Chapter 164

Chapter 164

I just came out of Levi's office and ran right into Ava.

She was so excited to see me that she gave me a big hug.

I stumbled backward and hit the door with a bang, instinctively reaching to protect my belly.

"Blair, what are you doing here? How have you been lately?"

Ava greeted me enthusiastically. Didn't she realize this hug was becoming my "sweet burden"?

What a coincidence - several people showed up all at once, including Sophia.

She saw me, and her face turned red. She didn't dare greet me, just gave me a look. She was afraid Ava would notice.

"Good, good."

Hearing the noise, Levi opened the door. We both turned around, and everyone else turned to look too.

"What's going on?"

Levi looked at me, and I quickly moved my hand away.

"Nothing."

I told him it was nothing. He should understand that nothing bad happened to the baby.

Ava exclaimed, "Levi, you two know each other?"

Dead silence. So quiet you could hear breathing.

Levi's secretaries, including James, were all watching from the side.

Especially Sophia - she wished she could disappear. She'd been telling me about Ava's activities at the Morgan Group almost every day when she got home.

I smiled, "I worked as a secretary at the company for a while."

"Why didn't you mention it last time? I thought you didn't know him." Ava was clearly a bit unhappy, seeming to suspect I deliberately hid it from her.

"It was very brief. I went to work at another company afterward."

Ava's face lit up, "No worries! You already left for another company, but still came here - that takes courage."

"The company asked me to deliver documents to Mr. Morgan. I have other things to do, so I'll be going."

I didn't look at other people's faces. I didn't know what my former colleagues thought of me now, especially James. We'd just met, and Levi had sent me so many goods - he couldn't help but suspect my identity.

Ava grabbed my hand, "Blair, don't rush off. Just text your boss. Let's have lunch together."

"No thanks, I don't want to interrupt you and Mr. Morgan."

I wasn't the only one gasping now. These former colleagues must have been shocked, too - she actually invited me to eat with them.

"Levi, Blair is my friend. We had dinner together at David's place last time."

I kept my head down, not daring to imagine her introducing our relationship in front of Levi.

"You all remember, right? I shared with you before - she's one of my few good friends here."

Ava said I was one of her few good friends. I was blushing - we met once and we're good friends already...

No one said anything, including Levi.

I'd worked at the Morgan Group for several years. Although my work was simple, everyone knew me. They were just surprised I'd become Ava's good friend.

"I really need to get back to work. I'm leaving now."

If this continued, I was afraid my emotions would get the better of me.

Ava linked her arm with mine, "Next time then. Let's get David and throw a party together."

"Okay."

I just went along with it for now. If she found out I was Mrs. Morgan, there might not be a next time.

Fortunately, Levi didn't say anything. If he had a lapse in judgment and revealed our relationship, I'd be done at the Morgan Group.

Ava let go of me, "Blair, next time for sure, okay? You haven't been to my place yet, and I haven't been to yours..."

"Uh, I'll invite you when I have time."

My scalp tingled. She definitely couldn't come to my place.

I got in the elevator and finally breathed a sigh of relief.

I didn't have time to be angry about Ava and Levi's contact. All I hoped was that Ava wouldn't find out about our relationship, or she'd think I wasn't being honest with her.

I'd just gotten downstairs and was sitting in my car, spacing out, when my phone vibrating startled me.

An unknown number...

"Hello?"

"Blair, this is Sophia. I got your number from Faye."

"What's wrong?"

"Ava's furious. Right after you left, she went into Mr. Morgan's office, and soon she started yelling."

I stuck my head out the car window, looking toward Levi's office.

"What's happening now?"

"It seems Mr. Morgan told her he has a wife. She's demanding to know who his wife is, where she is, stuff like that."

"And then?"

"Mr. Morgan won't answer. We're all eavesdropping. We saw Ava come out, then go back in, still asking loudly."

This was bad. Had Levi stopped caring about his reputation? Ava was making a scene at the company, and he wasn't stopping her, just letting everyone watch the show.

I couldn't imagine how explosive today's gossip at the Morgan Group would be.

"Blair, she came out. She's crying. Mr. Morgan didn't come after her. She said she's going to find out who his wife is, and she also said... she's determined to marry Mr. Morgan."

Ava was really devoted. Even knowing Levi was married, she still wanted to marry him.

"Okay, I got it. Go back to work quickly, don't let anyone find out about us."

"Okay."

I hung up and sat in the car, spacing out.

Why did Levi tell her? I should be happy about it. I should be glad he mentioned Mrs. Morgan's existence in front of Ava.

But I couldn't feel happy. I felt Ava definitely wouldn't let this go. If she found out Levi's wife was me, she definitely wouldn't let me off.

I wasn't afraid of her. I just felt we didn't necessarily have to handle this by burning bridges.

Ava came out angrily, wiping her tears. She was really hurt by Levi.

I didn't know what kind of relationship Levi and she had, especially since she'd been representing Levi at the company these past few days.

She'd said at the company that she liked Levi and wanted to marry him. But now Levi was back and told her Mrs. Morgan existed and their relationship hadn't fallen apart.

The outside world said Mrs. Morgan and Levi had a bad relationship, or maybe weren't even married. Some said they were divorced, and Levi only kept his daughter.

Soon, I saw Levi come out, too.

I quickly started the car. I couldn't let him know I hadn't left yet.

But he seemed to be coming right toward me and blocked my way.

I had to turn off the engine.

The window slowly rolled down. He walked over and pulled out a handful of candy from his pocket, "Indigo said you've had low blood sugar lately. Keep these with you and eat one when you don't feel right."

My heart was pounding. He'd never been this thoughtful before, or rather, never cared about me like this.

"Thank you."

My nose felt sour. I wanted to cry.

He grabbed my hand and put the candy in my palm. The colorful wrappers reflected the sunlight into my heart, warm and bright.

I suddenly thought Ava might still be nearby. I immediately pushed his hand away and closed the window, and the candies scattered around me.

If Ava found out, she'd probably want to kill me. Maybe if I got the chance, I should explain things clearly to her. This feeling was too strange - we hadn't done anything wrong.
