Damien POV

“What’s wrong?” Cassandra asked as she tried to remove her hand from my grip, but I refused to let her go. Instead, I dragged her out of the café, only releasing her when we reached my

car.

I opened the door and got in. Cassandra hesitated for a moment before entering the front

seat.

“Why did you just leave like that? You should have let me explain to her,” she said.

But I didn’t reply. I just gripped the steering wheel, my eyes fixed on Julie and the guy she was with.

She was laughing.

With him.

That man.

“Dammit,” I muttered. Seeing her with him completely ruined my mood. Worse still, she was laughing at whatever he was saying, as if she had moved on and forgotten about me.

“Damien, are you even listening?” Cassandra asked. “Do you even want to fix this? Or are you just going to do nothing?”

“We’re holding a press conference,” I said without much thought.

Cassandra looked surprised. “A press conference? Are you serious?”

“Yes,” I said. “The press got me into this mess; I might as well use them to get out of it.”

She stared at me, shaking her head.

“If you say so, but you do know this is risky, right?”

“Yes, I know. Now that you’re done, can you please excuse me? I have somewhere to go.”

She blinked. “What?”

“I said, please leave my car,” I repeated.

“Damien, I didn’t bring my car. I-”

“Then call a cab. I’m not your damn chauffeur,” I snapped.

Cassandra looked at me for a moment as if she had something to say, but she just scoffed and got out of the car.

As she stepped out, I drove off without a second glance.

As I sped down the road, my phone rang. I glanced at the screen-it was my father.

I debated ignoring it, but at the last second, I picked up.

“You finally decided to answer my call after ages of me trying to reach you?”

Yeah, this was sure to be a long conversation.

‘If you called to lecture me, I don’t have time-”

You don’t have time?” he asked..

You don’t have time? Are you serious? But you had time to screw your ex-wife in an elevator?” he said sarcastically.

I stayed silent, fighting the urge to snap at him.

Do you have any idea how much damage that has caused you?” he continued. “Your investors are pulling out, your stocks are dropping like dead flies, and now, on top of everything, your ace is all over the news for screwing in an elevator.”

If you really called to remind me of that, then please hang up, because the press is already doing a damn good job of making sure I don’t forget…”

Oh, please,” he cut me off. “You’ve destroyed the last chance of saving your company. Now what?” He asked. “Are you finally going to do what I say?”

I hung up.

I should have known better than to expect sympathy from my father. He wasn’t calling because he cared-he just wanted to use this as an opportunity to control me, as usual.

By the time I got to my office building, I knew what was waiting for me, but I was only half- prepared for it.

As I entered the boardroom, everyone was murmuring, but they stopped when they saw me.

“Just the man we have been waiting for,” Mr. Carter said.

“You sure do have a lot of explaining to do.”

“I know,” I said as I took a deep breath, wondering where to start.

“You know?” another board member asked. “Do you really have any idea how much our stocks have dropped in just twenty-four hours?”

“You have managed to destroy the little reputation this company had,” another added.

‘Before, we barely had investors, but right now, I am sure no one would want anything to do with us,” another one said.

Then Mr. Carter took the remote and turned on the large screen, displaying the headlines on he monitor:

Billionaire CEO Caught in Elevator Scandal-Business or Pleasure?”

From Partner to Playmate”

The Cupid Love: Cassandra vs. Julie, Who Will Win Damien’s Heart?”

Definitely, Julie, I said in my head.

took a deep breath. Showing this on the screen only added more fuel to the already

>rewing storm.

Mr. Carter looked at me. “You know, if there’s one person I had huge trust in, it was you. I was here to back you up in whatever you did, even when the company was struggling. And now, t feels like a waste of my time, because your recent actions clearly show you don’t value the company,” he said.

What happened was a mistake, and I’m taking care of it,” I said.

A scoff. “Taking care of it? And how do you intend to take care of it?”

I have a plan,” I said,

‘Oh, and what is that superb plan of yours? I’d love to hear about it,” one of them said sarcastically,

I straightened my back.

“Cassandra and I are holding a press conference. We’ll explain what happened, that it was all a misunderstanding, and I will try to find investors for you.”

“And if that doesn’t work? What if the press fails?” Carter pressed.

I hesitated.

“Then we’ll go with the last option.”

“If the press conference fails, what’s the next move?” he asked again, this time a bit curious.

“Are we talking about liquidation?”

“That is not even an option.”

“Then what is?”

I held the table as I looked down. I really didn’t want to say it. “I have a last resort.”

Everywhere was silent, waiting for me to say something.

Carter rolled his eyes. “And what is this last resort?”

I didn’t answer right away.

Because I knew exactly what it was.

And I hope it will never come to that.

My last option was something I had sworn never to do again.

I would have to go to my father.
