Just as they were having a good chat, Scarlett barged in out of nowhere.
She yanked Hailey aside and started yelling at Cassidy. "Cassidy, why'd you bring someone so shabby to our party? Look at her clothes, they're so cheap! She doesn't belong here!"
Hailey was caught off guard and didn't know what to do.
Scarlett's outburst shocked Cassidy too, but she quickly regained her composure.
Cassidy pulled Hailey behind her. She knew Scarlett was a favorite in the Moore family and figured she was acting out because her talk with Owen hadn't gone well.
Cassidy tried to smooth things over. "Hailey's my friend, why can't she be here? I gave her that dress, it's not some cheap thing. I don't get why you're so hostile, maybe we can talk this out?"
Scarlett sneered, "No one wants to talk to you! If you weren't a mistress, you wouldn't even be here!"
Cassidy was stunned. Rachel had scolded Scarlett for making such remarks before, and Cassidy thought she had learned her lesson. Clearly, however, Scarlett's grudge ran deep.
"Scarlett! You've said this before, and Mrs. Moore already warned you. Are you trying to insult me or the whole Cooper family?" Cassidy shot back.
The crowd was shocked by Scarlett's words. Even if they didn't get why Ashton made Cassidy the head of the family, her position meant something. Scarlett's words were almost a slap in the face to the Cooper family.
People started whispering, mostly about how rude Scarlett was.
Scarlett, losing it and convinced it was all Cassidy's fault, fumed as she grabbed a wine glass and threw it at Cassidy.
The crowd gasped. Cassidy, caught off guard, could only raise her hand to block the wine.
"Oh my God!" someone shouted. Scarlett looked at Easton standing in front of her and realized what she'd done, stepping back in fear.
Easton's spare suit, already donned after his first was messed up, was instantly soaked with wine, revealing a big stain on the dark fabric. Calmly wiping the wine from his face, a sharp look flashed in his eyes.
The whispers and stares made Easton the center of attention, but he stayed cool, like this whole mess was just a minor hiccup, not enough to faze him.
When Scarlett realized who she had splashed, she was so scared she dropped the wine glass, which shattered with a loud crash.
"Easton, are you okay?" Cassidy rushed to check on him.
Easton frowned as he took off his suit, giving Cassidy a look. "You sure know how to stir things up."
Cassidy's face fell; she hadn't seen this coming either. But now wasn't the time to argue with Easton.
Rachel heard the commotion and hurried over. Seeing the wine on Easton's suit, she let out a scream. "What happened?"
Rachel's eyes darted to Scarlett, who was trembling, clutching her dress with a terrified look, and the broken wine glass at her feet.
Quickly piecing it together, Rachel realized that Scarlett, given her personality, would never dare provoke Easton. The only explanation was that Scarlett had tried to cause trouble for Cassidy and ended up splashing wine on Easton instead.
Rachel's mind went blank. She knew her daughter was arrogant and had reminded her to behave today. But she had only been away for a bit, and her daughter had caused such a scene!
Rachel frantically apologized to Easton.
Easton calmly took off his suit and tossed it aside, wiping the wine off his face. His expression gave nothing away.
After wiping his face, he looked at Rachel. "Miss Moore's behavior has seriously offended our family. It seems she has a deep dislike for the Cooper family. We need to reconsider the marriage alliance with the Moore family."
Owen, who had rushed over when he saw Scarlett raise the wine glass, wasn't as fast as Easton and could only watch Cassidy care for Easton.
Hearing Easton's words, Owen realized this was the perfect chance to call off the engagement with Scarlett.
He stepped forward. "I can't accept someone who despises the Cooper family and acts so rudely as my wife. I want to annul the engagement with Ms. Moore."
Rachel's face turned grim.
Easton and Owen saying this in front of everyone was a slap in the face to the Moore family, but the whole mess was Scarlett's fault, and she had no grounds to argue.
Rachel could only grimly order the servants to take Scarlett away. "Take Scarlett back to her room immediately! Don't let her out without my permission!"
