Chapter 61
Damien POV
“This is it,” I muttered as I entered the press conference room and took a seat.
Everywhere went quiet as they saw me.
Cassandra sat beside me, her face unreadable. I turned to her and whispered,
“Are you ready?”
She gave me a nod.
Then I signaled the PR team to start the
press
conference.
The press conference began.

I cleared my throat and leaned toward the microphone.
“Good day, everyone. First of all, I would like to clarify that whatever happened in the elevator was not what it looked like…”
That was a mistake.
The moment I mentioned the elevator scene, the reporters immediately started bombarding me with questions.
“Then what exactly was it, Mr. Damien?”
“If you weren’t sleeping with her in the elevator, why was she on top of you, and why were you holding her so intimately?”
“Are you denying that you were engaged in a sexual act?” another reporter asked.
“And strangely, we can’t find the CCTV footage from that night, nor was there any reported elevator malfunction.”
Questions upon questions were thrown at me, and before I could answer one, another followed.
“Mr. Damien, if nothing inappropriate happened, why did the hotel’s security system suddenly lose all footage of that moment?” one reporter pressed.
“Or was it tampered with?” another asked.

“Who ordered the footage to be erased?”
I rubbed my hair. This was going to be a long night.
“Nothing was erased, and we are still working on getting the footage,” I answered.
“So you admit there was something to erase?”
Damn it.
I took a deep breath. These reporters surely wanted to get on my nerves.
“If you heard me clearly, you—”
“Then why is the footage missing?”
I shot Cassandra a quick look, urging her to say something, but she just sat there, calm and composed, as if she had been expecting this chaos–and maybe even enjoying it. .
“Would you mind explaining the relationship you have with Miss Cassandra? Is it platonic, or…?”
“Finally,” I’muttered–the question I had been waiting for.
This was the whole point of the conference: to let everyone know that Cassandra and I were never a thing.
I opened my mouth to say, strictly business, but before I could, Cassandra placed her hand over mine.
She said, “I got this.”
And stupidly, I let her take the lead, as something in me told me she was the best person to tell them the truth.
She leaned closer to the mic.
“You know, the first time I met Damien was years ago, and strangely, it was during a business meeting,” she said. “And from the very first moment I saw him, I knew he was someone special.”
I looked at her, wondering what the hell she was talking about. Why was she bringing up when we first
met?
“What are you doing?” I whispered.
“We worked closely together on a project, and… well, you know, we got divorced due to some minor differences.”

Wait. What? What was she going on about?
I turned my head sharply to look at her, but she didn’t even glance in my direction.
She continued.

“Then, after many years of not seeing each other, we reconnected through business. At first, we tried to hold back. We tried to be professional. But love doesn’t follow rules, does it?”
I felt the blood rush through my veins as I grabbed my mic and tried to say something, but it was off.
What the hell was she doing?
I leaned into her mic, trying to cut in, but Cassandra kept going.
“The truth is… we couldn’t resist each other anymore. The moment in the elevator wasn’t something meant for the world to see. It was a private moment between two people who love each other.”
Damn it. She had really gone insane.
I could already see the cameras zooming in on her. They were paying attention, and they didn’t even
bother interrupting her like they did with me.
Cassandra just turned and smiled at me, as if we were the victims in all of this.
“If love is a crime,” she whispered, as tears flowed down her face.
Such a terrific performance.
“Then Damien and I deserve to be punished
Everyone suddenly started clapping. Reporters shouted over one another, scrambling to ask more questions, but I didn’t stay to hear them.
I stood up abruptly, pushing my chair back. I was done with this damn conference.
Without a second glance, I walked out.
I couldn’t believe what she had just done.
Then she followed behind me.
“Damien, wait,” she called after me, but I ignored her.
“I just saved your face, and the best you can do is walk away?” she shouted.

I turned, pulling her close to the wall, and pinned her with my hand. Then I punched the wall, making
her flinch.
“What the fuck did you just do?” I screamed.
“This was the only way to salvage the situation. I was just trying to help,” she said.
“Help, really?” I scoffed.
“You know this is all my fault, because it was foolish of me to have thought you were actually trying to help. I should have known that you would do this–typical Cassandra, the one who always had to
show how she cared about no one but herself.”
“I can go in there and clear the air, tell them the truth no one cares to listen to. You tried explaining what happened, but you know it was useless,” she said.
“Shut the damn up. Enough of your theater performance!” I shouted.
Then she slapped me.
“I will not let you insult me, just because I tried to help you,” she said, tears flowing down her cheeks.
“And this is what I get for helping you?”
I clapped for her.
“Brilliant. Excellent performance. You almost got me there. Have you ever considered acting? Because you definitely would fit in perfectly,” I scoffed.
Then a thought came to me as I pinned her against the wall and whispered in her ear,
“Just pray really hard that you had nothing to do with the elevator incident or the missing CCTV footage.”
