Chapter 19
Kia I stared at the door in stunned disbelief.
I was completely speechless.
What I had heard a minute ago was true? Daughter? His daughter? Did it mean he had a wife or girlfriend? He had someone he loved, someone he had let her carry his child. My mind wasn’t working. It froze. I reached for the glass of water and placed it on the nightstand. I gulped the whole water at once. Father and daughter, then where the hell was his wife? I stood up and walked towards the window. The fresh and cold air was hitting my bare skin and giving me goosebumps.
I had not been here for over 24 hours, and I got to know his precious thing. His daughter. I crossed my arms over my chest, glancing at the night. God had never shown me pity, and I had been living poor my entire life. He had never helped me. But now, he was showing me kindness. It became even easier for me to achieve my mission with Vivian’s daughter. I could hurt her, I could use her against him and after that, he would get to know the pain of losing someone. Someone close to your heart. My dad had been my lifeline and Vivian had snatched away my lifeline. I would snatch away his daughter and his wife, whoever he kept hidden from this world. I would wipe off his family. He had killed my father and brother. I would kill his entire family. I closed my eyes, breathing hard. My blood was boiling, and my hand was urged to break something to release my anger.
*********
The warm sunlight was filtering through the window and touching my face. The bed was across the large window. I checked the time. It was seven in the morning. I stood up and stretched my body, yawning. My mind was still thinking about last night’s incident. I couldn’t believe Vivian had a daughter. I took a quick shower and got ready to face him. I put on the red blouse with a plain knee-length skirt. I styled my hair and preferred natural make-up.
I went down, catching Harley’s loud voice, “I don’t want to talk to you.”
“Sweetheart, you are getting late for your school. Come here. I need to do your hair,” Vivian said. What? Did he know how to do hair?
I watched both father and daughter as they were facing each other. Harley was sitting on the couch with a pout face and on the other side, Vivian was holding a comb and waiting for his daughter.
“You’ve brought no women before her,” she retorted.
She would become a major problem in my mission.
With the click sound of my heels, I went down and caught their attention. Vivian glanced at me briefly. “She is nothing to me. Trust me, sweetheart. I brought her here because she needs my help and I need her help too. Rose is old now, she can’t handle all things alone. She needs someone, then Kiara will help her out.”
“What?” I stormed between both of them. “As far as I remember you have not mentioned me?!”
Vivian glared at me coldly, like he didn’t like being interfered with. “If I had not mentioned you, then I’m announcing to you right now that you have come here as a maid. If you want to stay here, then you have to pay.”
I had no other option, either. I needed to stay here at any cost, even if I had to work as a maid. I glanced at Harley, “If your dad wants me to work here, then I’m ready for this, but,” I met his eyes, “I don’t enjoy mopping. Can you arrange for someone to do this?”
He smiled amusingly. “My staff will take care of it. You’re here to help Rose in cooking and guarding her,” He pointed to his daughter.
Harley raised her brows and glared at her father. “I don’t want to be near her!!”
He approached her and sat down and did her hair. “I’m sorry, sweetheart, but this time you have to obey me,” he said while combing her blonde hair. She still looked pissed off but didn’t refuse him and let him do her hair. I couldn’t believe a man like him could be capable of these things? He was the boss of the mafia, but here only I could see the loving father. They both were reminded of me and my father.
“Kia, could you please help me in serving?” Rose asked me politely.
“Sure,” I said and walked into the kitchen. The smell of bacon and eggs filled the room. She took three plates out of the cupboard and handed them to me. I placed the breakfast on the table before taking my place. The dining table was enormous enough for dozens of people and here only two people were using such a large table. Vivian sat at the head of the table and Harley across from me, glaring at me. I ignored her and sipped my coffee.
Vivian carried a glass of milk and took a sip, and I watched him. “I didn’t know you also drink milk besides alcohol,” I laughed.
Father and daughter have ignored me, rolling their eyes and I kept my mouth shut. Vivian placed the glass in front of Harley. “It is ready to drink.”
I choked out the thing that I had eaten and coughed hard. “I didn’t know a thirty-year-old woman like you don’t even know how to eat properly,” Harley nagged.
I wiped off my mouth with a napkin. “I’m twenty-three, not thirty!” I snapped at her. She was getting on my nerves.
“But you look older with your wrinkled face,” she said while taking a bite of bread.
Wrinkles?
After abandoning my breakfast, I touched my face. I had put on natural makeup. “Really!” I looked at Vivian. “Do I look older?”
