Chapter 696: I Want to Improve So Much
Elinor immediately said, "I'll head to the infirmary later and scrape off some of that powder for research."
Steven nodded, "Cool, no rush."
Based on the latest intel from Silvercrest District, Eroding Moon had taken a serious hit and disappeared without a trace.
They were probably laying low, licking their wounds, or recruiting reinforcements.
This meant Steven would have a bit of a breather.
Thinking about how Cindy had just awakened her supernatural ability and was still resting, Steven smiled and said, "Let's grab some food first! When Cindy wakes up, I'll catch you up on everything that's been going on."
Elinor wrapped her arm around Steven's shoulder, looking all cozy as she said, "Sure! Tonight, you gotta tell me everything."
Tonight, Steven would have to go to her room for a good chat.
Steven shrugged, "Whatever you say."
Elinor stayed in the infirmary to keep an eye on Cindy.
When someone first awakens their supernatural ability, there's always an adjustment period, and they need someone to watch over them to prevent any accidents.
Steven, on the other hand, went upstairs with Aubrey to see the others.
Emilia and Nora were busy in the kitchen; a grand welcome feast took a lot of time.
Steven saw Henry, who had just come back from working out, drenched in sweat.
But now, he didn't look like a man in his forties at all.
His muscles were bulging, and his arms were thicker than Elinor's thighs.
He was wearing a black tank top, with a towel around his neck, wiping off sweat.
As soon as he saw Steven, Henry's face broke into a big, honest smile.
"Steven, you're back! How was the mission in Blizzard City? You didn't get hurt, did you?"
Like everyone else, Henry's first concern was Steven's well-being.
Knowing Steven was fine, he finally relaxed.
But then he started to complain.
"I told you, if you need to fight with Solstice's people, you should let me go!"
He pounded his chest, making a thumping sound.
"I might not be good at much, but I've got strength. At the very least, I could take one of them down with me and lighten your load!"
Steven laughed.
Eroding Moon wasn't just any Solstice group; they were incredibly powerful.
It was said that in Solstice's Aether City, they had wiped out dozens of psychic organizations!
Henry's current combat ability made it hard for him to go head-to-head with Solstice members.
"If Blizzard City's drugs can really enhance psychic powers without side effects, it might help Henry and Earl," Steven thought to himself.
Both of them were below LV4 psychics.
Theoretically, they couldn't absorb other psychics' essence to quickly boost their strength.
But in this era of great mutations, no one could claim to fully understand the changes.
If, and it's a big if, even an LV2 psychic could push their abilities to the limit, what level could they reach?
Steven pondered this briefly but didn't delve too deeply, as he didn't know much about it.
However, with more interactions with Silvercrest District, he might get a chance to meet their researchers and gather relevant intel.
Steven snapped back to reality and smiled at Henry, "The situation was urgent, and the district arranged the personnel. I couldn't just call anyone over."
Henry sighed, looking a bit downcast. "I know my abilities are way behind yours. Even though I'm trying to get back my military skills—shooting, fighting, reconnaissance—the more I train, the more I realize how terrifying psychics are. Running into someone like Natasha again, it's not something regular humans can handle!"
Natasha's terrifying abilities had left a deep impression on everyone in Starlight City and the Black Cloak Team. Her power to make the world tremble with a mere gesture could easily crush a warrior who had trained diligently for two and a half years.
Steven patted Henry's shoulder. "Monsters like that are rare and can't be judged by common standards. Everyone has their strengths. The key is to play to those strengths and avoid comparisons."
Just like Nora. Her ability was to make supernatural food, which meant she had no combat power. But she could still play her part.
"Haha, you're right!" Henry's eyes sparkled with confidence. "There must be something I can do for you!"
He looked at Steven with determination.
Steven felt a warmth in his heart, "It's about what we can do for each other."
Two hours later, Emilia and Nora finally had a table full of food ready. Cindy had also woken up under Elinor's care. When they came downstairs and saw everyone, Cindy's face was calm. But the smile on her lips revealed a pride she couldn't hide. After all, she was an eighteen-year-old girl, and it was hard for her to keep her emotions and intellect on the same level. But it was understandable.
Cindy walked gracefully to Steven's side, giving Earl a look that sent him scurrying to a small stool nearby. She sat next to Steven, affectionately holding his arm, looking up at him with a bright smile. "Steven, I can help you now!"
Steven was curious about Cindy's supernatural ability and playfully tapped her nose. "You've always been my best helper."
Cindy giggled, "It's different now." She wouldn't need to hide in the shelter anymore. She could be like Lily and Fluffy, following Steven and fighting alongside him.
Steven's curiosity was piqued. Cindy's way of gaining her supernatural ability was terrifying, involving thirty-seven near-death experiences. But in terms of severity, it was hard to say if it was worse than Steven's. After all, Steven had been hacked to death, his resentment building until he awakened his supernatural ability. Cindy, though she experienced multiple deaths, subconsciously knew it was an experiment, and Elinor would save her at the critical moment.
He leaned in close to Cindy, his warm breath tickling her ear. "What exactly is your supernatural ability? Tell me."
Cindy's neck turned red, and she lowered her head like a little devil, "Steven, do you want to try it?"
Steven was taken aback, "You want me to try it?"
So, Cindy's supernatural ability wasn't purely offensive?
