gaze, she had no choice but to leave awkwardly.
"It's cold out here. You should go back inside too."
I nodded. "Okay."
I handed him the umbrella and took another one from Everett, opening it as I walked toward the house.
In the rain, Gabriel sent Everett away.
Julian was pushing Gabriel, and I could read one sentence from Gabriel's lips.
"Anastasia just passed away. You'd better know when to stop! Don't forget, Anastasia was your wife!" Gabriel's face was ice-cold.
Julian kept his head down, showing no reaction. I couldn't tell what he was thinking.
As soon as I entered, I found the Torres family all sitting in the living room. My heart leaped with joy.
Looks like there'll be quite a show tonight.
Layla had worked so hard on the road to get Julian interested—she definitely wouldn't miss such a good opportunity. She'd surely make another move tonight.
If the Westbrook family and the Torres family saw Julian and Layla's shameful affair with their own eyes, wouldn't that be quite a scene?
I suppressed my satisfaction and put on a confused look as if I'd just walked in.
The Torres family all looked exhausted, clearly still grieving my loss.
When they saw this face of mine, they still hadn't adjusted.
But I felt completely relaxed, smiling and nodding slightly to everyone in the living room.
"Mr. Torres, Mrs. Torres, you're all here."
From the moment I entered the living room, I kept my eyes on Layla. Even during dinner, I deliberately sat down next to her.
Sure enough, Layla started getting restless right at the dinner table.
Her right hand held her utensils, but her left hand reached under the table.
And sitting to her left was Julian. What she was doing now was obvious.
Watching her behavior, I suddenly remembered the past.
During those days when Julian had amnesia, when Layla came over for dinner, did they also secretly touch each other when I wasn't paying attention, or do other things?
To get that kind of thrilling pleasure?
Gabriel noticed me spacing out and put a lot of food in my bowl. "No appetite?"
I smiled and shook my head. "Just thinking about which dish to eat."
"But since you're serving me, I don't have to struggle with the choice." I happily ate the grilled ribs in my bowl.
I looked up at Gabriel, thinking of what he'd said to Julian in the rain: "Don't forget, Anastasia was your wife."
Was he defending Anastasia? As Julian's uncle, or as an observer?
Or maybe he was just warning Julian not to embarrass the Westbrook family?
But Gabriel's thoughts ran deep—I probably couldn't figure him out.
Just as I was thinking about how to set up Layla and Julian, the opportunity presented itself.
Right after everyone finished dinner, Layla quietly disappeared. Not long after, Julian received a text message and left about half a minute later.
Couldn't wait that fast?
I quietly followed him and watched him walk into the greenhouse.
That place was usually empty at night. The heat was on inside, full of delicate flowers that couldn't handle the cold—wasn't it the perfect place for an affair?
I didn't go in, just pressed against the door to listen.
Inside came Julian's voice, pretending to be upright. "Why did you call me here? What do you want to do?"
Then came Layla's seductive voice. "Julian, I really miss you so much. You haven't touched me in so long."
"Layla, don't you know how many eyes are watching outside? If someone finds out..."
"So what if they find out?"
Layla's voice carried a reckless petulance. "Julian, ever since you remembered some things, you've been getting colder and colder toward me. Do all the things between us not count anymore?"
"Anastasia is gone, but I can still give you warmth. I don't need anything else—I just want you. Julian, feel my heart. It misses you so much."
From the sounds of it, they were definitely about to have sex.
I quietly left, planning to find an audience for their show.
At that moment, the Torres family was just about to leave. I quickly called out to Eleanor. "Mrs. Torres, wait!"
She turned around, looking puzzled. "What is it, Samantha?"
"I heard Mr. Torres loves jasmine flowers. Yesterday when I passed by the greenhouse, I saw the jasmines were all blooming. It's still early—would you like to come with me to see them, Mrs. Torres?"
As soon as I said this, Gabriel's gaze immediately swept over, his eyes probing.
Everyone knew Jack grew many rare jasmine varieties. Hearing there was a chance to see them, they immediately urged me to lead the way.
I turned to Gabriel. "Gabriel, do you want to come see too?"
Gabriel narrowed his eyes slightly, staring at me intently. "What exactly are you trying to pull?"
"Taking you to see a good show."
Without waiting for his answer, I pushed him straight to the greenhouse.
I don't know if Layla and Julian were too absorbed or if Layla deliberately wanted to create some atmosphere, but they weren't keeping their voices down at all.
"Julian, I really like you so much."
"Layla, I never realized you were so slutty before."
"Julian, of course I'd only be like this with you!"
We could hear these words crystal clear as soon as we reached the door.
Eleanor's face instantly turned pale.
Bruce was even more furious. He was the first to rush over, pushing open the greenhouse door. Without even bothering to turn on the lights, he roared, "What are you doing?"