Didn’t I look attractive? I remembered his words. He had told me I was naked, but he didn’t get aroused, not even for a few seconds. That’s because I didn’t look attractive? I studied his face, higher cheekbones, prominent jawline, full lips, and even beautiful deep blue eyes. He had no wrinkles on his face. He was cleanly shaved, and his light brown hair was pulled into a short ponytail. God, he would drive me crazy.
He snapped his fingers, “What?”
I cleared my throat, embarrassing. Again, I was staring at him. “I was just checking your wrinkles. You have no wrinkles.”
“I know.”
I caught him in the corner of my eyes, and he was smirking, “You didn’t tell me do I look older?” I asked him, annoyed by his smirk.
“Not at all, but it doesn’t mean you have no wrinkles. No matter how much makeup you put to hide this, natural is natural. You are not naturally beautiful, but with makeup, you are appreciating,” his voice was laced with amusement. Was he joking?
I rolled my eyes. “I have no wrinkles and I’m beautiful.”
Harley rolled her eyes. “Without makeup, you look like a joker and with makeup, you look like a poker,” she laughed out loud even though I didn’t find it funny. But seeing the laughing little girl in front of me, I smiled at her.
“I take it as a compliment,” I gave her a wink and swallowed the piece of bread, “Anyway, I have a good poker face.”
“But still I could read your every thought, Kia,” Vivian said, and I gave him an ‘I don’t care to look. We ate breakfast silently. Harley kept glancing between both of us but found nothing.
“How old is she?” I asked.
“Six,” Vivian replied. I frowned because she was too small, and her mouth was too big. No doubt she was his daughter. Like father, like daughter. After finishing breakfast. He stood up. “I need to talk to you. Come into my study after an hour,” he said and walked towards the exit gate. Harley gave me a bored look before walking after her dad. I looked down at the empty plate, wondering what he wanted to talk about?
Rose came out of the kitchen and approached the table, taking my plate, but I stopped her. “I’ll take care of the dishes. Now I’m also the maid of this house. It would be better if we divided our work.” I held my plate and went into the kitchen.
The entire night I was thinking about one question, “Rose, can I ask you a question?” I glanced at her over my shoulder.
“Sure,” she replied.
“Where is Harley’s mother?”
She didn’t look at me, her back was facing me while she was taking care of other things. “She died when Harley was two,” her voice carried the sorrow. After a while, she faced me, and I could see the sadness in her dark eyes. “Do me a favor. Never ask this question to my master.” Before I could ask anything else. She left me alone, confused.
I knocked on the door and waited for his reply. It was not my style to knock on somebody’s room before entering, but I was at his mercy, so it was my duty to follow his orders, “Yes, come in,” I heard him and got inside.
He was working on his laptop and didn’t look at me. That damn laptop grabbed his attention. My hands were craving to shut down his laptop and made him look at me, but I chose another way, “I have not come here to see you while you’re working on your laptop. Say it. What do you want to talk about?”
And now he gave me all his attention, “I don’t understand. What is your fucking problem? You are always pissed off and pissed off by others, by your fucking mouth. Can’t you speak politely?!”
“No! Not after knowing who you are??” You are a murderer. My family murderer. He narrowed his eyes on my face. “You have such an adorable daughter. You didn’t tell me.” I threw my best fake smile. He didn’t speak, did I say something wrong because his expression grew colder.
He quickly abandoned his chair and paced toward me and the next moment he was towering over me even after wearing my high heels. He was at least four inches taller than me. “That’s why I’ve called you here. Now you know I have a daughter. It would be better for you if you keep your mouth shut. No outsider other than you knows that I also have a daughter. If anything happens to her, the whole blame will go on you, Kia. And I won’t think twice to pull my bullet in your brain” I swallowed seeing his terrified expression.
“You asked me here for these things.” I met his gaze. “Do you think I hurt that little girl? Do you think I came here to kill innocent people?” I scoffed.
He clenched his jaw. “I’ve brought you here for my good. From now on, I want you to take care of my daughter. You’ll drive her to school and pick her up back. You will guard her 24/7. You’ll make her feel like she has someone like her mother.” he caught my gaze and there was a tinge of sadness in his eyes only for a few seconds. “She has been bullied and mocked for being an orphan at school. You’ll make sure she will never cry again. I can’t see...” he stopped mid didn’t complete his sentence, trying his best to hide his emotion, “I hope you understand everything.”
I nodded to him, “Don’t worry, I’ll take good care of her.” I had a better chance of taking my revenge. I would kill his daughter and win over him, but how could I kill the little innocent girl? How could I kill someone who didn’t know her father’s sins? Vivian could kill the innocent, but I wouldn’t. How crazy I was thinking that I would kill the little girl! My only predator was Vivian, and I would kill him, eventually.
