Chapter 56: Who Hit You?
People around who didn't know what was going on were clearly looking at her with misunderstanding.
Pointing and whispering.
Amelia's noble pride would never allow anyone to insult her!
There were only things Amelia didn't want, nothing she couldn't get!
How could she possibly end up being the other woman?
But right now, Mia had cunningly made the first move, making everyone around jump to conclusions.
Unable to explain and too proud to bother, Amelia gripped her bag tightly and shot a cold glance at Mia, who thought she had the upper hand.
"Mia, just you wait. With one word from me, James will let Mabel off immediately! Everything you've done will be for nothing! If you think you can humiliate me, dream on!"
Amelia left proudly and called a car straight to the Smith Group.
……
As soon as Amelia left, the crowd gathered outside the store to watch the drama also dispersed.
Mia put away her defensive attitude and said apologetically to the shop assistant, "I'm sorry, I was just joking earlier."
"It's okay, we understand."
The shop assistant was very understanding.
"You were great just now. That's exactly how you should treat a homewrecker!"
Mia didn't respond.
If Amelia hadn't come to provoke her, she wouldn't have wanted to expose her wounds for everyone to see in public.
The shop assistant didn't say more either, glancing at the cart behind her. "What about these?"
Mia turned and picked out a dozen of her favorite items from the cart and placed them on the counter. "Just these for now."
"Okay."
The shop assistant quickly scanned and packed them for her.
Mia paid by card.
She helped the assistant put the yarn back on the shelves along with the housekeeper before leaving the mall to go home.
……
The Smith Group
Amelia, carrying her bag and wearing high heels, walked in with a powerful presence. As soon as she entered, she heard the receptionists gossiping quietly.
"Did you hear? Robert was suddenly transferred to Zephyria."
"How is that possible? Robert is Mr. Smith's longest-serving assistant."
"It's absolutely true! He's already gone, and no one knows when he'll be back. I heard he misread Mr. Smith's intentions and made him angry, so he was 'sent down' to Zephyria to suffer—"
Hearing this, Amelia's lips curved up smugly.
Without her even saying anything, James had already stood up for her!
This was what happened when you helped Mia offend her.
Serves him right!
Walking with an arrogant stride, she headed straight inside.
The receptionists who had been gossiping saw her and immediately stepped forward to stop her. "Miss, you can't go in without an appointment."
She needed an appointment?
No sense at all.
Amelia looked down at the receptionist blocking her way, her red lips parting slightly. "Stop me? Are you trying to become the second Robert?"
The receptionist froze.
Who was this woman?
From what she was saying, did that mean Robert was sent to Zephyria because he offended her?
As receptionists at the Smith Group, they'd dealt with plenty of women throwing themselves at their boss.
This woman was the only one whose words couldn't be doubted. Her confidence radiated from her bones.
She was intimidated by Amelia. "Please, go ahead."
She didn't dare stop her anymore.
Amelia looked away and continued walking with confident steps.
With this mysterious confidence, she successfully reached the thirty-second floor and arrived at James's office door without any obstacles.
Without even knocking, she turned the handle and walked right in.
Just as the door closed behind her, news that Robert was sent away for offending a beautiful woman spread throughout the entire Smith Group.
……
Although Robert had done well in bankrupting Apex Global Enterprises, whenever James thought about his attitude toward Mia over the past four years, his anger wouldn't subside.
He sent Robert to Zephyria for half a month first thing in the morning.
A small punishment as a warning to teach him a lesson!
On Robert's first day away, James's workload obviously increased significantly.
The office door suddenly opened from outside without a knock. James looked up coldly.
Seeing Amelia, he was clearly surprised for a moment.
Amelia was in a good mood. She closed the door and greeted James with a smile. "James."
"Did Mabel call you?"
Seeing Amelia, James guessed why she was here and got straight to the point.
"Yes, nothing gets past you."
"If you're here to plead for Mabel, don't waste your time."
James didn't want to waste time on something already decided.
His decisions couldn't be changed by anyone.
Hearing this, Amelia paused slightly in her steps. Looking at James's stern face, she smiled gently. "What did Mabel do to upset you? Making such a big move."
"It's not Mabel."
James's gaze fixed on Amelia with some scrutiny.
"Not Mabel? Then who made you so unhappy that you got this angry?"
Amelia's words suggested she knew nothing.
"She—"
The words were on the tip of his tongue, but James choked.
"What about her?"
Amelia asked in confusion.
"Nothing." James changed the subject. "Anyway, there's no room for discussion about Mabel's situation. Don't get involved anymore."
Amelia was completely speechless.
How could she not get involved!
She had already made bold claims in front of Mia. If she couldn't get James to change his mind, how embarrassing would that be!
Amelia's tone obviously softened. For the first time while sober, she lowered her stance slightly in front of James.
"James, no matter what, Mabel is related to me somehow. They came to me for help, how can I not care? For my sake, let Mabel off, okay?"
This was the first time she had "asked" him for something.
James would never refuse her.
"Amelia, I have a very important meeting in five minutes."
James didn't want to waste any more time on Mabel's matter.
He was asking her to leave.
Both being smart people, Amelia naturally understood.
Her eyes were filled with disbelief.
James not only refused her but also asked her to leave?
Was the child in Mia's belly that important?
……
To Amelia, she didn't care at all about what happened to Mabel.
What did it have to do with her?
But Mabel's situation was Mia's way of challenging her!
If she couldn't convince James now, she couldn't change the outcome, which meant Mia won.
How could she stand losing to that bitch Mia!
Letting her gloat—she couldn't swallow this!
Though her mind was racing, Amelia remained gracious on the surface, saying to James with proper manners, "Then I won't make things difficult for you."
As she spoke, she suddenly gasped in pain.
The moment James looked up, she reached up and gently touched her cheek, drawing James's attention there.
"What's wrong?"
James asked with concern, his gaze following her hand to her cheek.
"It's nothing."
Amelia dropped her hand and slowly stood up, smiling faintly. "I won't disturb you anymore. I'll leave now."
"Who hit you?"
James's tone clearly became heavier.
