Chapter 25
I went straight to the hospital.
Nola said that Jessa dragged her to the hospital and demanded compensation.
Compensation was minor, but a lawsuit would be serious.
Following the address Nola gave me, I arrived at the hospital's break room. The hospital didn't want them affecting normal operations, so they temporarily put them here.
Levi and I arrived almost at the same time.
We looked at each other.
Nola called out to me, and Jessa called out to Levi.
"Blair, I'm so sorry. I had no choice." When Nola saw me, she was almost crying from anger. Her hair was messy, and there were scratch marks on her cheeks.
I walked over to her. "I have a gel that works really well. It won't leave scars."
Jessa almost threw herself into Levi's arms, but because I was there, she just moved closer to him and said pitifully, "I know she misunderstood me. Last time, Blair did get hurt because of me, but Nola went too far. She hit me..."
Levi and I exchanged a glance. This matter was somewhat related to us.
"Why do you keep pestering everyone?"
I walked up to Jessa. "I've tried my best to keep my distance from you. I've put up with everything, one thing after another, but you going after my best friend—I can't tolerate that."
I made my position clear. I wanted to tell Levi that Jessa couldn't do whatever she wanted anymore. I decided I wouldn't put up with her anymore.
"I just went to talk to her about a collaboration. She hit me, and I'm in the wrong?"
Jessa looked at Levi pitifully. "Levi, you have to stand up for me. I want to take legal action on this."
"If both sides have issues, then both should back down."
Levi's attitude was fair, not favoring Jessa.
To avoid putting me in a difficult position, Nola took the initiative to say, "I can pay your medical bills, but I won't give in on anything else."
"Oh, now you're being generous? So I got beaten for nothing?"
Jessa's hair was even messier, and the injuries on her face were deeper.
"I'm about to start my concert tour. With my face like this, how can I perform? Can a little medical fee solve this?"
She grabbed Levi's arm. "Levi, help me. You invested in the concert too. I won't accept her settlement."
I looked into Levi's eyes. Today, I'd see how he handled this.
I watched him slowly pull his hand away. "Let's not make this ugly situation public. The performance can be postponed. Take care of your injuries."
"I..."
Jessa didn't expect Levi wouldn't stand up for her or punish Nola the way she wanted.
Levi looked at Nola, about to speak, but Nola spoke first.
"I really didn't know she'd call you here. Blair and I are good friends, and I've been holding back for a long time, but out of respect for you, I never said anything."
Nola took a breath. "Blair has been married to you for six years. Don't let her down."
My good friend didn't mention her own injuries at all, but instead spoke up for me. My heart ached. The people who love me worry about me all the time.
Levi said nothing, as if Nola's words left him at a loss.
"Nola is my friend, so today I'm being selfish. Heartstrings Jewelry won't collaborate with you. Don't bring this up again."
I directly crushed Jessa's last hope. Although I knew her desire to work with Heartstrings Jewelry wasn't just to help her friend Xanthe make a comeback, if she pulled any tricks in the process, the consequences would be disastrous.
"I don't want to collaborate anyway."
Jessa fake-cried. "Levi, I'm really innocent. I wanted to make the concert perfect, so I personally went to talk to her, and this is how she treated me."
"She hit me. If it weren't for your sake, I really wouldn't want to forgive her."
Jessa even brought up giving Levi face. The fact that he took time out of his busy schedule to deal with this mess was already giving her plenty of face.
Nola and I exchanged glances, disgusted by Jessa's behavior.
"I'm not holding this against you for Blair's sake. You called her husband here, so I have to give face too, right? If you stop pestering me, I can reluctantly let this go."
Nola wanted to give her a way out, so it wouldn't be too awkward for Levi and me.
Just as everyone fell silent, Celestia called Levi.
"Daddy, you promised to come home for lunch. Why aren't you back yet?"
Levi said gently, "Soon."
"Are you with Mommy? Don't overwork her. You should come home together. Mommy won't listen—she didn't rest and isn't home."
"She's with me."
Levi glanced at me, and my heart skipped a beat.
"Then hurry home for lunch. If you don't come back, I'll be angry..."
"We'll be home soon."
Levi hung up. Jessa was about to say something, but Levi walked toward me.
"Let's go home for lunch."
Seeing this, Nola pushed me toward him. "You two go home. Today's events were kind of ridiculous. I'll go clean myself up first."
Indeed, Nola's disheveled appearance was quite funny.
But my heart ached for her. If it weren't for me, she wouldn't have gotten into a fight with Jessa or gotten hurt.
"Levi, I want to have lunch with you. We made plans yesterday."
Was Jessa really not holding back at all? Levi and I were already heading home for lunch, and she still wanted to get between us.
"Go look in a mirror. They're a family of three enjoying a nice lunch together. Why are you causing trouble?" Nola was really upset.
"Levi..."
I walked ahead, Levi followed behind, Nola went to treat her wounds, leaving Jessa standing there alone.
When turning the corner, I glanced back and saw Jessa stamping her feet in anger.
I remember when she first came back to the country, she was still pretending. Now she was openly showing interest in Levi right in front of me.
Her fight with Nola brought both Levi and me here. If it weren't for Celestia's phone call, we'd probably still be stuck there.
I don't know what's wrong with Jessa. She's becoming less and less straightforward. I remember she used to stop pestering when things didn't work out, but now she won't let go of collaborating with Heartstrings Jewelry.
"If you're working at a friend's company, you don't need to go through the hiring process."
Levi meant I didn't need to resign at all. Nola was my boss, so I could come and go from the company freely.
"Yeah, Nola takes good care of me."
Good thing she didn't know Heartstrings Jewelry was mine. Letting him think I was just a secretary was fine.
Levi closed his eyes to rest. "You can come back to the company anytime."
"No, that's not necessary."
I finally left the Morgan Group. I finally didn't have to see him for so long every day. I didn't want to go back.
"If you two had lunch plans, I can explain to Celestia." I suddenly wanted to test whether Levi wanted to have lunch with Jessa.
"No need."
He declined.
Actually, I'm not that generous either—giving my husband to someone else. It's just that if they wanted to be together, I wanted to slowly bring up the topic of divorce and talk to him about it.
But he wouldn't engage with my topic at all...
