Chapter 34

ELIGOR.

Every time I see her smiling and happy, I find myself inexplicably delighted as well. And when I see her crying and sad, a part of my heart wants to do everything to make her happy.

Things I never used to do. Things that aren't normal for an incubus like me.

Why? Why am I affected by a mortal I met? Why am I bothered by problems that have nothing to do with me?

Why do I feel hurt when I see her in pain? Angry when someone hurts her and joyful when she's happy?

This isn't normal. Is it because I'm a cambion? Because I'm half-human and half-incubus, is that why I can feel the signs of a mortal?

Is it possible that I have emotions? Or perhaps a different kind of emotion, like love?

But how? And why am I only realizing this now?

"Tsk, maybe I've known for a long time but just couldn't admit it," I muttered, scratching my head.

I'm now backstage after meddling in Katelyn's problems. I don't even realize what I'm saying or doing when it comes to that woman.

Words that could get me into trouble as an incubus just come out of my mouth on their own.

"Hey, what did you say on stage earlier?" I turned to Gadreel, who was giving me a nasty look as if he wanted to punch me. He couldn't do it because there were many people watching us.

I smirked. It's really fun to tease this guy. Maybe that's why I haven't killed him yet because I still want to play with him and make him pay for all his mischief.

"What about it?" I asked, and he glanced at me from the side before looking at me again.

"Is it true? Is Kate your fiancée?" he asked, and one side of my lips curved up. I put my hands in my pockets and nodded.

"Yep," I replied curtly, which annoyed him even more. It was obvious that he couldn't believe what he was hearing.

"Bullshit, what man would want to see his future wife with another guy?" he whispered. Luckily, the crowd was focused on the performance on stage. He didn't care about the two backstage men about to fight, hahaha.

"Ah, actually, we just discussed it earlier. After you made her cry," Gadreel chuckled and looked at me arrogantly, clearly wanting to brag that he was the first one to break up with Kate.

"So, you chose a woman who's just being passed around by other men? I thought you're not that low," he retorted, raising one of my eyebrows. I laughed and covered my mouth, looking at him.

"Hahaha, it's funny how a man who broke up because he wasn't the first one is using the word 'passed around,' do you want to know the truth?" I asked him, leaning in and peering into his face.

"I was the one who took her first. Remember when we went to the beach? She was drunk then, and as they say, when there's alcohol, there's intent, hahaha," I teased him, and he suddenly punched the wall, catching the attention of the other teachers who were with us.

"Sorry if I beat you to it. It's probably better that I got her instead of you, who has already had many others," I replied, walking away and waving at him.

"Bye, enjoy!"

I saw his teeth gritting in anger, and he couldn't hide the redness on his face from anger.

That's not enough. He needs to suffer and be annoyed by everything he did to Kate and the other women he fooled.

I walked with a smile toward the crowd and immediately spotted Kate and Aimee.

I approached them and stood beside them. "Hi, my fiancée," I greeted, and almost all of my students were watching us, teasing smiles on their faces.

"Yiieee! Sir Cross, we didn't know that Ms. Hernandez was the one making you smile like that," one of my students teased, and I pressed my index finger to my lips.

"Sssshh— Kate might think I'm head over heels for her," I replied, glancing at Kate and winking.

I saw Aimee playfully hitting Kate, just like my other students, because she was overwhelmed with excitement. While Kate looked at me with disdain, she could almost kick me in the face.

"Ha-haha, you're crazy, haha, let's talk first," Kate replied, forcing a smile on her face. I really felt like she wanted to strangle me.

"Roger that, as you said," I replied, and our students laughed along with Aimee.

Kate pulled me while holding my hand, and I smiled, intertwining my fingers with hers.

"Hey!" She was surprised by what I did and gave me a stern look, but I just laughed at her and held her hand.

"Just for sweetness," I replied, and she shook her head while I could clearly see her ears turning red.

It's easy to catch Kate when she's embarrassed or feeling giddy; she either becomes violent or her ears turn red.

