An Uncooperative Guide
Julia had already tried to run once and it had taken Eliza an hour to get her because of all the traffic and pedestrians. It had been three days since they'd started through Virginia. Their progress was slow due to all the pit stops so Julia could use the restroom and refueling. Not to mention she'd needed to sleep and Julia refused to sleep in her car. If Eliza didn't need her, Julia would have already been dead.

She needed to hurry. Those kids needed help and he was the only one willing to help who knew where they were or even what was going on. She tapped her thumbs against the steering wheel as they sat at a red light. The car in front of them had barely gone over 30mph since they got to this little ghost town. The speed limit here was 55 and it surprised her that the little grey Volkswagen Beetle hadn't been pulled over yet.

She pulled around the slow car and raced off the second the light turned green. She heard Julia help in the back and when she looked in the rearview Julia's face was white as a ghost and she was clutching the pearl necklace she wore. Julia had been skittish ever since they'd gotten out of Richmond. The house was in the middle of the woods which meant they'd have to take to walking before long. They were close and Julia knew it just as well as she did.

Julia was afraid her mother would kill her. She wasn't allowed to just bring people to the house. Especially not when they planned to ruin everything. Eliza knew what had happened and she could tell. If Eliza had cracked the case then all he had to do was share the info with the children discreetly and when they presented it to Vivian then they'd be free or at least that's what Eliza thought.

Julia knew Vivian was done letting people go. They were all enemies in her mother's eyes. Julia had just been lucky enough to stay out of the warpath and now here she was headed right for it. She watched Eliza pull into a wide spot just outside a hiking trail. Now they had to walk. If she only could just slow their progress a bit more. Maybe get them lost somewhere along the way.
