Chapter 16
Rhyland’s POV
“What the hell, Raven?!”
Her eyes snapped up to Cassius and for a split second she looked completely lost.
“I-, wait.. how did I end up out here?” Her eyes fogged over with confusion before bolting open as a sharp intake of air entered her lungs.
“Eladia! Wait, where’s Eladia?!” She shouted, looking around frantically. I took a small stepped towards her but before I reached her, Cassius stepped infront of me and placed a hand on my shoulder.
“You’ve done enough. I think you should go.” His eyes were hardened when he looked at me and I could see pure hatred, for what reason I had no clue.
“Raven, how are you feeling?” I asked and she just rubbed her temples while wincing.
“I- I don’t feel right..” she said groggily and that’s when Jasmine’s screams cut through the commotion.
“I will tell the king about this.. this.. monstrosity and he will have all of your heads!!” She seethed through gritted teeth and I could see fury behind those glass doll-like eyes.
She threw the bottom of her dress to the side and started up the hill with one thing on her mind, getting the two of them killed.
That’s not going to happen.
“Guards! Father! Someone!” She screamed and trudged towards the castle doors, I had to think of something and do it quickly.
Grabbing her wrists I spun her around and pressed her against the wall just beside the door that led inside the castle.
“You will not speak of this to anyone, including my father.”
My eyes bore into her lifeless ones, ones that were so different compared to Raven’s twinkling gaze.
“And why shouldn’t I?! Your little bitch nearly killed me today an-,”
“And you nearly killed a maid today, one that’s very close with Raven. You got what you had coming to you as frankly I don’t think I would’ve stopped it if I’d have known a way around Raven getting killed because of such a meaningless death.” I spat and the fury in her eyes simmered down, replaces by a look of hurt.
“You.. you don’t mean that Rhyland. You’re just confused is all.” She muttered out shaking her head, her hand rubbing down my arm that held her trapped.
“No, for once in my life I’m not confused. I’m not blinded by a money hungry whore and a power craving father. I see everything for what it really is, for who you really are.”
Her eyes watered up and a tear threatened to spill over the seal of her eye.
“Rhyland.. we were suppose to get married, have children, it was our duty to our countries I-,”
“The key word, suppose to. When I think of who I want to marry, it’s not someone who belittles others for who they are. It won’t be someone who uses their power for violence, and last but not least. It most certainly will not be you.”
A tear slipped down her cheek before she shoved it away, her eyes hardened and her face coiled up in anger.
“You’ll regret it, Rhyland. You and your little peasant will regret the day either of you were ever born.” She tried to spin out of my grasp but I just chuckled and tightened my grip.
“You think it’s that easy?”
I move in closer to her, making sure that she is focused on my eyes only.
You’ll leave here, you and your father. Tell him you recieved a letter from a friend back home and you’re needed immediately, do not speak of any events that have occurred today. Just remember that you are a worthless being that needed to be taught a lesson.
The words flowed from my mind and slipped into hers. Her eyes cleared up and a slow nod was the indication I got from her.
I backed up away from her and she looked down at the ground, slightly confused before shaking it off and walking through the door and down the hallway.
A round of applause caused me to jump and I spun around to find Queen Fara’s son, Elijah, leaning against the stone wall.
“Well done, that was one hell of a breakup.” He said as he pushed off the wall and smirked over at me.
“We were never together, it wasn’t a breakup.” I grumbled and when I looked back over at him, his face was serious and all jokes had been wiped clean.
“You enjoy her conpany?”
I cocked my head to the side and shook my head.
“Hell no, Jasmine’s a-,”
“Not Jasmine you jackass, Raven.”
I felt the air thicken around us at the subject and I found myself wanting to argue and ask him why he was worried about it but chose not to.
“You could say that.”
Elijah nodded and took a step closer with his head down towards the floor.
“I can tell by that little stunt you just pulled that you chose to protect her instead of letting her do something to get herself killed.”
“She was only doing what was right.” I defended myself by throwing that statement up, knowing it was a full lie and that was not the reason why I wanted to protect her.
“A lot of people were killed by your family’s hand when they were ‘only doing what was right’. What makes her any different?” He pestered and I felt my anger bubble up.
“I don’t know. I just -,”
“Just feel the need to protect her?” He interrupted.
“Yeah.” I grumbled and his thumb scraped by his lip like he was contemplating his next words.
The silence was annoyingly creepy as I awaited his next words that I thought weren’t going to come until he spoke up.
“If you really want to protect her, keep her from your father’s hold for as long as you can.” He whispered and I went to looked up at him with questionable eyes but I was only met with empty space infront of me.
He was gone.
I lifted my hand to scratch the back of my neck, slightly confused as to what the hell he was meaning.
But one thing was certain, I definitely had to keep her away from my father’s grasp. His blind hatred for BlueBloods ran too deep and Elijah just edged the paranoia deeper into my mind.

Raven’s POV
“Alright, alright. Sit down” Cassius instructed as he eased me down onto the soft plush bedding.
My eyes fluttered open then closed again, I knew I had exhausted my magic a tad bit.
“Would you mind telling me what the hell happened? You know you aren’t suppose to allow yourself to dive that deep into your magic angry. The elements can feel something off and automatically want to take charge.”
I groaned when he began lecturing me about my blood type and the effects anger has on my kind, along with someone along the lines of ‘you need anger management’, or something of that sort.
“Can we just talk about this tomorrow? I can’t even think properly right now.” I groaned and flopped back down onto the bed.
I heard a sigh leave Cassius before he pulled the covers back and tossed them over me. With a quick hug, he pulled away.
“I suppose so. Just shout if you need me, I’ll be awake.”
My eyebrows furrowed at this and I opened one eyes slightly in confusion.
“Why is that?”
He chuckled and grabbed a pillow off the side of the bed that I wasn’t occupying then grabbed an extra sheet from the closet.
“Well, because I’m sure the floor isn’t going to be that comfortable.” He flung the sheet out and let it spread out over the floor and placed the pillow at the head of it.
“No you really don’t have to do that, Cassius I promise I’ll be fine.” I coaxed and he just ignored me as he whistled a tune and fixed the pallet to his liking.
“And let me little sister be an entire room away from me this weak? Not an option.” He stated and a raspy laugh left my throat.
“I might be weak but I can still take you.”
A roar of laughter escaped him and he nodded.
“You’re probably right about that.” He said as he smiled down at me, with one quick movement of his hand, the lamp on the night stand was turned off and only the moon light from the widow was showing.
“Goodnight, Raven.”
I smiled and shut my eyes completely, the overpowering tiredness about to take me along with its currents.
“Goodnight, Cassius.”
