Chapter 176

Chapter 176

We had just gotten home when Ava's father called.

Levi didn't avoid me. He answered the phone right away. I couldn't really understand what they were saying—Levi spoke the foreign language too fast.

After he hung up, he sat down to drink tea.

I was curious and decided to ask him about it.

"Was that Ava's father?"

"Yeah."

The steam from the teacup hit his face, and he instinctively pulled back a bit. The movement was kind of funny, but I held back my laugh.

"What did he say?"

"He said Ava isn't going back to get married. She wants to stay here for the holidays."

"And then?"

"He asked if I could have her stay at our place."

"And then?"

Levi pressed his lips together. "I said no, but I could sign her up for a tour group."

Everything he said was exactly what I wanted to hear. Did she really expect Levi to have her stay at our house? I wonder if this was her father's idea or hers.

"She and that Elliot Sullivan are friends. They're pretty close."

He said it like a statement, but it was really a question. I knew he wanted to get some information about Elliot from me.

But I barely knew anything about Elliot. I'd decided earlier to look into him properly, but once work got busy, I completely forgot about it.

When Heartstrings Jewelry was looking for investment bank financing, he was the one who supported us without hesitation, and it was almost like he came out of nowhere. Before that, WR Company rarely invested in projects in our city.

The first time Elliot met me, he introduced himself as my old classmate. I still haven't figured that out.

That's why I was so angry when Jessa bad-mouthed me. My relationship with him wasn't that close at all. Every time we met, we only talked about work.

"Mrs. Morgan, let me get you some juice."

Indigo's words pulled me back. I'd gotten lost in my memories just now.

I looked up and saw Levi staring straight at me.

"He said they studied abroad together and were classmates."

I repeated Elliot's exact words.

"Want some juice?"

But Levi didn't continue with that topic. Instead, he reminded me that Indigo was still waiting.

"Oh, no thanks. Tea is fine."

Indigo smiled. "Mrs. Morgan, it's a good thing tea doesn't keep you up at night, or you really couldn't drink so much."

"Yeah, actually, if tea keeps you up, it's usually because of the tea leaves. Good tea shouldn't have that effect, unless you're just naturally sensitive to tea."

"Haha, that's me! Last time you gave me a can of good tea, I drank it once and couldn't sleep all night. I finally fell asleep near dawn. Luckily, you were understanding and didn't blame me for missing work."

Both Levi and I laughed. Whenever Indigo told funny stories, she was really infectious.

"During the public holiday, we need to go back to the Morgan mansion for a family dinner. After that, the whole family will probably get together for a meal. There won't be much to do at home, so you can do whatever you want."

Indigo pouted. "At my age, my elders are all gone. I'm alone with no one to worry about."

If it weren't for the car accident that took Indigo's husband and child, she probably wouldn't have been brought to the Morgan mansion by Aiden to work. She used to work at the Morgan Group, but after what happened, she wasn't in the mood to work. Aiden and Rhea decided to have her do some small tasks at the Morgan mansion.

I blinked and looked at Levi. "Didn't you just mention signing up for a tour group? Sign Indigo up too and let her travel for a few days."

"Mrs. Morgan, don't waste money. I'll just stay home. I don't need to go anywhere."

Levi called his assistant and immediately made arrangements for Indigo.

"Is it the luxury kind, like the one you and Ava had that day?" I asked Levi.

After hearing this, Indigo quickly waved her hands. "No, no, no, please don't. I'll stay home and take care of you two. After the holiday, Celestia should be back, too."

"Yes," Levi said.

I watched Levi's expression. His mouth twitched slightly, as if my words made him nervous. But I only said that on purpose because I was nervous too.

When something special becomes ordinary, maybe I can finally become less sensitive about him and Ava hanging out together.

I winked at Indigo. "Someone will be in charge of the specific time and itinerary. They'll contact you, and you just need to follow along."

Indigo's eyes turned red with emotion. "Mr. and Mrs. Morgan, you're both so good to me..."

"It's what you deserve. You've worked hard this year."

Hardworking and uncomplaining housekeepers like Indigo are rare. Plus, I already think of her as family, and she's always been completely devoted to me.

"I'll go prepare dinner then."

"It's still early. Go rest for a bit, or pack your luggage. Who knows, maybe the tour he arranged will leave soon."

Indigo smiled sheepishly. "Then I'll go get ready."

Only the two of us were left in the living room. I watched Indigo's figure disappear, thinking about how unpredictable life is.

I don't know what Levi and I will be like when we reach Indigo's age.

Levi got up to get something, and then his phone rang again. I looked closely and saw it was a video call from Ava.

"You answer it. Put it on speaker," Levi told me.

"Okay."

After I answered, I put the phone on the coffee table with the screen facing the ceiling.

"Levi, come out. Where are you?"

"You won't even let me spend the holiday at your place!"

"And you want to sign me up for a tour group? Do I need you to sign me up?"

"I came all this way to your city for you, and you're playing hide and seek with me. Come out and let me see you."

Ava seemed drunk. Her voice sounded slurred.

I held my breath and didn't make a sound.

Levi stood there frozen, listening to her.

"Levi!"

"Come out! You answered the phone, but won't talk. If you don't want to talk, you could have just not answered. You answered but won't talk—are you messing with me?"

Suddenly, Ava's tone became soft.

She laughed and said, "Levi, signing me up for a tour group is fine too. At least it's something you're doing for me. I'm sure I'll like whatever tour group you pick."

Can liking someone really make you this humble?

"Uh, sorry, that promotion isn't available anymore."

I couldn't help but respond to her.

"Is she right there next to you?"

Levi didn't say anything. He stood there, as if waiting for me to handle it. After I spoke, I saw him smile a little.

"Yeah, he said he wants to focus on work, so he left answering calls to me."

"Who are you kidding? I bet you're just snooping through his phone."

I picked up the phone and pointed it at Levi. "If you don't believe me, ask him. Let him tell you."

When Ava saw Levi, her expression changed completely. "Levi, I'm drunk. Come pick me up. You're the only person I know here."

"Okay."

"Really?"

Ava cried out excitedly. I gave him a confused look. He changed his attitude way too fast.

"The driver will be there soon."

"You're not coming to pick me up yourself?"

Levi shrugged. "I need to stay with my wife."

When he said "wife," my face immediately got hot. This feeling of his emphasizing my position as Mrs. Morgan in front of another woman actually felt pretty good.
