Chapter 1
After my miscarriage surgery, I dragged my weak body home just wanting to drink some hot soup, when my husband’s childhood sweetheart
shoved the bowl over.
The scalding broth spilled all over me, making me gasp from the pain.
And my husband?
He rushed over to embrace her, blaming me for my bad temper.
That night I fell into a groggy sleep with stomach pain, but when I woke up, I found myself on a snow covered mountain peak in -22°F weather.
In the howling wind, my husband held Scarlett wrapped in her down jacket, looking down at me condescendingly as I wore only thin pajamas.
“Weren’t you so temperamental? Come on, keep throwing your tantrum here.”
My teeth chattered from the cold, but I calmly pulled out my phone and turned on real–time location sharing.
“Brother, it’s time to seize the Carter family’s assets. Along with Kai–I want them all to pay with their fucking lives!”
After I hung up, the crowd of onlookers burst into thunderous laughter.
“Your brother bailed six months ago! Are you frozen stupid or just plain stupid?”
Kai looked down at me with cold indifference.
“Gianna, do you still think you’re some kind of Romano family princess?”
He smirked with contempt.
“Your family’s bankrupt. What makes you think you can still act all high and mighty with me?”
My eyes widened in disbelief.
“What… what did you just say?”
“Still playing dumb? The whole city knows Romano Enterprises is broke. They’re filing for bankruptcy any day now.”
Kai’s voice was ice–cold. “Your brother Dante took the money and ran, leaving you holding the bag.”
I stared at him, my voice trembling. “That’s impossible! My brother would never abandon me!”
“Never abandon you?” Kai scoffed. “Then where is he? Have you seen him even once these past few months?”
I opened my mouth but couldn’t get a word out.
Scarlett shivered in Kai’s arms and said softly, “Kai, just let it go. She’s already pathetic enough. How could she handle this kind of shock?”
“Not like me–I’m just a poor girl who has to work even when I’m dizzy and sick.”
She paused, pretending it was an afterthought: “Living abroad all these years, I’ve seen what happens when wealthy families go bankrupt. Those former princesses always end up…bad.”
Kai’s expression turned even colder.
“Gianna, you hurt Scarlett, and you still don’t get it?”

Chapter i
I was shaking all over–from cold or rage, I couldn’t sett
“I didn’t hurt her! She’s the one who knocked over my soup
“Still lying!” Kai sneered.
All I did was ask her to clean up the nutritious soup my mom made for me–soup that she knocked over barself.
When Scarlett finished cleaning, she was laughing and making plans with her girlfriends to go do yoga
I was about to explain when Kai’s expression instantly turned murderous, his tone suddenly ice cold.
“Since you’re feeling so strong, you can stay here and think about what you’ve done.”
He turned to his friends–a group of rich kids.
“Take off her shoes. Let her feel what real world is like.”
Those guys immediately closed in with vicious grins on their faces.
“No! Kai, you can’t do this to me!” I scrambled backward. “I just had surgery–this will kill me?”
“Kill you?” Kai laughed coldly.
“If you died that easily, you wouldn’t have made it this far.”
