Chapter 115

Chapter 115

It was weekend again. It was very windy today, so Celestia and I were flying a kite in the yard.

Just as we were having fun, the kite string got caught in a tree, and the kite landed on a branch. I had to call the security guard over to help.

I held the ladder for him, though it wasn't really necessary. I was just worried he might fall.

"Mrs. Morgan, let me go check on the pot on the stove, make sure it doesn't overcook."

Indigo glanced up at the tree - the kite was almost down.

"Okay, go ahead."

My eyelid kept twitching. I didn't know whether it was from lack of sleep or a real bad omen.

"Mrs. Morgan, the kite's a bit damaged, not sure if it can still be used." The security guard said as he climbed down the ladder, holding the broken kite.

"It's fine, let's take it down and have a look first."

I glanced toward the garden, just one glance, and I saw Chase talking to Celestia.

"Oh no..."

I ran toward them. The security guard called out behind me, "Mrs. Morgan, don't you want the kite?"

At that moment, I had no mind for the kite. What was Chase doing at my house? Had he snuck in during that brief moment?

Had he been lurking outside my house, planning this?

"Celestia, I'm your grandfather. Grandpa brought you some candied hawthorn - it's really sweet. Try some. Your mom loved it when she was little."

"You're not my grandpa. I don't take things from strangers."

Celestia backed away, and just as she was about to turn and run, he grabbed her arm.

"Don't grab my arm, I'm hurt there, or my dad will beat you up." Celestia struggled.

Hearing that Levi would deal with him, he let go. I breathed a slight sigh of relief - I was almost there.

"Celestia, I really am your grandfather, your mom's dad. We had some misunderstandings before, but our relationship can't be changed."

"Go talk to my mom. I don't know you."

Celestia's response made me proud - she wouldn't be easily fooled by him.

"Your mom is too stubborn. I'm sick and need help. Would you be willing to help me?" Chase tried to lead her on.

"I can't help you, I'm too little."

Celestia kept backing away, looking around. When she caught my eye, she suddenly ran toward me.

"Mommy, mommy, there's a weird man here..."

I pulled Celestia into my arms. Indigo heard the commotion and ran out too.

"Mrs. Morgan, is everything okay?"

"It's fine."

Chase stared at me. "It's been two days. Have you changed your mind?"

"No."

I handed Celestia to Indigo, who took the child away. Only then did I relax.

"There were a lot of people that day, and I was upset by that bastard Jessa, so I had a bad attitude with you." Chase's tone softened. "I really have repented. I went to sweep your mother's grave."

"You probably went to beg her to keep you from dying."

I smiled. "But you used the wrong method. My mom is gone. She doesn't have the ability to help you anymore."

"But there's still you. She left you for me."

"Me?" I pointed at my chest.

"Yes, you're my treasure. I was blinded before, but now I know the truth. I wronged you both."

The person in front of me seemed incredibly ironic. To save his life, he was putting on such a ridiculous act.

"You're overthinking it. I have nothing to do with you. Don't mention my mother either - it won't work. If she were alive now, she'd want you dead as soon as possible."

I said words that sounded cruel, but compared to what he did to us, this was nothing.

"I know you hate me, but I'm already a sick man. Can't you help me for the sake of our blood relationship?"

"I've made myself very clear. Stop harassing me, or Arabella's fate will be yours."

Chase glared. "If you help me, I'll give you everything I have."

"I don't want it."

I smiled bitterly. "Did you come today to target my daughter? Don't you use your brain? Celestia is Levi's child - she won't be a match for you."

"You think just because she might carry my blood, she's related to you? I'm warning you, even if there's a chance she could be a match, I would never allow it."

Chase looked guilty. "I just brought the child some candied hawthorn. I bought several sticks - you should try some too."

"Put away your fake face. Your trick of buying people's hearts only worked on one person in this lifetime - my foolish mother."

"Can't you just think of it as doing a good deed?"

I was amused by him. He wanted me to save him and call it doing a good deed?

"Then you do a good deed first - don't have any ideas about my daughter, or I'll fight you to the death."

Fortunately, I discovered this in time today and didn't let him hurt Celestia. If anything happened, I definitely wouldn't let him off.

"Your mother was so kind, I didn't expect you to be so cruel."

"Don't try to guilt-trip me. My compassion died long ago, and even if I had any, it definitely wouldn't be for you."

I had long been completely disappointed in him. I even hated him.

Chase started coughing in anger. If it were any random stranger, I might feel concerned, but if he died in front of me right now, I'd just be a bit scared at most.

When I needed a father, he personally killed all the feelings a girl had for her dad. When I cried and begged him to drive Jessa and her mother away, the person he decided to abandon was me.

"There's no room for discussion?"

"Don't even think about it."

I took a breath. "I'm warning you for the last time - don't have any ideas about my daughter, or I'll send you to keep Arabella company."

"Don't mention that bitch to me. I was deceived by her. All these years, going to prison is what she deserves."

"You don't need to badmouth her to please me either. I don't care about her at all. Your family affairs have nothing to do with me."

Chase emphasized, "I'm already divorcing her. We'll do the paperwork when she gets out."

"Then you'd better take good care of yourself. Who knows if you'll even make it that long."

"You!"

I brushed the dust off myself. "Just give up. I won't do the matching test. Instead of wasting time pestering me, you should spend your time finding a suitable match."

"Of course I'll find one. You'll get what's coming to you for refusing to save me."

He was cursing me again, but I had a clear conscience and wasn't afraid at all.

"Mr. Morgan, you're back."

The security guard raised his voice to greet Levi when he saw him. He had wanted to help several times but was afraid of causing trouble for me by overstepping.

Levi was carrying several packages - probably gifts for Celestia.

"Levi, you're finally back. Look at Blair, she won't even offer me tea. Come, let's have a chat." Chase was bowing and scraping, without any dignity of a father-in-law.

If I could cast spells, he'd be the first one I'd make disappear.
