Chapter 74 Found News About Cassidy
Cassidy really didn't want to tell anyone about her relationship with Easton, but given the current situation, maybe once Owen found out, he'd realize she wasn't as great as he thought.
When she was with the Cooper family, she was his stepmother. But after Ashton died, she and Easton had slept together multiple times.
Maybe once Owen knew all this, he'd see that Cassidy wasn't worth his affection.
To shatter all of Owen's unrealistic fantasies about her, she had to destroy the image he had of her.
"Owen, Easton and I have hooked up a lot. After Ashton died, we kept it going."
"If I hadn't left the Cooper family, I probably would have ended up marrying Easton."
Owen's face turned pale at these words. Cassidy couldn't tell what he was thinking, but she just wanted him to be disappointed in her and take back all his feelings.
"Owen, Easton and I have done it in a lot of places. I'm sure you've heard us before, maybe even almost walked in on us a few times."
Cassidy had calmed down. As she stated these facts, Owen couldn't read her emotions at all.
Owen suddenly remembered something from a long time ago. One day, he had indeed heard unusual sounds at home and had his suspicions. But Easton had caught him and scolded him, so he never got to see what was really happening.
Now, hearing Cassidy's words, what was there left to misunderstand?
It must have been Easton and Cassidy having sex that day, and Easton scolded him to keep him from finding out!
He had once seen surveillance footage of Easton and Cassidy having sex, so he knew about their relationship.
But he always thought Cassidy was being forced. Otherwise, why would she run away from Easton?
But now, Cassidy was openly talking about her relationship with Easton, trying to use it to push him away.
She even said that if she hadn't left the Cooper family, she would have married Easton. Was she saying this because she really wanted to marry Easton, or just to drive him away?
Owen opened his mouth to speak. He wanted to say he already knew about their relationship.
He wanted to say he didn't care about Cassidy's past.
He wanted to say he wouldn't back down because of her words.
He wanted to tell Cassidy that if she was willing, he would treat her better than Easton ever did.
But looking into Cassidy's mocking eyes, he couldn't say a word.
Because he knew, no matter what he said, Cassidy wouldn't believe him.
In Cassidy's mind, he was just a newly adult kid, someone who didn't understand anything.
Seeing him fall silent, Cassidy thought her words had worked.
The mockery on her face became even more pronounced.
"Owen, you should go back now. Don't come here again. I don't want to see you anymore."
She hadn't wanted to use such a harsh tone to drive Owen away, but if she didn't, he might think she couldn't bear to part with him.
Cassidy had to destroy all of Owen's feelings for her.
The night was deep, and the room was very quiet, with only the sound of breathing.
Owen lowered his head. After a long silence, he finally moved.
Owen slowly got off the bed, not saying a word. Before leaving, he glanced at Cassidy, but she seemed to know he was looking at her, showing only her profile.
"Cassidy, I hope you find happiness," Owen hesitated for a moment but finally spoke. He didn't wait to see Cassidy's reaction and left the small town in the night.
...
Easton was drowning in the pain of losing Cassidy, too preoccupied to care about anyone else's whereabouts.
Chase had promised to help him track down Cassidy, so he had been investigating all this time.
Finally, he got a lead and rushed to tell Easton. "Easton, I found some news about Cassidy!"
"What?" Easton lifted his head from a pile of empty bottles. He hadn't slept in a long time and had drunk too much, so he was in terrible shape.
His eyes were bloodshot, with dark circles under them, and he looked utterly worn out.
Chase shook his head at the sight of Easton.
"You're in really bad shape, you know that? Easton, are you trying to drink yourself to death?"
Easton ignored Chase's warning and grabbed Chase by the collar, pulling him close. "What did you say? You found news about Cassidy?"
Of course, Easton's ears only perked up at news about Cassidy.
Chase wanted to make a snarky comment but, seeing the hopeful look in Easton's eyes, decided to just share the results of his investigation.
"I tracked Cassidy to a very remote place, but after that, I couldn't find any more information."
"What did you find? Tell me!" Easton shook Chase anxiously. He had said so much but hadn't gotten to the most important part!
"Calm down!" Chase freed himself from Easton's grip. Easton had grabbed his collar so tightly that his neck felt uncomfortable.
Rubbing his neck, Chase continued, "The latest news is that Cassidy stayed in a village, but we haven't found anything else yet."
"That's good." Easton lay back on the couch, covering his eyes with his hand, repeatedly muttering the same words in relief.
Finding Cassidy's trail meant she wasn't dead.
As long as Cassidy wasn't dead, he could find her.
Easton remembered the birth control pills he had found in Cassidy's room.
Cassidy had planned her escape for a long time, so she didn't want to get pregnant with his child. Everything she said was just to please him and make him lower his guard.
Well played, Cassidy!
Easton let out a cold laugh, grabbed a bottle from the table, and drank it all, but the alcohol didn't quench his frustration. He smashed the empty bottle on the ground.
The shards flew everywhere, and Easton finally felt a bit of relief.
Chase was startled, thinking Easton was angry again.
"Easton, don't be so mad. Maybe the Cooper family's enemies took Cassidy. Now that we have a lead, we'll find her soon."
Easton sneered, "If she was really taken by our enemies, wouldn't they have contacted me?"
If Cassidy had been taken by the Cooper family's enemies, they would have used her to threaten the family. But they hadn't received any threats.
And with the strange things he found in Cassidy's room, Easton was sure Cassidy had deliberately escaped from him.
He could give her everything, yet she still ran away from him!
When he found Cassidy, he would lock her in a room. He wouldn't let her see anyone else but him!
