Chapter 100 Agreement to Go Abroad

Chapter 100 Agreement to Go Abroad

The instant the emergency lights flickered on, every short baton in the black-clad men's hands spat a burst of sparks.

It was the electromagnetic disruptor she had planted in advance.

The man in the floral shirt roared and lunged.

Sophia slipped sideways, driving her elbow hard into his ribs. He grunted and collapsed, the baton slipping from his grip. She caught it mid-fall and turned, planting herself between Henry and the attackers.

Oscar had never imagined Sophia could fight like this. He stumbled back, searching for cover, but Henry seized him by the tie and yanked him forward.

Henry's eyes were cold steel.

"My father kept you in the Caldwell Corporation out of respect for your father's name," he said. "And you turned this place into your weapon for revenge."

"Revenge?" Oscar laughed, the sound breaking into something close to a sob. "When they dumped my father into the river, where was your respect then? The Black Ice Project has killed more people than you can count, and the Caldwell family is drenched in blood — so why should I be the only one to bear it?"

He shoved Henry away, snatched a fruit knife from the table, and drove toward Sophia.

Susan lunged for the tablet in Sophia's hand, but Sophia's boot caught her in the stomach, folding her to the floor.

The knife came within inches of Sophia's chest before Henry stepped in front of her. The blade tore through his sleeve and into his arm. Blood bloomed across the white fabric.

"Enough!" Henry's voice hit the room like a gunshot. "The Black Ice Project's debts will be settled, but not like this."

Sirens wailed outside, growing louder. Oscar's face drained of color. His men had sworn there would be no police patrol tonight.

Sophia's mouth curved in a thin smile. "Forgot to mention—I put a tracker in your phone. The moment you called your people, the police were already on their way."

Oscar sagged into a chair, the knife clattering to the floor. He looked at Henry's bleeding arm, then at the officers flooding through the door, and seemed to deflate completely.

Susan writhed on the floor, gasping. "Oscar forced me! I didn't know anything!"

No one listened.

Henry pressed a hand to his arm and stepped to Sophia's side. She was already checking the wound, her brow furrowed.

"I'm fine," he said with a faint smile. "It's nothing."

"Nothing? You're bleeding," she shot back, but she kept her voice steady as she pressed down on the wound. "You need a tetanus shot."

The meeting room was a wreck. Officers were hauling Oscar and Susan toward the door.

As they passed, Oscar stopped and looked at Henry. "You think this is over? The Midnight Accord Organization won't let you walk away."

Henry didn't answer. He just tightened his grip on Sophia's hand.

Sunlight spilled through the window, catching the curve of their joined fingers.

Thomas stood frozen in the corner. Henry didn't spare him a glance.

When the chaos settled, Henry leaned toward Sophia. "How about we check the factory on the outskirts?"

"Your arm—"

"It's fine. Just a bandage," he insisted.

She knew he didn't want to linger and talk to Thomas, so she nodded.

The car rolled out of the city. Rain tapered off. At the wheel, Henry's profile was softened by the glow of the streetlamps.

"I've always admired you," he said quietly, after a pause. "Your resilience, your mind, your composure... everything."

Sophia's pulse skipped. She turned toward the window, watching the trees blur past. "Why are you telling me this now?"

"Because I want you to know. This engagement—maybe it started as a convenience. But now, I want it to be real."

She didn't answer, but the corners of her mouth lifted.

The rest of the drive was quiet, just the hum of the engine and their breathing.

The factory gate was rusted, groaning as it swung open. Sophia traced the wall with her fingers, following the map in her mind, until she found a loose brick. She pushed it aside, revealing a hidden compartment with a dust-covered notebook.

"What is this..."

She flipped through it. The handwriting was jagged, filled with strange place names and numbers.

On the last page, she froze. "These coordinates... they're not in the country."

Henry leaned in, frowning. "Silvania's port."

"So we've been looking in the wrong place," she murmured.

He smiled, ruffling her hair. "Then we'll go to Silvania after the engagement. Call it a honeymoon. No one will suspect."

She hesitated, then nodded.

The engagement party had been delayed a week due to the Caldwell Corporation's shareholder chaos. When the day came, the Caldwell Mansion was dressed to perfection. A red carpet stretched from the carved front doors to the garden.

Megan, in a dark red gown, directed the staff with rare cheer. "Careful with those flowers—this is Henry's big day!"

From the second-floor balcony, Sophia watched the bustle below, the notebook still in her hand.

Henry joined her, offering a glass of champagne. "What's on your mind?"

"Silvania's port," she said after a sip. "What if the warehouse in the notes is the Black Ice Project's final stop?"

"Could be," Henry said. "But don't worry. Once the party's over, we leave. Edward's already making arrangements."

The thought of traveling alone with Henry brought an unexpected warmth to her chest.

Just then, the butler hurried over. "Mr. Caldwell, Miss Bennett, the police are here. They say it's urgent."

They exchanged a glance, both sensing the same unease.

Downstairs, two officers stood in the foyer. "Mr. Caldwell, Miss Bennett, we found this at Oscar's residence."

One handed over an evidence bag containing a small USB drive.

Sophia recognized it instantly—it was the backup of Oscar's crimes she had made.

"We cracked it," the officer said. "Inside were files on the Black Ice Project. There's mention of someone codenamed Odin's Eye. Seems he was a key figure in the project."
