Chapter 140
I said a quick goodbye to Nola and the others, then headed home first.
As I left the hotel, warm sunlight fell on my shoulders.
When Jessa saw me, she came over.
"I heard that Levi's company got a new president, and it's a woman."
Sure enough, she knew about any little movement at the Morgan Group. It wasn't surprising she knew these things from being with Elliot, and she'd always been keeping tabs on Levi.
"I heard her family is really powerful. You better work harder, or you might end up training a ready-made husband for someone else."
"It's your loss that you didn't get him."
I really hated when she said this kind of boring stuff. Levi was such an independent person - what was there to "train"?
Jessa laughed lightly. "You're right, you are getting the better deal for now. But if you can't handle it well, I'll try again."
"If Levi wants you now, I'll step aside for you two in a heartbeat."
I smiled at her. I wanted her to understand that I wasn't the one blocking them - Levi had chosen me.
"Blair, don't smile too soon. You'll have your turn to cry. She only needs to put in a little effort to beat you."
Jessa was right. Aside from having a daughter, I seemed to have nothing.
And my Heartstrings Jewelry was nothing compared to her family's assets.
But I wasn't too anxious yet. If the sky fell, there was still "Star" to hold it up.
"Don't worry about me. You should take care of yourself. Having good health is more important than anything. Forget about going after Levi - you might not even be able to take care of yourself."
Jessa's face darkened. "Blair, I'm warning you not to meddle. My health is just fine. Stop bringing up that thing."
My good intentions were thrown back in my face. I was just reminding her to take care of her health, but she thought I was pointing out her miscarriage.
I couldn't be bothered with her and walked toward the parking lot.
"Blair, you better watch out, or someone will steal your home before you know it!"
I didn't take Jessa's warning to heart, but her words still stung and left me unsettled for a long time.
I kept trying to build myself up mentally, telling myself that once I got home and had some afternoon tea and a good nap, everything would be fine.
Not long after I got home, Sophia came back.
Faye had picked her up. She'd mentioned last night that her department was having a gathering today - that female president wanted to socialize and said she was treating the secretarial department to dinner to thank them for the gifts.
"Blair, this is just too much. I said I'd go to the company to check things out, and you said it wasn't necessary. Now look - she's saying she wants to marry my brother."
Faye sat on the sofa, deflated like a balloon that had lost its air.
"It's just her own wishful thinking. She said Mr. Morgan went on this business trip, and they haven't seen each other in years, and she thinks Mr. Morgan is incredibly handsome."
Sophia filled us in.
"Then one colleague was being really nosy and asked if they might have an arranged marriage or something, and Ava said she'd be very willing."
The woman was willing, so what did Levi think?
Everyone thought he was single, so it seemed reasonable for anyone to be with him.
And me, his secret wife, was like a clown, constantly facing challenges from every woman around him...
"I called my brother but he didn't answer. I sent him tons of messages. I'm so angry. I absolutely can't let him let you down."
Faye's tone was frantic, almost losing control.
I sat beside her and tried to calm her down. "If your brother has ideas about this, I can't control him either. Let's not make wild guesses - there's no point."
"Right, right, right. We don't know what Mr. Morgan thinks yet. Maybe it's just her wishful thinking, or maybe she misunderstood."
Sophia explained, trying to keep me from worrying.
"You should have asked her right then if she was in her right mind, thinking she could be with my brother." Faye still wasn't calming down.
She made me laugh. "Do you think it's appropriate for a secretary to say things like that?"
Sophia pouted. "I know Blair is the best, so I told you guys right away. I was just afraid something bad might happen."
"I was shocked by her at the time. No exaggeration, she's really obsessed with Mr. Morgan. She even said she wanted to have a child with him, and the child would definitely be really good-looking."
At the mention of having children, my heartstrings trembled.
I had two babies in my belly right now. Would Levi really arrange a marriage with her and abandon me and the children?
Back then I could force myself to divorce him, but now that we had our babies, it was hard to make that decision. Would I end up having him decide to abandon me but keep the children?
That would be so pitiful...
"Don't listen to her nonsense. If she wants to enter the Morgan family, I'll be the first to disagree, and Aiden will object too. The Morgan family isn't the kind that needs to strengthen itself through arranged marriages."
My heart calmed down a bit. Faye was right - Aiden would definitely be on my side.
"Blair, my brother is definitely handsome, but it's absolutely just her one-sided crush."
Faye still wasn't reassured. She was worried I wouldn't be able to handle it.
"We'll know when your brother gets back."
I rubbed my palms together. "Do you guys want some milk tea?"
They both nodded enthusiastically. "Yes, yes, yes!"
"Indigo makes great milk tea. I'll have her make some right now."
I didn't want everyone dwelling on this gloom. Once Levi came back, everything would naturally have an answer. We couldn't let ourselves fall into chaos just because of Ava's bold confession.
I was really grateful to Sophia. If she hadn't brought this news, I wouldn't have known that Ava was working at the Morgan Group, or about her feelings for Levi.
Indigo walked over with a smile. "I heard you guys talking about wanting milk tea. Today I'll let you two see my skills."
"Indigo, you're basically talented at everything."
Faye gave her a thumbs up. She always got excited about good food.
"I don't dare claim that. Mrs. Morgan provided me with the information for this milk tea, and I learned from it."
"Well, some people still couldn't learn it. You're still amazing."
Indigo's face turned red from the praise. "Just wait, it'll be ready soon."
I kicked off my high heels and leaned back lazily.
"Blair, wasn't Nola super beautiful today? Did they say you were beautiful? You should dress up like this to give my brother a sense of crisis too."
When I didn't dress up, Levi already misunderstood me. If I were actually pursued by someone else, he'd probably get jealous for no reason again. Plus, he hadn't sent a single message - I didn't even know if he was still angry.
"Blair is family-oriented and faithful. Otherwise, with her beauty, what man wouldn't like her? Even I, as a woman, think Blair is gorgeous."
Sophia expressed her fondness for me. Faye had said similar things before.
"Sigh, women fall deeply so easily. Blair gave my brother the best years of her youth. If he dares betray her, I'll definitely come out swinging."
"You're so aggressive all the time, boys will be scared away when they see you." I joked with her.
Faye said proudly, "That's perfect - they won't bother me. Look at you married people, so many problems. I want to stay single forever and be free forever."
