Chapter 70
The weekend finally arrived.
Levi and I were planning to go back to the Morgan mansion to see Celestia, but Aiden said that Celestia had finally gotten used to living there, and if we showed up, she might start missing home again.
We were both busy with work and really couldn't take proper care of the child.
"Mrs. Morgan, Ms. Cleo Morgan is here." Indigo spotted Cleo coming in with her child from a distance.
She'd been coming so often lately that the guards at the entrance didn't stop her anymore.
Given her personality, if they did stop her, she'd definitely call Levi and make things sound worse than they were, saying I was rude and unwelcoming to her.
"Indigo, go prepare some tea and a fruit platter."
She was a guest after all, though I had a pretty good guess about Cleo's intentions.
"Sure, Mrs. Morgan, I'll be right back."
After everything that had happened, Indigo had become more cautious. When I was home, she practically stayed by my side.
Our relationship had long gone beyond that of employer and employee.
"Say hello to Auntie Blair."
Cleo poked her child's back.
"Auntie Blair."
I smiled, "Hayden, long time no see."
"Go over to Blair and let her hold you, then next year she'll be able to give you a little brother." Cleo was used to feeling superior, acting like everyone wanted to be close to her.
Whether you have a boy or a girl is determined by the male anyway. Could holding her child really make me have a boy?
Hayden looked a bit uncomfortable. I could tell that after not seeing each other for so long, we had indeed grown distant.
"Where's Celestia? Call her down, the two kids can play together."
When she said things like this, she was usually planning to take off, dump her kid on me, and go have fun by herself.
"She's not home."
Cleo looked a bit surprised. She probably hadn't been back to the Morgan mansion in a while; otherwise, she couldn't have not known Celestia was there.
This showed that Aiden was protecting Celestia very well.
"Mom, I want to go outside and see the rabbits." Hayden seemed a bit uncomfortable. Now that he was a bit older, he felt restricted in other people's homes.
Cleo immediately changed her expression, "Go ahead, go ahead. Uncle Levi's house has lots of little animals."
As soon as Hayden left, her face turned sour again.
"I was hoping the kids could play together, but Celestia's not here."
I didn't respond. I didn't know what to say.
"I'm getting a divorce. He's so unmotivated, I really didn't expect him to be that kind of person, actually fooling around with someone else." When Cleo suddenly said this, I was a bit surprised.
After all, her husband was her schoolmate; they'd basically grown up together, what others called childhood sweethearts. At family dinners before, she'd always been showing him off.
Now there were cracks between them, too?
"Maybe there's some misunderstanding."
It's always better to encourage reconciliation than divorce. Since she'd come to me, I naturally had to say a few words. Actually, I didn't want to deal with her business at all. She was too unpredictable.
"Just leave Hayden here with you for now. I'm going to talk to him, but it's not convenient with the child around."
Looking at her all dressed up, and it being the weekend, she was probably going shopping again. She just found the child to be a burden and didn't want to take him.
She used to like dropping her kid off at my place.
"We're both pretty busy. I won't be home this afternoon either. Without Celestia, the child won't have a playmate, and Indigo has a lot to do, too. I'm afraid we can't take good care of him."
Sure enough, the smile on Cleo's face disappeared instantly.
"What could you possibly be busy with? What could you have to do staying at home all day?"
Cleo put her hand on her waist, "I heard about Arabella, too. My brother and Jessa have cooled off as well. He treats you so much better than before; you should be grateful."
What did one thing have to do with the other? What did this have to do with me watching her kid?
Because Levi treated me better, I should watch her child?
"I've made it very clear, I really don't have time. You want to relax, and I want some peace too. I can see that Hayden doesn't want to be here either. There are no kids at home to play with him; it's very boring."
I was just stating the facts.
"I'm just asking you to help me watch him for a bit. The child goes back to school tomorrow. Why are you making such a fuss?" Cleo was very impatient, as if I owed her something.
Indigo had been listening to our conversation from the side. Because Cleo had a bad temper, she never directly engaged with her.
But seeing my difficulty, she stepped forward.
"Ms. Morgan, if you don't mind, I could help watch him. It's just that I have a lot of work, so the child would have to follow me around. I don't know if he'd find that tiring."
"Of course, he can't follow you around. How could he do chores with you?"
Cleo really was straightforward, not hiding anything.
"Then I'm afraid we can't help. Mrs. Morgan has been too busy lately and has plans this afternoon, too. If you're not comfortable with that, you'd better take Hayden with you."
She hadn't expected Indigo to say that, and it put her in an awkward position.
"I'm running out of time. Stop wasting time. I'm leaving. Hayden hasn't had breakfast yet. Make him something to eat later."
Cleo felt that if she kept talking, she'd really have to take the child, so she grabbed her bag and rushed out. Seeing how fast she walked, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
With her temper, if her husband had cheated on her, she'd want everyone to know, have her family stand up for her, and put her husband at the center of public opinion.
"Mrs. Morgan, what do we do? She's like this every time. Even refusing her doesn't work." Indigo was helpless, too.
I had indeed been more direct than before, but Cleo was too thick-skinned. She didn't care whether others were willing or not.
Just then, Hayden came back from outside. He looked around and didn't see Cleo, looking a bit disappointed.
"Hayden, come here."
With Cleo treating him this way, the child was slowly becoming insecure, always being dumped on others, regardless of whether he was happy or not.
Hayden's personality was becoming more and more introverted, and he didn't like to talk much anymore.
"Do you want to go to the Morgan mansion to play with Celestia?"
He nodded, with hope in his eyes.
"Levi's not home, so it's no fun for you to stay with me. You can go to the Morgan mansion to find Celestia, but there's one thing - you two can't run around and jump. Celestia got hurt and is still recovering."
Boys always like to run around. They used to play those chasing games all the time. I was afraid they wouldn't be careful and might hurt Celestia again, which would be trouble.
Hayden nodded again. Seeing him like this, I felt sorry for him.
Having an impatient mother like Cleo was unfortunate. She used to show off her son to everyone, but now, for her own freedom, she didn't want to watch him even for a day.
"Mrs. Morgan, let me make the trip."
Indigo offered to take Hayden to the Morgan mansion. I was actually a bit tired, having worked late last night and not slept well.
"Then bring some snacks for Celestia. She likes the flavors from that shop."
"Okay."
Once I sent Hayden to the Morgan mansion, when Cleo came to get him back from me, there'd probably be trouble again.