She led me to the back of the cabin, away from the event venue, just the two of us here and no one else.

"What are you doing? You're just ruining your image in front of your students because of me," she replied, and I furrowed my brow. What could she possibly think would be the reason for that? How could I be ruined in front of my students?

"What? What's going to be ruined?" I asked her, and she sighed deeply, then looked away from me.

"Well, we're not really getting married, so what happens when your teasing ends? What will they think?" she answered, and I forgot about that aspect. It wasn't on my mind because I could easily erase people's memories around me. I can easily get out of this situation.

But what about Kate? Why did I think of that? Did I really have any intention of marrying her?

"Well, then, let's get married," I replied, and her angry expression suddenly became emotionless. She stared at me blankly as if she had run out of patience for my words.

"I'm serious. Do you want to?" I asked her. It wouldn't be so bad to stay here for another 50 years or more.

"I don't want to," she replied shortly, leaving me dumbfounded.

"Huh?" I repeated, thinking that maybe I misheard. Who in their right mind would refuse my handsomeness? Of course, no one would, so surely I must have misunderstood.

"I told you I don't want to marry you. Are you going crazy?" she asked, shattering my self-confidence.

Is she out of her mind? Me, Eligor Cross, being rejected? It's like throwing away a winning lottery ticket.

"Why? What's the reason? Am I not handsome enough? Don't you like me?" I asked, my ego as an incubus slightly bruised by this woman.

"Oh, Eli. Looks aren't the basis for choosing whom you want to marry. Of course, I want someone who loves me," she replied.

I fell silent. This woman considers marriage something special and sacred. It seems Kate attaches great meaning to this and doesn't want to end up as her parents did.

"I don't want to marry someone who won't choose me every day, someone who is only good at the beginning," she answered.

I also felt like I had played with her feelings because of my sudden decisions.

"I'm sorry for not asking you first about what I was going to do. I was annoyed at Gadreel when I saw him, and he denied knowing you." I couldn't really explain why I acted this way towards Kate. I didn't need to justify myself to her, but I did it anyway.

"Ugh, just clarify things with them. Tell them it was all just a joke," she replied, bowing her head and looking at her shoes.

Why is it like this? I don't want to agree with what she wants. I want to help her, and I'll do whatever it takes.

What if I manipulate all their minds? What if I alter Kate's memories so she no longer remembers what Gadreel did to her and makes it seem like we're already married?

I looked at her, still with her head bowed. I could erase her memories in this position.

I raised my right hand, my eyes turning red, and I was ready to touch her head when she suddenly spoke.

"Thank you, Eli, for helping me. I know you just wanted to get back at Gadreel, but I don't want you to get involved," she replied, stopping me.

"I just want to feel true love. That's all I want to experience." I heard her sobbing, trying to hold back tears as her shoulders rose and fell.

"Shh, I know. Don't worry about me. I just want to help you too." It's true. I have nothing else on my mind except helping you, Kate.

"But I know you don't have any feelings for me."

Don't I?

"You're not sure about that, Kate," I said. I already mentioned it to her, and she looked at me in shock, wondering.

I sighed and scratched my head. I leaned next to her and looked at her.

"Okay, I will be honest. Do you think what I'm doing for you is normal for your male friend? Don't you wonder why I'm always there when you have problems?" I asked myself the same question, why am I like this with this woman?

Perhaps I need to be serious and honest about my feelings too.

"Do you think I would agree to pretend to be your fiancé if there wasn't something more?" She stared at me, searching for answers to my questions. Sometimes, this girl can be dense.

"Kate, I think I like you," I answered, and she blinked several times before looking at me again.

"I want you to give me a chance. Let's quit if we truly have no feelings for each other." That's the solution I have for my feelings. I need to find out why I'm feeling this way.

"But... is it okay with you, even with my complicated history? You know all my problems, right?" she asked, and that's exactly what puzzles me.

Despite all the problems with this woman, I still like her.

"I think it's those problems that shaped you into who you are. That's the Kate I've grown fond of."

Damn, what am I saying! Is this normal?
