Chapter 121: Operation Table
Chapter 121: Operation Table
Warning: Offensive language and terrible memories.
“No, Stacy, listen,” a voice sounded somewhere in the space. She jerked and looked around. The walls seemed to be really high; high enough it looked like an old church with centuries of history. “Stacy..” the voice called again and it echoed.
The man in front of her remained unmoving. It was Chad but he felt like a stranger – more like an empty shell. An immense loneliness hit her. She was alone in a.. she looked around. In a really huge Victorian style building with a shell of a man who used to be really close with her.
An unidentifiable voice was calling out to her but she couldn’t find the source of it. It was all too overwhelming and lonely. The intensity of it all pressed on her, causing her to bend and squat down in defeat. It felt as if there was a huge hole in her heart. It felt numb, aching, heavy, empty, pain, all in the same time.
Slowly, she closed her eyes and let the darkness seep into her, to envelope her fully.
Nelly steeled herself, making sure that she remained calm no matter what. Her hands moved steadily and quickly despite the vulnerability she felt in her heart. “Stacy,” she mumbled for the umpteenth time, “hang in there. Please.”
Stacy hugged her head. It was throbbing and everything around seemed to be spinning. Voices were echoing around her. Everything hit all at once.
‘You! There’s a special place for you in hell! You and your whole bloodline!’
‘What do we do with her?’
‘You’re just the daughter of that bitch. Who do you think you are?’
‘Stacy, go! Just go! Don’t ever come back.’
‘If there is another life, let’s meet again under better circumstances.’
‘Once we escape, everything will be fine.’
‘You don’t understand, do you?’
‘Bitch!’ Her frown deepened as she jerked in surprise. A spot on her head throbbed, as if someone just hit her with something hard. Numbness spread through and she felt light-headed, causing her to fall on the floor. The world around her spun really fast. Someone pressed on her. Not someone. A lot of people.
She shut her eyes tightly. “No..” a tear fell from her eyes. “Please, no..”
She tried to struggle but strength left her body. A few people were holding her down.
‘Eat this!’ ‘You stupid bitch!’ ‘Someone tugged at her hair, sending a jolt of pain on her scalp, followed by waves of numbness.
Someone pressed on her from the back. She could feel him on her bare fold. “No..” she strained, summoning all of her energy but to no avail. The hands holding her down wouldn’t bulge. Laughter echoed in the space, adding to her misery.
The voices around her faded in and out. Loud applause echoed in the space. The person was suddenly sitting on her, putting all their weight on her body.
‘She’s dead.’ There was a loud banging of the bell. ‘And the winner is..’
‘DIE!! Just die!’ A loud voice bombarded as someone grabbed her by the throat and squeezed hard. ‘Why don’t you just die!!’
She gasped for breath, her whole body aching and numb. ‘I’m really going to die,’ she thought. Slowly, her head cleared. ‘It’s all because of you! Die!!’ The voice was still at it. Her heart throbbed. She knew who it was now that her head slowly cleared and the voice became clearer. ‘It’s all because of you,’ Mariana’s voice was full of sadness and hatred as she tightened her hands around her throat.
A tear rolled from her eyes. ‘I don’t need your sympathy,’ Mariana hissed, ‘nobody loves you.’ Stacy forced her parted lips into whatever near to a smile despite all her pain. Both her fists loosened and she allowed all her strength to drain from her body.
“Nelly! The numbers are dropping!” Jack screamed from the side. He grabbed the device she handed him before the operation. “They are dropping!” He couldn’t stop the panic in his voice. Nelly’s frown deepened and her brows furrowed in concentration. “Why? What’s the source?” She mumbled, “why..” She could also feel the panic rising in her. “Stay with me, Stacy. Stay with me,” she continued chanting it as if it was the only thing keeping her from losing her sanity. Her mind worked overtime to handle the situation.
Bang! Someone pushed in through the door. “Not now! Didn’t I say that nobody is allowed to enter?” Nelly barked as she felt a wave of agitation rise in her. She was on the verge of losing it and the interruption was all it took. If she wasn’t in an operation, she might start throwing things at the intruder.
Jack quickly moved to stop the new-comer. “Stacy! Is she alright? I heard screaming. Is she going to be okay? What is happening?” Will was like an unstoppable bull, charging towards the bed. Jack was struggling to hold him down.
“Calm down, Will. We are saving her. Calm down!” Jack tried but Will was not having it. He kept pushing and struggling. “James! James!” Jack called the man who was supposed to guard the door but there was no reply. He lost his grip and Will managed to run past him before he grabbed at his shirt and pulled him back. “Goddammit! Calm down!” Jack hissed under his breath.
The commotion was too distracting but Nelly kept her hands steady as she stitched. Once she completed the cycle, she threw whatever she had on the table. It landed with a loud thud as she stood and turned to face them.
“WHERE DO YOU THINK THIS IS? DO YOU KNOW HOW DANGEROUS THAT WAS?” Her outburst caused the two men to freeze in their movements.
“You,” her voice was really low as she pointed a finger at Will. “If you are here to cause trouble, get out now.” Her calm tone hid the storm brewing underneath.
“I can stay and help,” Will blurted out quickly but he was obviously not calm.
“Get out,” Nelly repeated. Jack tugged at Will and tried to lead him to the door.
“But..” Will tried to protest. “OUT!! OUT NOW!!” Nelly lost it. Her voice boomed in the room. James and another two men rushed in to drag Will out.
Immediately, she turned to the patient in front of her. Jack approached carefully.
“We had five minutes. Now we’re left with three,” Nelly said calmly. “Take that,” she nudged at the direction of the table, “help me disinfect it.”
