Chapter 485: Edward & Moira 30
Edward returned to the York Group immediately after coming back to the country, while Moira was asked to stay at home and not go out.
The incident happened at a nearly completed building project, where it was said that two workers, after drinking too much, fell out of a window and died on the spot.
Rainbow Realty Investments is a subsidiary of the York Group, with an excellent reputation, so the Pleasant View Bay project was sold out as soon as it was launched.
Now, with the building almost completed, this incident has made the residents feel that the place has bad feng shui. They not only want a refund but also compensation.
The families of the two deceased workers started causing trouble, claiming that since the workers died on the construction site, they should be compensated.
Edward's face darkened as he looked at Vance, "Tell the lawyers to sue these families. Not only will we not compensate them a single dollar, but we will also make them compensate us for our economic losses. If this is difficult, then the legal team trained by the York Group is useless."
Vance nodded, "What about the residents?"
Edward tapped his fingers lightly on the table, "Tell them that if they are willing to stay, each household will get a reduction of one million dollars. If they are not willing to stay, we will refund the full amount and pay them according to the bank's current interest rate. If they are still not satisfied and continue to cause trouble, tell them they will never be allowed to purchase properties developed by the York Group in the future. Prepare the materials and get ready for the afternoon press conference."
Vance nodded, "Yes."
Moira was restless at home, knowing that the group was in big trouble this time, especially since it involved fatalities.
Although the two workers fell to their deaths after drinking too much, it still severely affected the York Group.
Now, whenever she opened her phone, all the news and videos were about this incident.
Moira clicked on the video of the press conference and saw Edward standing at the podium, addressing the measures taken in response to the incident.
She thought it was reasonable, but the families of the deceased and some troublemakers disagreed, causing a scene and even throwing water bottles at Edward.
Edward's face was grim, like the prelude to a storm, and he said word by word, "If you think this is unreasonable, then leave your names. The York Group is willing to take each of you to court. One year, two years, ten years, twenty years, it doesn't matter."
Lawsuits consume time, energy, and money, and few people can compete with such a large multinational company.
Yet, there were still four or five people who were indignant and left their names, saying they were ready to sue the York Group.
Although Moira was not very shrewd, she could see that these people must have someone behind them; otherwise, it would be impossible for individuals to go against the York Group.
She looked at the time; it was already six o'clock in the evening.
She guessed that Edward hadn't eaten.
Moira thought for a moment, made some food, packed it in a lunch box, and headed out.
Everything went smoothly until her car stopped in the underground garage.
She got out of the car with the lunch box and walked towards the private elevator.
At that moment, a figure rushed out from behind her and struck the back of her neck.
The lunch box in Moira's hand fell to the ground.
A man picked her up and ran towards a nearby van, which quickly sped away.
Edward talked with the lawyers until late; he looked at his watch, and it was already ten o'clock.
He said, "We'll continue tomorrow. Everyone go home."
After the lawyers left, he rubbed his temples and called Moira, but her phone was off.
He thought it might be out of battery or she was asleep.
He took his car keys and left the office. After walking a few steps out of the private elevator, he saw the lunch box on the ground, the same as the one from home.
He quickly walked over and saw the scattered food inside, his heart sinking.
He quickly stood up and searched for Moira's car.
He was terrified; if he found it, it meant Moira was in trouble.
Standing in front of the car, his breathing became heavy.
He called Sterling to track Moira's whereabouts.
Sterling was very surprised; he didn't expect Edward to be so anxious about a woman.
He didn't ask Edward and quickly started looking for clues.
Edward sat in the car, smoking one cigarette after another, unable to determine who had kidnapped Moira.
Soon, Sterling called back.
"Edward, the surveillance in the underground garage was deleted, but it has been restored. Moira was taken by a man into a van around seven o'clock. The van went to the outskirts of Cairo Ridge, and then there was no more surveillance."
Edward extinguished the cigarette, "Send me the driving route."
After hanging up, he called Vance, "Bring fifty people and come with me."
In a dimly lit room, Moira slowly opened her eyes.
Her neck hurt a lot.
She recalled being attacked in the underground garage.
She moved and found her hands and feet were tied.
She was very scared, her heart pounding.
Suddenly, the door opened, and someone turned on the light.
The sudden brightness was blinding, making Moira involuntarily close her eyes.
When she opened them again, she saw two men standing in front of her, wearing masks and bare-chested, looking down at her.
One man spoke with a voice changer, "Do you know what you're about to face?"
Moira's hands were tied behind her back. She mustered the courage to say, "I have no grudge against you. Why did you kidnap me? If you want money, I can give you money. Just don't ruin me."
The man laughed, squatting down and showing her a photo on his phone, "Do you know this person?"
Moira looked and then shouted, "What did you do to my dad?"
The man patted her face, "What did we do? As long as you help us, we'll release your dad. Otherwise, we'll take out his kidney today, his cornea tomorrow, his liver the day after, and finally his heart."
Moira burst into tears, "What do you want me to do?"
The man whispered something in her ear.
Moira shook her head, "No, I can't betray him. I can't."
"Fine, I'll call now and have your dad killed!"
"No!" Moira screamed in terror.
The man tore open her shirt, the buttons popping off and hitting the floor.
"Let's have some fun first and make a video. Then you'll know what to choose."
Moira kicked and struggled, and the man slapped her hard.
Seeing blood at the corner of Moira's mouth, the man grabbed her neck, "I'll ask you one last time, do you want your dad or Edward?"
Moira sobbed, "I want my dad."
The man behind the mask smirked, "That's right. Your dad gave birth to you and raised you. If you don't choose your dad, you'd be unfilial! But to be safe, Moira, we'll still have to wrong you!"
He tore off Moira's dress and was about to film when he saw blood flowing between her legs.
The man cursed, "What a buzzkill!"
The other man said, "This isn't right. Did she have a miscarriage?"
