Angelo’s POV: As the professor praised their work, Angelo felt a swell of pride. They had done it together, and despite the tensions, they had come out stronger. But as he looked between Celeste and Briar, he sensed that the journey wasn’t over. “Let’s celebrate after class,” he suggested, trying to lighten the mood further. “Maybe grab lunch together?” Celeste’s eyes sparkled, and Briar smiled, though he noticed her hesitation. Did she feel like an outsider? “Sure, that sounds great,” Celeste replied enthusiastically. “I could use a good meal after all this.” As they walked out of the classroom, Angelo’s heart was lighter. But in the back of his mind, he knew they still had to navigate the complexities of their relationships.
Celeste’s POV:
Celeste watched as Briar and Angelo exchanged a few quick, encouraging smiles before the presentation began. It was subtle, but it made her stomach twist. She reminded herself to stay focused—this was about their project, not her insecurities.
As they began their presentation, Celeste spoke confidently, detailing their research and findings. She could feel the professor’s eyes on her, and it fueled her determination. But every time she glanced at Angelo, she couldn’t help but feel a pang of jealousy toward Briar.
Midway through the presentation, Briar seamlessly took over, explaining their visual components with enthusiasm. Celeste admired her passion, but it also ignited a flicker of insecurity. Would Briar overshadow her?
“Great job, you two,” the professor commented as they wrapped up. “You’ve clearly put a lot of effort into this. I’m impressed.”
Celeste felt a rush of relief wash over her. “Thank you, Mrs. Amato. We really enjoyed working on it together,” she said, glancing at Briar and Angelo, who both nodded in agreement.
Setting: The café, where the atmosphere has shifted slightly as tensions rise and fall. Celeste sits at the table with Angelo and Briar, feeling exposed yet determined to voice her feelings.
Celeste’s POV:
Celeste walked into the café, her heart racing as she spotted Angelo and Briar sitting at a corner table. What was this all about? The tension in the air was thick, and she could feel her stomach knotting as she approached them.
“Hey,” she said, forcing her voice to remain steady despite the storm of emotions brewing inside her.
“Thanks for coming, Celeste,” Angelo said, his tone sincere. But there was something in his eyes that made her heart drop. Was it guilt?
Briar looked nervous, her fingers nervously tracing the rim of her coffee cup. “We wanted to talk to you about the project and…everything else.”
Everything else. The words sent a shiver down her spine. She crossed her arms defensively, bracing herself for whatever was about to unfold. “Is that what this is about? You two are getting closer?”
Angelo’s face shifted into an expression of concern. “Briar and I have connected while working on the project, but I don’t want you to think it’s something it’s not.”
Celeste felt a heat rising in her chest. “So, you’re saying you’re just friends? Because that’s not how it looks from where I’m sitting.” Her words came out sharper than intended, but she couldn’t help it. The sight of them together had twisted something deep inside her.
Angelo took a deep breath, his expression earnest. “Celeste, it’s complicated. We have chemistry, yes, but I’m not looking for anything more than friendship with Briar. You’re my girlfriend, and I want to make this work.”
The tension hung heavy between them. Why did this feel so unfair? She had always known that Angelo was a kind-hearted person, but now that kindness was spilling into their friendship, and it felt like she was being pushed aside.
“Why should I believe that?” she retorted, her voice rising. “You’ve been spending all your time with her, and I can’t help but feel like I’m losing you.”
“Celeste, I don’t want to lose you either,” he said earnestly, reaching for her hand. The warmth of his touch sent a wave of comfort through her, but she couldn’t let her guard down just yet.
“You’re important to me,” he continued. “I don’t want to jeopardize what we have. But I also want to have friendships outside of our relationship.”
But what about me? The thought echoed in her mind, a painful reminder of her insecurities. Was she not enough for him? “It’s just hard for me to trust this situation,” she admitted, her voice softening slightly. “I want to believe you, but I can’t shake the feeling that you two have something more.”
Briar spoke up then, her voice steady and sincere. “Celeste, I never wanted to create any tension. I promise I’m not trying to come between you and Angelo. I respect your relationship.”
Celeste turned her gaze to Briar, seeing the earnestness in her eyes. She was genuinely trying to reassure her, but the fear lingered in Celeste’s heart. “I appreciate you both being upfront about this. I want to trust you, Angelo. I just need to know that I’m still a priority.”
“Always,” he promised, squeezing her hand gently. The weight of his words washed over her, and for a moment, she felt the slightest flicker of hope.
After a moment of silence, Celeste finally nodded, her defenses beginning to lower. “Okay. Let’s just keep talking, and hopefully, we can find a way through this.”
As they continued their conversation, she could feel the tension starting to ease. Maybe this could work. They were all on the same page, at least for now.
But a part of her is still worried. Would she ever fully trust this new dynamic? The thought of losing Angelo to someone else, even unintentionally, gnawed at her insides.
Yet, as they talked and shared laughter, Celeste realized that they were navigating uncharted waters together. Maybe communication could be the key.
As they left the café, Celeste felt a mix of relief and uncertainty. She wanted to believe that their relationship could survive this—maybe even thrive. But she knew she had to be vigilant. She wouldn’t let her insecurities cloud her judgment, but she wouldn’t let her guard down completely either.
