Chapter 84 Attempt to Escape

Chapter 84 Attempt to Escape

Easton noticed Declan's curious look but had no intention of answering any of his questions.

Easton had come to see Owen just to provoke him, mock him, and crush any thoughts he had about Cassidy.

Now that his task was done, there was no reason for him to stay any longer.

He'd rather spend his time with Cassidy than waste it on irrelevant people.

On his way back to the villa, his phone suddenly buzzed with a notification.

Someone had found his safe in the villa and tried to open it.

Easton raised an eyebrow at the message. He hadn't expected Cassidy to be so clever, finding the key to her shackles so quickly. It seemed he'd have to hide the key better next time.

After Easton left, Cassidy searched the entire room.

Even with shackles on her feet, she refused to just sit there and wait for Easton to come back and torment her further.

She had to find a way to save herself.

But after searching every corner of the room, she found no communication tools. Easton had cut off any possibility of her seeking help from the outside world.

However, there was a silver lining—She found the key to her shackles under the carpet.

Guessing that Easton had hidden it there on purpose, Cassidy's face fell.

Easton knew her too well.

She didn't know where Easton had gone or when he would return, so she had to act quickly to find more information that could help her escape the villa.

She headed to Easton's study.

If Easton had deliberately left the key to her shackles, could he have also left a phone?

The study door wasn't locked. Did that mean there was something inside that Easton wanted her to find?

She searched the study but found nothing useful, so she turned her attention to the safe.

The safe was protected by a combination lock. She stared at it, hoping the thing she needed was inside.

But she didn't know the combination. How could she open it?

Would Easton use his birthday as the code?

No, Easton was too cunning to use something so obvious.

What about her birthday?

Since Easton hadn't locked the study and had placed the safe in plain sight, did that mean he wanted her to open it?

If this was all part of his plan, the code must be a number related to her.

Cassidy entered her birthday and pressed the "confirm" button, feeling her nerves tighten.

But the safe emitted a harsh beep, indicating the code was incorrect.

Her birthday was wrong. What other date could it be?

What other date was significant to her and important enough for Easton to use as the code?

The day they first met? The day she married Ashton? The day she became the head of the family?

Or maybe the day she agreed to have a child with him?

Cassidy thought for a long time but dismissed all those possibilities.

Could it be the day she escaped?

She had used Easton's plan to fake her death and flee to a small town, hoping never to see him again and to spend the rest of her life there.

Was that date significant to Easton?

Cassidy's heart pounded faster.

She bit her lip and finally entered that date.

It had to work!

Cassidy prayed silently, pressing the "confirm" button with her eyes closed. The world seemed to go silent.

She hoped the safe contained something that could help her escape. She hoped her second guess was correct.

But God didn't hear her prayers. The harsh beep sounded again, indicating the code was wrong.

Cassidy angrily pounded the safe.

"What numbers did Easton use for the code?" she muttered to herself.

Cassidy stared at the safe but didn't dare to try again.

She had already entered the wrong code twice. If she got it wrong one more time, the safe would lock.

She had to find another way out.

Before leaving, Easton had locked all the doors and even sealed the windows, blocking all her escape routes.

If she couldn't open the door, she'd have to try the window.

Maybe she could break the glass and jump from the second floor.

With that thought, Cassidy acted.

She found a sturdy baseball bat in the study, gripped it tightly, and smashed the window.

Glass shards flew everywhere, some cutting her face. Blood trickled down her cheek to her neck.

But Cassidy didn't have time to worry about her injuries. She looked at the broken window, overjoyed. "I did it!"

She checked the height. She was on the second floor. It wasn't too high, but she might get hurt if she jumped directly.

Cassidy didn't hesitate. She took the bedsheets and curtains from the bedroom and tied them together to make a makeshift rope.

With this "rope," she could reduce the impact of the fall.

Even if she got hurt, she had to leave.

She couldn't stay here any longer. This life of captivity wasn't what she wanted.

Easton knew Cassidy would try to open his safe, but he was confident she wouldn't guess the code.

So he wasn't in a hurry to return to the villa. He was even curious about what Cassidy would do when she couldn't open the safe.

To satisfy his curiosity, Easton delayed his return.

But he didn't expect to see Cassidy sitting on the window ledge, looking down as if she was about to jump!

"Cassidy!" Easton's face turned pale.

He felt his heart leap into his throat, his blood boiling. He jumped out of the car before it even stopped and ran toward where Cassidy might fall.

Cassidy was startled by Easton's voice. She hadn't expected him to return so quickly.

She glanced at the distance between them.

With the bedsheets, she wouldn't get hurt when she landed. If she ran fast enough, she might reach the street and find help.

Cassidy didn't hesitate. She jumped!

"Cassidy!"

As Cassidy jumped, Easton felt his heart stop. He couldn't see or hear anything. He just wanted to reach Cassidy and catch her.

Cassidy's body plummeted, the sensation of falling making her dizzy. She closed her eyes, not daring to look around.

As soon as she landed, she would run. Easton wouldn't catch up to her in time.

If she was fast enough, she could escape!

Cassidy kept reassuring herself, her heart pounding.

Finally, she landed.
