Chapter 7
As the twin doors closed subtly behind me, I heard the parting roar of thunder in the skies signaling my Mate should have been long gone by now. The spell diminished and instantly, everything reverted back to normal. Damian crashed to the ground, Eren and Vera frowned. Their eyes wavering between Damian who grunted as he arose.
“What happened right now?" Eren asked as he peered at me suspiciously.
I smirked.
“Something happened here, Green. One moment you were about to kill the Lycan and in a glimpse, you're there and now he fell to the floor,” he stated sternly. "I know you're fast, but not fast enough to escape my eyes."
This time, they all had their gaze on me waiting for me to drop the bombshell. The last thing I would want to do is tell them my mate had visited. Zeus, a man they so much hate, especially the Lycan.
“You have a shallow knowledge about me, Eren." I finally responded. "I simply spared his life out of my kind heart."
Damian growled, his eyes flashing a threatening shade of golden yellow, but Eren held him back. His gaze was still on me, telling me he wasn't buying my lie.
“Three days," I pronounced. "After this time, I promise I'll hunt your lands without mercy."
I added with a stern face as I studied each of their petrified expression.
“This meeting is over."
I declared before exiting the chambers. I walked briskly past the first chambers thinking about only one thing. Zeus. Even as hard as I tried to, I couldn't get his picture out of my mind.
“Green!" Martha's pitch jolted me back to reality. My pace halted and only then did I realize I was outside with Damian's guards, eyeing me in fear.
“What happened in there, you look," she paused as she approached me studying my countenance. "You look angry and worried,” she whispered.
I looked into her blue eyes, clear as the ocean and endearing me to spill my worries out. But I couldn't. I didn't know how to process it all, I didn't know how to tell my best friend I found my mate and that I was slowly slipping into the chains of attraction.
“It's nothing. Call Lilith, I want to see her tomorrow." I mumbled before trailing into the vehicle. She joined me too but surprisingly went mute. The Martha I knew wasn't one to buy that kind of excuse, but she also wasn't one to keep quiet whenever I was like this.
I heaved a sigh as our vehicle began its solemn stride. I leaned against my window with my eyes closed. I traveled to that moment again, that beautiful pause in time where I met him. His beautiful Hazel eyes that gleamed with nothing but love and admiration. The heat burning within me as we closed our distance apart, feeling his warm breath grazing against my cheeks. How I had ran my finger across his soft lips. I might have pretended to have hated him but deep down, I loved it. I loved the way I teased him; I loved the way he smiled. So bright and one that inspired hope.
My palms curled in a fist and my eyes opened abruptly.
“Stop the car," I ordered. Martha stared at me, but I cared less. I alighted from the vehicle only to be greeted by the warmth of the sun and the scent of my garden from afar. I frowned as I wondered how long I must have been thinking about Zeus that I was oblivious we were in my Clan.
“You can go," Martha ordered the Chauffer before joining my side. We both stood on the tarred roads greeted by passersby.
She took my left hand with an endearing smile on her face.
“Let's go for a stroll."
She said softly and I obliged like a child. We headed east in silence till we arrived the valleys. One of the beautiful places in City of Marr.
A smile instantly crept to my face as we strolled to the edge. It made me wonder, when last I'd visited this place. We sat on a stone crafted almost like a bench while I enjoyed the view of the river. In a strange way, my worries faded. I was finally at peace.
“I met my mate." I mumbled. I glanced at the shocked expression bestowed on her face, something I had expected.
“Zeus,” I said in a whisper.
“Zeus? The same Zeus we all know?! That Assassin Werewolf,” she pitched in surprise while I nodded.
“How did you two even meet?"
I gulped down my saliva as those memories came flushing again.
“We met at the Lycan's abode, during the meeting. I was in the process of killing Damian when he showed up."
“He showed up and none of us didn't know?"
“Well, he used a time dampening spell."
“That spell is pretty powerful, one you're not immune to. So how come you weren't affected?" She asked with a frown. I frowned too; I hadn't really given that aspect a thought. I might be immune to spells but not one so powerful as Zeus Lightening spell.
“I don't know but he was immune to my compulsion too. It's like our powers were both useless against each other."
I stared at her surprised to see a smile on her face. She held my palm, gently stroking it.
“But that's not why you're angry and worried right?" She said more of an assertion than a question.
I nodded.
“You were right all along Martha. All these years I've been deceiving myself. I met him and I was," I pursed my lips while her grip tightened gently. "I was attracted to him instantly; I felt this strong bond between us. I still remember his smile; I can still pick his scent around me." I sighed whilst forcing myself not to blush.
“You're angry because you couldn't bring yourself to kill him or even think of doing that. And you're worried because, you fear you might be falling in love,” she said softly, and I just couldn't help but lean my head upon her shoulders. She patted my hair softly and I sealed my eyes. All I could see was Zeus. I could have curled my palms into a fist, but Martha's touch buffered that feeling.
“I love him, and I hate him too. I don't want him and at the same time I want him," I said. "I'm confused Martha, why is it at a time like this that both the moon goddess and Vampire goddess decided to punish me."
“You never can tell Green, he might be a blessing to you,” she whispered.
“Men are a curse." I gritted my teeth. "There's a likely possibility we're going to war in three days’ time but look now, how am I supposed to concentrate.
When I close my eyes, all I see his him and when I open them, all I can think about is him!" I sighed.
She chuckled.
“It's the work of the mate bond Green. You'll have to get used to it cause the truth is, you can never overcome it. No one has."
I heaved another sigh.
“So, what's going to happen to you two now?"
“I asked him to come tomorrow."
“You're planning something devilish right?" She toned worriedly.
“He accepted me, but I will never do same." I opened my eyes.
“What are you going to do him then?"
A sinister smile crept to my lips.
“Make him go through hell till he finally gives up on a monster like me."
She stopped patting my hair.
“He accepted you immediately, he probably didn't think of you as a monster, he probably doesn't fear you." She pursed her lips.
“What if you fail? What if in the latter end, you end up succumbing to love?"
I raised my head to stare at her. Her expression alone was enough to pass how serious she meant her words. And in a strange way, I lost my confidence. I wasn't so sure I wouldn't fall.
My teeth gnashed against each other, and my other palm curled into a fist.
“I won't!"
