Chapter 3

'Today is the day,' Eva thought to herself while looking at her new college uniform in the mirror.

It has been over a week since that fated encounter and Eva still could not stop thinking about every single thing that happened. She went down to the dining hall with a huge smile on her face. "You look happy miss," her butler, Mr. Park, said.

"Yes, Uncle Park, and it's all thanks to you," she said happily while sitting at the table alone. But it did not bother her today because the thought of seeing that boy never left her mind.

She was the only daughter of a famous millionaire, but she became an orphan at the age of 3 when her parents died in a car accident. Some say it was a planned murder, and some say it was an unfortunate event, but reasons can't change the fact that her parents were dead and gone forever.

Since then, her family butler, Mr. Park, has been taking care of her as his own child. Till now he was the only one who understood her and has always stayed by her side.

Eva quickly finished her food and went to the car, bidding him goodbye. Her driver dropped her off at her destination—her new school. As she entered the school and went through the halls, she was left in awe. This school was nothing like her previous one. With big halls full of students, chit chatting noisily; it was like an elite college straight out of an anime.

'This is it, Eva Maggot. You can do it.' She took a deep breath and went through the halls, searching for her classroom while looking at the small paper on her hand.

"Class 1-A," she mumbled to herself when someone bumped into her from behind.

She stumbled but a hand was fast enough to catch her. She raised her head, and she locked eyes with the same pair of eyes she saw that night. The only difference was that these eyes were darker and cold.

"Both of you watch where you’re going," he said and entered the classroom. Eva was still frozen, but one thing was certain, she was thrilled with happiness and nervousness.

"I am so sorry to bump into you." Eva was startled by the voice behind her. She turned towards the source, another boy, and gave him a small smile before saying it was okay. She entered the classroom which was, fortunately, the same classroom as the boy with cold eyes and the boy who’d bumped into her.

She entered the classroom, and everyone was staring at her.

'Well, it's rude to just stare,' she thought to herself. She stood in front of an empty seat wondering if it was okay to sit there or not, when the boy who bumped into her spoke, startling her again.

"Hey, if you don't mind you can sit here. Next to me," he said, giving her the best smile, to which she just nodded and sat beside him.

"Ahem, I am Eric Saint. Nice to meet you," he said, giving her a hand to shake.

"Hello, I am Eva Maggot," she said without shaking his hand.

Eric just scratched the back of his head while laughing embarrassingly. It sparked a fire to start gossiping. It must have been time for the gossip club because everyone in the classroom was chattering about what just happened.

“Can't believe she just did that.”

“Did Eric, the second most handsome boy, get rejected?”

“Woah, she got some sass.”

Eva just tried to ignore all the gossip and let her eyes search for the boy she had longed to see. When she spotted him, she was shocked to see that he was looking at her. The boy immediately looked outside the window, avoiding eye contact when their eyes met. She smiled to herself and blushed before turning to the front.

A few days later

It has been more than a week since Eva enrolled in this new academy. She still has not been able to progress with any relationship with Alex. Yes, she finally knew his name when she heard the girls trying to hit on him. She frowned at the scene but was soon smiling when he ignored them and glared at all of them.

Now, she is in class sitting next to Eric. Despite having an awkward start, both of them hit it off instantly after a few conversations and became best friends. At first, she was hesitant towards him but after knowing his true self she let herself open up.

But the thing that bothered Eva, was that Alex really did not talk and always kept to himself. It's not that she did not try to talk to him, but whenever she tried to approach him all his fan girls surrounded him. Another hindrance was Eric. He never let Eva go near him. Why? Because he says so.

But today she was totally determined to talk to him. So, she immediately followed him during the lunch break to the cafeteria.

"Excuse me."

"What?" Alex asked, unbothered to turn towards her. She poked at his back making him turn to look at her. The glare that he sent was enough to make her feel small. Shaking, she raised her hands, holding something. It was chocolates in a square-shaped box.

"Can we be friends?" She lifted her head up trying to act bold.

Alex, on the other hand, just laughed and swatted away her hand, making the box land on the floor. Everyone in the cafeteria watched in shock when Eva smiled at him and picked up the box.

"If you don't like chocolates, then just say so. So, friends?" she asked in a low tone, nervous.

"I don't have time for fakes like you," Alex spat the words out and left the cafeteria, leaving her dumb founded.

'Then why did you say I was precious?' she thought to herself.

“Poor Eva.”

“She deserves that for trying to get close to him.”

“Isn't he becoming too cold?”

Murmurs filled the hall. Eric immediately pulled her away from them.

"Yah! Idiot, didn't I tell you to stay from Alex Garner? He is not the type of guy to be friendly with and is really dangerous. Be happy he did not do anything. Just stay away from him and don't try to get on his nerves," he said with a big sigh, flicking Eva's forehead.

“Ow,” she said while rubbing her forehead with a pout. "He is not that bad you know." Eric just rolled his eyes.

"Yah, not that bad. He is the worst."

"No, he is not."

"How can you be so sure?" Eric raised his eyebrows and shook his head, not believing how stupid and clueless Eva was being.

"Because he saved me that night," she said with a low whisper while Eric had the laugh of his life.

"He saved your life? That is crazy or stupid or both. It would only be possible if he had a ‘twin’ brother,” he said, while Eva's eyes literally shined.

That's when Eric realized that she couldn't be helped; it was impossible.

"You know I said 'if.' There's no way he has a twin. Oi where the hell are you going?!" And with that Eric could only stand and watch Eva run away while waving her hands.
