Chapter 116: CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTEEN

The house was still, too still. The air in the living room felt thick with the weight of our unspoken thoughts hanging between Damon and me like an invisible thread. He’d just returned, his face, a mask of grim determination, and I couldn’t help but notice how much his words had weighed on him. The news of Sienna’s next move had put us both on edge.

Kai was still asleep on the couch, his breathing steady and innocent, blissfully unaware of the storm that was brewing. Part of me wanted to shield him from all of it, to keep him far from the darkness that seemed to be closing in on us. But I knew that wasn’t an option, not anymore. He was part of this, whether I liked it or not. And I needed to protect him, protect both of us.

I glanced at Damon as he settled into the chair across from me, the lines on his face sharper than they’d been when we first met. The weight of everything was finally beginning to show in the way he moved, the way he spoke. He wasn’t the man I met months ago—the man who still had the fire and determination of an athlete. No, this was the man who had been battered by betrayal, a man trying to put the pieces of his broken life back together, and struggling to do so.

“I spoke to Eric,” Damon said quietly, his eyes never leaving the floor.

“Sienna’s getting ready to make her move, and it’s not going to be pretty.”

I swallowed, my throat dry. “What does that mean, exactly? What does she want from you now?”

Damon leaned forward, his hands clasped together as though they could keep the world from slipping away. “It’s not just about me anymore. It never was. She wants control, Winter. She wants everything I’ve built. She’s going to use Kai against me. I’m not sure how, but she’s going to do it.”

A cold knot formed in my stomach, and I felt the familiar rush of panic rising in my chest. “But how? How can she use Kai? He’s just a kid.”

Damon’s gaze met mine, his eyes burning with a mix of frustration and desperation. “I don’t know, but she’s good at manipulating people. I’ve seen it firsthand. And now that she knows about Kai, now that she knows I care…” His voice trailed off, and he stood up abruptly, pacing across the room. “She’s got leverage. She’s playing a game that I can’t win if I don’t figure out her next move.”

I watched him move restlessly, feeling the weight of the situation pressing down on us. I wanted to say something to reassure him, to tell him that we could beat this. But the truth was, I wasn’t sure if we could.

“What are we supposed to do?” I finally asked, my voice a whisper of dread. “How do we stop her?”

Damon stopped pacing, his eyes locking with mine. “We stop her by taking the power away from her. We find out exactly what she’s planning and make sure we’re one step ahead of her. She won’t get away with this. Not again.”

I felt the resolve in his words, but the fear lingered. Sienna wasn’t a typical adversary. She wasn’t someone who could be bargained with or reasoned with. She was ruthless, cunning, and she would do whatever it took to win. And if I was being honest with myself, a small part of me wondered if Damon was right. If we could beat her at her own game. But as the reality of our situation set in, I couldn’t shake the feeling that no matter how hard we tried, there was always going to be something out of our control.

I needed to keep my head clear. I needed to focus on what I could do, what we both could do. We had to find a way to stop her before it was too late.

I stood up, walked over to where Damon stood, and placed my hand gently on his arm. His muscles tensed beneath my touch, and I saw a flicker of vulnerability in his eyes.

“We’ll figure this out, Damon,” I said, my voice steady despite the storm raging inside me. “We’ll do it together. But we need to stay focused. We can’t let her break us.”

Damon looked at me, his gaze softening for just a moment before the storm took over again. “You’re right. We can’t. And we won’t.”

But as he spoke, the truth lingered between us like a shadow. The stakes were higher than either of us could fully comprehend. And as much as we wanted to fight back, the war with Sienna had only just begun.

Damon's POV

The weight of the world seemed to settle on my shoulders as I turned away from Winter. I could see the fear in her eyes, the same fear I felt gnawing at my insides. This wasn’t just about me anymore. This was about everything I had left.

I couldn’t let Sienna win. Not now. Not ever.

But I knew it wasn’t going to be easy. And I knew she wouldn’t give up without a fight.

I walked over to the window, staring out into the quiet night. I had no idea what she was planning, no idea how far she was willing to go to destroy everything I cared about. But whatever it was, I wasn’t going to let her succeed.

Winter had already been through too much, and Kai didn’t deserve to be caught in the middle of all this. I couldn’t lose them. Not now. Not after everything we’d been through.

“I’ll do whatever it takes,” I muttered under my breath, more to myself than to anyone else. “I won’t let her take everything I love.”

But in the back of my mind, I couldn’t shake the thought that it might already be too late.

There’s a spark between us, raw and real,

In every moment, we choose to feel.

The pull, the push, the dance we do,

Tangled in the space between me and you.

Words may fail, but our bodies speak,

In the silence, it's you I seek.

With every glance, every heated sigh,

You and I, we collide, we fly.

Friction, they call it, the heat we make,

A dance of passion, a risk we take.

In the tension, in the fight,

We find our truth, our dark, our light.

Your touch is fire, your kiss a storm,

But in your arms, I am reborn.

The world outside may fade and bend,

But in this space, we transcend.

The friction that burns between our skin,

Is the fire we ignite, again and again.

It’s not just the touch or the thrill of the night,

But the way we fight, the way we light.

We clash, we burn, we pull away,

Only to return, a brand-new day.

In the friction, in the heat we find,

Our hearts connect, two souls aligned.

We fight to keep, to hold, to know,

That in the friction, we only grow.

So let the world outside fall apart,

For in this fire, we’re a work of art.
