Chapter 110: Similar Temper
Chapter 110: Similar Temper
The knob fell with a cling and rolled to the side. Stacy pushed the door open but something behind it prevented the door from opening fully. Slowly, she inched into the room and checked behind the door.
Thud! A man fell to the ground. Her eyes widened as she looked at him. He was one of the gang members. She’s never had any interactions with him. The man was unconscious. Blood stains were seen at the side of his face, pointing to potential head injury. She squatted down to put a finger to his nose.
She let out a breath she had been holding. He’s gone. Otherwise, Nelly might insist on staying there to treat him. Either that, or she had been taken.
“Where are you?” She whispered. She couldn’t help feeling uneasy. Nelly was far from being a fighter, making her the most vulnerable person in the whole clubhouse.
Her gaze fell on the bed. She was only here hours ago, talking and laughing with Nelly. Now, she was nowhere to be found and it was almost impossible to find a person in the chaos. One might be there, either alive or dead, or had run away.
‘Think,’ she told herself, ‘what would Nelly do in this situation?’
She sucked in a breath as she remembered crucial information. She knew where Nelly was. There’s no doubt. If she’s there, then it would be a disaster.
Stacy rushed out of the room, sprinting as fast as she could. ‘They were here for Cecilia,’ Zalen’s voice replayed in her mind. The enemies were there. The thought of it caused her to increase her speed. ‘Hang in there!’
As she neared the room, she saw Chad coming from the other side. It seemed that their destination was the same after all. He had used the shortest path, pushed through the sea of men to reach the room while she detoured to Nelly’s room, taking the longer way but they eventually reached at the same time.
The door was open. They stopped short at the entrance. Nelly was standing between Cecilia and a man. In her hand was a gun, pointed at the man. Fear showed in her eyes and her shaking hand tightened on the gun. “Don’t come any nearer,” she warned. Even her voice was shaking. Tears were apparent on her cheek, showing that she had cried. The man was obstructed by the door.
Slowly, they pushed the door open to reveal the man standing opposite Nelly.
He was smirking at Nelly before turning over to look at the newcomers. The knife in his hand gleamed dangerously, pointed at Nelly.
“George,” Chad acknowledged, “you are still alive.” He inched closer into the room. George tilted his head upwards arrogantly as he pulled out a gun with his other hand. It pointed directly at Chad. “I reserved this shot for you,” his smile widened, showing rows of yellow teeth. “Where’s Gus?” Chad remained calm as he asked.
“You’ll see him soon,” George said and immediately fired. Chad tried to dodge and at the same time, a knife came flying. It lodged into George’s left arm holding the gun while the bullet hit Chad’s arm. The gun in his hand fell to the floor.
In a swift motion, Stacy rushed forward for it. BANG! BANG! George took two shots to his feet, causing him to fall to the floor on his knee. “An arm for an arm,” Stacy said coldly, “the feet are interests.”
Chad straightened himself. “Let me ask again. Where’s Gus?”
“Fuck off,” George spat, unwilling to show weakness even in the worst situation. Stacy twisted the knife in his arm, causing him to groan before she pulled it out. “You will answer the question properly,” she commanded. Nelly’s eyes widened as she took two steps back instinctively. Her legs gave up and she fell to the floor.
Chad watched quietly. She’s really pissed. The calm tone she chose hid the storm brewing underneath. The knife went to his throat. “Talk. Are you mute?” She pushed but he held on to his pride. “ANSWER HIM!” Her sudden outburst caused Nelly to jump but the man remained unmoving.
“Who are you to command me, little girl?” George sneered. “ARGHHH!” His scream pierced through the air. Nelly turned away with her eyes shut. Even Chad winced.
“I’ll look around,” Chad told Stacy, “I’ll leave him to you.”
Her eyes drifted to the wound on his arm just for a second before nodding.
“You don’t have to. He’s not here,” a voice stopped them mid-action. Hank appeared at the door. His eyes zeroed in at the knife covered with blood in her hand before looking at her poker face. “Where have you been, old man?” Stacy greeted nonchalantly. Hank chuckled. “To get help,” he said, “the situation is under control now.” Chad eyed him suspiciously before relaxing a little.
“George,” Hank’s voice was ice cold as he addressed the man kneeling on the floor. George was a bloody mess. He tilted his head to look at Hank despite his injuries.
“So long, Hank,” he sneered, “I see you’ve gone soft.” Hank placed his hands in his pockets casually. “I’m retired,” he said, “I’ll leave you in the hands of my daughter.”
His eyes drifted to the knife in Stacy’s hand. George’s eyes widened dramatically before scoffing. “She got her temper from you.” Hank tried hard to not smile but the corners of his lips tilted up against his will.
Zalen rushed in with a few men. When he saw Chad, he reported, “the situation is contained for now. Gus is not found.” Chad nodded. “What should we do with him?” He asked Hank while nodding at George. The man shrugged. “Do whatever you want. I’m not involved in this.”
“You played a big role in stopping the fight. He’s once under you. I think it’s only fair you decide on this,” Chad insisted. Hank's eyes fell on the wound on his arm.
Stacy strutted over. “Don’t try to dodge responsibility, old man,” she said as she held on to Chad’s good arm. “We’ll be trusting you with this matter, then!” Immediately, she pulled Chad out of the room.
She led him down the stairs, walking past injured and unconscious men. “Where are we going?” He asked when she wasn’t saying anything.
A few men came up at them. “What should we do with the men Gus sent?” Chad was just turning to face them when Stacy shot him a glare. “Ask Zalen,” she said, “he’s upstairs.” The men stood rooted on their spots, seemingly unsure of what to do. They directed confused expressions at Chad.
Chad nodded, agreeing to Stacy’s words. Only then did they go upstairs.
Stacy continued leading him. “Stacy, I have to..”
“Shut up.”
