Chapter 91 Encounter at the Prenatal Checkup
Time flew by, and soon it was time for Aria's four-month prenatal checkup. She was now wearing loose-fitting clothes, and although her belly had a slight bump, her outfit cleverly concealed it.
Arthur hadn't been home these past few days, which saved Aria the trouble of hiding things from him. She only needed to keep it from Elizabeth and the household staff.
That day, Aria went to the hospital for her checkup alone as usual.
After completing all the tests, she waited alone in the corridor for the results.
"Arthur, you don't need to be so careful. I'm not that fragile."
Suddenly, a sweet, delicate voice reached Aria's ears. She froze and instinctively looked toward the source of the sound. There was her so-called husband, carefully supporting another woman as they walked down the corridor.
His movements were so attentive, as if he was afraid of letting her bump into anything.
Watching this scene, Aria's breath caught, and she wanted to avoid them.
"Aria?"
Just as she was about to turn away, she heard a surprised, magnetic voice.
Arthur had spotted her.
Arthur was looking at her with surprise, seemingly not expecting to see her here.
Sophie also looked up. Seeing Aria standing alone in the corridor, a sharp glint flashed in her eyes. Her body went limp as she leaned into Arthur, "Arthur, slow down..."
Feeling the soft warmth in his arms, Arthur's body involuntarily stiffened. He instinctively looked at Aria, only to see her watching their intimate moment with an expressionless face.
When he turned his head to look at her, she merely nodded faintly in acknowledgment, then turned and walked away.
She looked as if she was afraid they might catch up with her.
Seeing Aria avoid them like the plague, Arthur gritted his teeth slightly and was about to go after her.
Sophie noticed Arthur's movement and timely grabbed his hand, saying weakly, "Arthur, I feel a bit dizzy..."
Arthur felt the tug on his hand. Seeing Sophie looking so uncomfortable, after an internal struggle, he decided to send Sophie back to her room first.
"Let me take you back to your room first."
Sophie nodded gently, "Okay."
Meanwhile, Aria stopped at the corner. Seeing that no one was following her, she gave a self-mocking smile.
She knew that if Arthur wanted to catch up, he definitely could.
But he still hadn't come after her, which was proof enough that he simply didn't chase after her.
His choice had been obvious all along, hadn't it?
However, Aria was also relieved. She was glad Arthur didn't catch up, otherwise how would she explain the pregnancy to him?
Arthur didn't know that by missing this chance, he had missed another opportunity to learn the truth...
Aria didn't stay long at the hospital. If she went back now, she might run into Arthur. She couldn't take that risk. She'd come back in a couple of days to get the report.
After thinking it through, Aria didn't linger at the hospital and left directly.
She had just returned to her studio when Arthur called.
Originally, Aria didn't want to answer, but Arthur seemed determined to keep calling until she picked up, so she finally answered the phone.
"Why didn't you answer my call?"
As soon as the call connected, Arthur's interrogation came through.
"Didn't notice."
Aria's answer was extremely perfunctory.
Arthur could clearly hear the dismissive attitude in Aria's voice. He gritted his teeth slightly, "What were you doing at the hospital? Were you trying to cause trouble for Sophie?"
Aria had thought Arthur might show some concern about why she went to the hospital, whether she wasn't feeling well.
But instead, Arthur thought she went to the hospital to cause trouble for Sophie!
Ha!
How ridiculous!
Was this how he saw her—as someone with such malicious intentions?
"What do you think?"
Aria's words were heavy with sarcasm.
"Did my mother tell you? Aria, let me tell you, Sophie's situation is special right now. Don't appear in front of her at this time. It will affect her recovery..."
Arthur heard the mockery in Aria's words and thought he had guessed right, warning her on his own.
But Aria didn't want to listen anymore and cut him off directly, "Arthur, is this how you see me? As a woman with such malicious intentions?"
Aria's question left Arthur speechless. For a moment, he didn't know how to respond. Her calm words made Arthur inexplicably panic, and he didn't know what to say.
Arthur's silence spoke volumes about his attitude. Aria found it laughable. What was she expecting? The fact that he could say such things proved this was what he truly thought.
"Ha, yes, you're right. I went to see Sophie, to see how miserable she is, to let her know what price she should pay for interfering in someone else's marriage. What a shame that before I could meet her alone, you discovered me."
Aria suddenly felt it was all pointless. Since this was what he thought, she might as well give him what he wanted.
Arthur had felt a trace of guilt, thinking he had misunderstood Aria.
But what Aria said next made that guilt disappear, replaced by anger that came through the phone line.
"Aria, what exactly are you trying to do?!"
"What am I trying to do? I should be the one asking you that! Since you want to be the good man taking care of her, then sign the divorce papers. Otherwise, I'll let the world know that Sophie is a homewrecker who won't come to a good end!"
Aria paused, "You wouldn't want Sophie to carry the label of a mistress even to her death, would you?"
Aria never thought that in the end, she would be using Sophie to force Arthur into a divorce. How ironic.
Arthur was furious, "Aria, you wouldn't dare!"
"You're welcome to try and see if I dare!"
Aria didn't want to continue talking with Arthur. She hung up directly, tossed her phone aside, and looked at the busy traffic outside the window with a deep sigh.
So be it!
If this could help her achieve what she wanted faster, then she'd play the role of this malicious woman!
It's just that the process was too painful...
At that moment, Arthur, who had been hung up on in the hospital corridor, was absolutely furious.
He never thought Aria would actually become so malicious. She actually wanted to cause trouble for Sophie!
And she was using her to threaten him!
How wonderful!
To leave him, she was really going to any lengths!
Well, he just wouldn't give her what she wanted. He wanted to see if she really dared to do those vicious things!
Arthur took a deep breath and made another call, ordering in a low voice, "Have someone watch Aria. Report any movement to me immediately!"
