Chapter 42

Chapter 42

I followed behind Levi. Although Elliot had long known that Levi and I were married, this was the first time Levi had said it out loud himself.

I didn't understand why Levi would suddenly reveal our relationship to an outsider.

"Mr. Morgan, this way."

The driver led the way ahead, and I stopped in front of my car.

"I'll drive myself back."

Levi stopped in his tracks, then suddenly took a few steps back and came to my side.

"You drive the car back. I'll go with her."

Now I had become "her" again.

Levi held out his hand. "Keys."

I was surprised. In the past, even when he rode in my car, I was almost always the one driving. Today, he wanted to drive himself?

"What are you spacing out for?"

I slowly took the car keys from my bag and clutched them in my palm. "I should drive."

"You want to drink and drive?"

Levi suddenly smiled. I had never seen him smile so easily in front of me before. It was just an ordinary smile, yet it warmed my heart.

I had indeed drunk a little tonight. At the time, it was to calm down, but thinking about it now, it was a bit rash—I forgot I still had to drive.

Levi took the keys from my hand. "Don't let it happen again."

Was he unwilling for me to drink, or unwilling to drive for me?

I sat in the back seat. I didn't want to sit in the passenger seat, close to him. I felt somewhat suffocated.

His words "my wife" still surprised me. I was finding him harder and harder to understand.

I had already brought up divorce, but what was Levi really thinking? Today he called me his wife—would he turn around and deny it again tomorrow?

If he really wanted to go public, he could have used me to clear up the rumors about him and Jessa. He was probably just acting on impulse.

Throughout the drive, Levi didn't speak.

I hid in the back and didn't speak either.

Nola called me. After I hung up, I started texting her.

[Blair, how did you leave? When did you leave?]

I stole a glance at Levi. He was focused on driving.

[When you went to chat with your blind date, Levi suddenly showed up and insisted on taking me home.]

My phone vibrated.

I felt a bit guilty now, after all, talking behind Levi's back with Nola made me feel a little bad.

[Did I miss a good show? If I wasn't afraid people would see that tagalong next to me, I would've at least watched how he picked you up.]

I paused and typed a line: [He didn't come to pick me up. Most likely he was invited tonight too, and just happened to see me.]

Levi wouldn't come specifically to pick me up—after all, he didn't know my whereabouts.

[Okay then, see you tomorrow. I'm heading home too. Finally got rid of him. I'm such a pitiful soul.]

I closed my phone. Levi seemed to glance at me through the rearview mirror.

Maybe it was my imagination. I was dazed.

My stomach felt uncomfortable. Levi opened the car window a bit for me. I closed my eyes to rest for a moment.

I had been busy at the company all day, then I accompanied Nola to this boring birthday party. Although Elliot brought up the financing matter, Levi suddenly popped up—what a mess!

With the night breeze blowing, the alcohol started going to my head. Remembering that I tend to say nonsense when drunk, I pinched my palm to constantly remind myself not to say anything crazy.

When we reached the front door, Levi suddenly slammed on the brakes, and I crashed forward...

"My head..."

Levi turned around and asked me, "Are you okay?"

"I'm fine, I'm fine."

I quickly said I was fine, though it actually hurt a bit. The first time Levi drove for me, and he still had to make me bump my head—was it on purpose? Couldn't he give me one perfect experience?

But having it was better than nothing, better than drink-driving and being on edge.

As soon as we entered, Celestia got down from the sofa and ran toward us.

"Daddy, Mommy, why are you so late?"

Levi picked her up. "Mommy got off work late."

"Did you go pick up Mommy from work?"

"Yeah."

Levi really lied without batting an eye. It was clearly a chance encounter, yet he said he specifically picked me up from work. How had this man changed?

Indigo looked at me with a deep smile. She didn't really think Levi picked me up, did she? Was she happy for me?

"Daddy, put me down. Mommy seems to be wearing a pretty dress."

Celestia had sharp eyes. Even though I was wearing a coat over it, she still noticed.

"Mommy, let me see, is it a beautiful dress?" Celestia said excitedly.

Probably because I don't usually like wearing fancy clothes, it caught Celestia's attention.

I had no choice but to agree and took off my coat.

"Wow, Mommy, you're so beautiful! My mommy is so pretty!"

Was it really that nice? Making my daughter praise me so directly.

"Mrs. Morgan, really beautiful. You should wear these bright clothes." Indigo also praised me.

My face felt hot. If they kept going, I'd probably burst into flames.

"Celestia, we can't stay up late. Let Indigo take you to bed."

"Uh, okay, but I actually wanted to play with you guys a bit longer." Celestia had been waiting for a long time.

If I hadn't been drinking, I would have been willing to spend more time with her. I didn't want Celestia to smell the alcohol on me.

Indigo took Celestia back to the room first.

Levi poured himself a glass of water, then poured one for me, too.

"Sober up."

I picked up the glass and took a sip. "I'm not drunk."

"If I'd been a few minutes later, you would have started losing control again."

He was probably scared by the time I got drunk, completely wasted.

I lowered my head, speechless.

Levi suddenly said something else. "Why dress up so nicely?"

"Huh?"

Was he saying I looked nice?

In all these years, Levi had never commented on my clothing. Could the new style Nola mentioned really have attracted him?

I shook my head and muttered to myself, "That's impossible."

"Already talking to yourself?"

Was Levi being a bit chatty today? I wasn't even talking anymore, yet he kept going.

"It's late, get some rest."

I avoided his gaze. Honestly, this unusual Levi made me uncomfortable.

"You sleep first."

Levi turned and strode out, probably heading to his study again.

I sat alone on the sofa, replaying Levi's words. He said I looked nice, this...

This made me not know whether to laugh or cry.

I suddenly felt a bit regretful. I should have asked Levi in the car what exactly he wanted, what he meant by acting this way.

Did he have feelings for me?

Was he going to publicly acknowledge me as Mrs. Morgan?

Or was he suddenly feeling playful and teasing me?

Everything was unknown, but what about him stepping in to stop Chase from harassing me, and his declaration with Elliot at tonight's party—what did those mean?

Levi, could you just tell me directly and stop torturing me...
