Private Discussion
Alex hated the fact that he couldn't just tell the others what had happened. He wished more than anything that he could tell Sam because Sam was the only person he truly trusted here. He knew why Courtney split them up. She wanted to have more time to decide whether or not they wanted to endanger the others by telling them everything.
He was hoping nothing bad would happen to them and they'd just solve the case. The sooner the better. Now he wanted to solve this thing fast. If they managed to escape before she realized they'd gone down into the basement when they weren't supposed to then they could escape unscathed.
Luke and Courtney came out into the hall and headed towards the den. Alex followed without a sound. He planned to tell them about what he found out from Vivian the day before. They did deserve to know after all. He hoped he could squeeze that part in before they got to the business about the basement.
Courtney led the way to the den. It was a cozy room a little ways off from the living room and the foyer. She knew Sam had expected things to stay the same but there was a rather serious discussion she needed to have with Alex and Luke. None of them had addressed it the night before and this was a subject they couldn't just put to the side. She already knew where she stood. They couldn't just leave Sam and Tracy in the dark. After all, it could do more harm than good in the long run.
Alex curled up in one of the old leather chairs further away from where she sat at the old desk. Luke took his place on the nearby daybed. An uncomfortable silence settled in the room as they stared at one another. Neither one of them wanted to be the first to breach the subject.
Alex had obviously decided to take the safer route because he decided to tell them everything Vivian had told him the day before. He told them about Vivian's fiance, the divorce, and Vivian's daughter who still helped her to this day. He continued on telling them about Vivian's previous ‘detectives’. Of course he didn't know what had happened to them until last night so he didn't find that important until now.
“Wait so you went to see her yesterday? You knew there were others,” Luke's eyes had widened in shock as Alex told them everything.
“Yeah but I didn't think she… I didn't know that they were dead. And I didn't know about the basement,” Alex was being completely honest now. He knew that they needed to know everything now because they were all in this together.
“How did you know where she was last night,” Courtney had her suspicions about him being able to see Vivian.
“I um… I can see her even when you guys can't,” Alex fidgeted with the sleeves of his hoodie. He hadn't wanted to have this conversation with them just because he didn't know how they'd react. If someone had told him ‘Hey I see ghosts!’ he would have thought they were crazy but now, he knew they weren't just charlatans and that the supernatural really was real.
“That could be really useful at least now that we know we have to watch our backs,” Luke started, “Do you think she's found out yet? About us finding the basement I mean.”
“Hopefully not but we should probably tell the others just in case she does,” Courtney touched a strand of her golden hair behind her ear as she got up.
“Let's just try to break it to them easily okay CC?” Alex began to follow Courtney out of the den.
“Wait so we agree that they need to know?” Luke rushed to follow them. Despite having longer legs than them he still found himself a step behind when they made it to the hall.
Pov Change
Sam had gone to the library subconsciously as if Alex were there with him. It bothered him a little that he chose not to come with him but at least Alex was making an effort to befriend the others. Besides, Tracy wasn't that bad and at least they had been having a conversation while they worked. Tracy was actually telling him about her dads and her little brother. They all sounded so nice and the way he talked about them you could tell just how much she loved and missed them. He was about to tell her about his moms and his puppy when Courtney came in followed by Alex and Luke.
“We need to talk now,” Alex spoke up when suddenly the doors behind him slammed shut. Sam saw Alex jump as he backed away from the doors fast.
“Which one of you went into my basement? It's a rather special place to me,” Vivian's voice was icy as it echoed back off the walls. She appeared before them, her anger obvious.
