Chapter 142
I looked at the three of them, then sneaked a glance around the store.
I wanted this situation to end quickly, otherwise if the company employees saw us, it would be hard to explain.
I didn't want them to know my identity yet.
"Has Mr. Sullivan become obsessed with parties lately? I'm still working, so I won't go."
Declining again and again, every time I ran into Elliot I refused without hesitation, yet he always had to push a bit more. Especially recently, he'd been trying to ask me out.
Elliot seemed prepared for this - maybe what he said earlier was just being polite.
"In that case, I won't disturb your work."
Michael stayed silent. I could see he was wary of Elliot too - after all, Elliot now controlled his financial lifeline.
I don't know who told Cleo, but just as we were about to split up, she arrived.
When I saw her rushing toward us, I knew there was going to be trouble.
"Quite lively here."
Cleo stared at them, her eyes full of questions.
"Cleo."
I still greeted her politely, trying to deal with the sudden awkward silence.
Jessa put on a smile too. "Cleo, long time no see."
Cleo ignored everyone and just looked at Michael, her eyes still showing feelings for him.
"Hello, Ms. Morgan."
It should have been Mrs. Johnson, but it became Ms. Morgan.
Cleo pursed her lips and responded, "Hello."
The air dropped to freezing point. The few of us standing there looked like statues.
"Let's go."
Michael said this, and I kept my head down looking at my shoes. Right now, silence was best.
Cleo laughed bitterly. "You're doing so well for yourself. Are you that happy after leaving me?"
She'd said such tough words before, but after some time they all disappeared. Cleo couldn't forget him, even though he'd heartlessly let her down.
"Stop it, there's no point."
"You tell me what has a point - finding other women? You won't even look at your child? After all this time, have you thought about how the child feels?"
Michael's face fell. "Did you come here just to blame me?"
Suddenly, Cleo couldn't say a word.
A man's coldness was the best answer. She really did come here for him today - I don't know why exactly, but it was for him.
"Michael, come on man, be a gentleman. Everyone can part on good terms, no need for this."
Elliot stepped in to mediate, trying to ease the tension.
Cleo looked at me. "Why are you still hanging around with them?"
"Me?"
I pointed at my chest, asking back.
If it weren't for Jessa pestering me, I definitely wouldn't breathe the same air as someone like Michael.
"Every time I see you with them. Are you taking their side?"
She was a typical bully - taking her anger at Michael out on me instead.
"Please don't jump to conclusions. I came here to work with my company colleagues. What connection could I possibly have with them?"
Jessa looked like she was enjoying the show, waiting for Cleo to come after me.
Just as she was about to scold me, my phone rang.
"Hello?"
"Is this Blair? I'm Sophia. I got your number from your company. Please talk to Faye - she's at the company fighting with Ava right now..."
One problem after another. I waved at them and left.
"Slow down, what happened?"
Sophia paused. "Faye came to pick me up from work. Just before closing time, she heard Ava saying she likes Mr. Morgan and wants to marry him. She couldn't control herself and confronted her."
"What did she say?"
"She said not just anyone can marry her brother, that Mr. Morgan already has someone in mind, and it's definitely not Ava."
My heart suddenly started racing. That girl Faye must have been standing up for me. Hearing Ava so openly say she likes Levi, she couldn't hold back.
"Sophia, listen to me. Tell her right now that I'm coming to pick you both up. Don't let her fight with Ava anymore."
"I want to say that, but all our colleagues are watching. I haven't had a chance - we can't expose your identity, right?"
Sophia was still being rational. I was just afraid Faye would let something slip. If she got anxious and blurted out that Levi and I are already married, that would be bad.
I was getting anxious. This was all Levi's fault, bringing in this woman. With her expressing her feelings so dramatically, of course Faye couldn't just ignore it.
"Just talk to her. Tell her I'm coming right away. Have her wait for me downstairs at the company. No more fighting."
"Okay, I'll try. It should be fine. Don't worry, I'll come pick us up and she should stop."
I couldn't worry about Cleo anymore. I didn't know if she'd gotten into it with them, but if she took it out on Jessa, those two probably wouldn't side with her anyway.
Things have priorities. I should go stop Faye and Ava from fighting first.
Halfway there, Faye called. She said she'd already finished her battle with Ava, and Ava was so angry she almost fainted.
Hearing her laugh happily on the phone, I didn't dare imagine what state Ava must be in.
She was Levi's friend. If Levi found out about this, would he get angry at Faye?
When I got downstairs at the Morgan Group, Sophia said Ava had already gone home in anger.
The two of them sat in the back, not saying a word.
"Faye, I know you meant well, but you can't be so impulsive next time."
"You don't know how cocky she was, always saying she wants to marry my brother. I told her my brother already has someone he likes."
I was shocked. "Didn't she ask who?"
"She did."
"And then?"
"Then I said I wouldn't tell her that secret, but she should stop going after my brother."
Hearing this, my heart finally settled a bit. As long as she didn't say it was me and Levi, that was good. Otherwise the Morgan Group would have exploded.
Faye said quietly, "Blair, don't worry. I know what I'm doing. I won't tell anyone."
"It's not that I'm scared - there are just too many people at the company. You told Sophia I don't mind, right?"
"Yeah. Faye just has a hot temper. She almost exposed everything. I kept pulling on her arm but couldn't stop her."
"She was acting like that - of course I had to fight back. I only have one sister-in-law. She shouldn't daydream."
I smiled. "Faye, you can't be so sure. What if your brother really falls for this foreign heiress? Then I'd be a joke."
Faye frowned. "Blair, don't joke around. My brother won't change his mind."
"Who can say for sure? Look at Michael - he betrayed Cleo, didn't he? Anyway, from now on you need to stay calm. Don't stick your neck out for this anymore. I know you care about me, but you can't hurt yourself."
Good thing she was Levi's family. If it were anyone else, Ava probably wouldn't have shown any mercy and wouldn't have left work early out of anger.
