Chapter 716: I Choose Steven as the Spokesperson

Steven and his group arrived fairly early, so they found a spot and waited.

Before long, Theron arrived at the venue. As soon as he spotted Steven, he hurried over to greet him.

"My captain! What are you doing sitting here?"

Theron walked over with a smile and draped his arm warmly around Steven's shoulder.

Steven sitting here alone looked somewhat lonely, at least compared to Bryce and Clark who were surrounded by admirers. He really didn't have much presence.

Steven gave a faint smile. "I'm just an outsider psychic. Even if I'm captain of the Dire Wolf Team, the big shots of Blizzard City don't necessarily think much of me."

Theron rubbed his bearded chin.

"Can't be helped! There's always a strict pecking order and chain of contempt."

"As an outsider psychic, you're looked down on by most Blizzard City people. They even think less of you than Bryce, who climbed up from the bottom of Blizzard City."

"Let them think what they want!"

Steven shook his head indifferently.

"By the way, Steven, who do you think has a better shot?"

A meaningful smile played at the corner of Steven's mouth as he looked at Theron.

Theron's gaze wandered between the two circles, looking at Clark, then at the wildly popular Bryce.

He sat down next to Steven and said quietly, "Both of them submitted battle requests to Commander Peterson, hoping to lead the operation against Eroding Moon."

"But right now, Death Team's chances look much better."

"Because Shadow Sentinels need to protect Blizzard City. Even though Clark is really strong and has the ability to direct large-scale campaigns, the higher-ups still need him for protection."

"So if we have to pick between these two, I'd still vote for Bryce."

Cindy suddenly spoke up coolly, "Are they the only two you're choosing from?"

Theron froze.

Then he saw Steven's meaningful smile and realized he'd overlooked Steven.

But could Steven really become the leader of this operation?

Theron laughed. "Come on, Steven. You're not that type of person."

Theron knew Steven, knew he wasn't the kind of person who liked competing for fame and power.

If he could help it, Steven would rather stay home lying around than get involved in any tasks that didn't concern him directly.

After laughing, he said slowly, "Besides, you're from outside the city. I don't mean to look down on you, but in Blizzard City, people really do have this kind of exclusionary attitude. It doesn't show normally, but at critical moments it becomes really obvious."

He shrugged. "Wasn't Starlight City the same way back then?"

Steven smiled. "If you say so!"

Soon after, Ian arrived at the venue with Alton and Asher.

Everyone immediately quieted down and greeted Ian.

Ian waved to acknowledge them, then had them all sit down.

Everyone looked at Ian expectantly, waiting for him to announce who would be in charge of the third raid plan.

The power structure of Blizzard City would shift because of this.

Both Clark and Bryce showed anticipation in their eyes.

Ian came to the front and began his speech.

First, he summarized the reasons for the failure of the previous two raid plans and did some self-criticism.

But soon, he brought up the gains from the two raid missions.

"Here, I want to especially praise one person. That's Steven from Starlight City!"

"In the second raid mission, he single-handedly killed four members of Eroding Moon and saved face for Silvercrest District."

"Because of this outstanding achievement, and Steven's personal courage and loyalty to Silvercrest District, I've decided to form a new temporary investigation team centered on Black Cloak Team and the God Investigation Squad, named Dire Wolf Team, and appoint Steven as captain!"

As soon as he said this, the room erupted in discussion.

But people's expressions weren't too surprised.

This news had already been rumored among the higher-ups.

Everyone understood that such a new force was indeed needed.

And Steven had experience fighting Eroding Moon and achieved excellent results, so it made sense for him to be captain.

But Ian's next words made many people feel something was off.

Because Ian didn't mention Clark or Bryce at all, instead constantly promoting Steven's personal outstanding achievements, calling him a rare genius.

"Starting today, for the secrecy of high-level combat personnel, we will no longer use Steven's name publicly. Instead, we'll call him by the codename [Chaos]."

"Similarly, elite members of other combat units will also be referred to by their corresponding codenames publicly."

Only the elite had codenames—like investigation team members and Shadow Sentinels squad leaders and above all had corresponding titles.

But in the past, these codenames were only used during missions.

However, Dire Wolf Team was just a temporary unit.

Yet they'd applied for a special codename for Steven.

And the phrase "from now on" sounded unusual no matter how you heard it.

Listening to Ian's tone, people sensed the situation was getting delicate.

Bryce lowered his eyelids, lost in thought.

Clark also frowned.

"What exactly does Commander Peterson mean?"

Theron, sitting beside Steven, felt his perspective gradually shift. He looked down at Steven. His mind murmured: It can't be, can it?

Just as he had this thought, he heard Ian's voice.

"After careful consideration, I've decided that in the upcoming operation against Eroding Moon, Dire Wolf Team will take the lead! Death Team will support Dire Wolf Team's actions."

"And Steven will be the supreme battlefield commander! The operations command center will provide battlefield guidance."

As soon as he said this, the entire venue erupted in discussion.

Although they were all highly trained professionals who wouldn't normally lose their composure in front of someone as senior as Ian, the current situation shocked everyone and exceeded all expectations!

"What? Having an outsider psychic be the overall commander of this operation?"

"What qualifies him? Whether it's popularity or tactical skills, how can he compare to Bryce or Clark?"

"This is way too reckless!"

"But since Commander Peterson made this decision, he must have thought it through carefully. Looks like this Steven really does have something special."

Some thought quietly.

"He managed to kill four Eroding Moon members, so his strength is solid, but can he really command people like Bryce and Clark?"

Others quickly figured out the real reason.

"Is Commander Peterson worried about someone becoming too powerful? So he chose an easy-to-control outsider psychic for this important position."

"But if he's not capable enough and causes the third raid to fail too, that's going to be a huge problem!"

Everyone had their own thoughts.

After Clark's initial shock, he quickly regained his composure.

For Bryce's group, Dallas looked furious and said heatedly, "Who does he think he is to command us?"

But Bryce shook his head at him.

"Commander Peterson must have his reasons for this decision. And I've heard that this Steven has his own unique qualities."

Bryce had a good relationship with Theron, so he'd heard about some of Steven's achievements.
