Damien POV

As I got out of the shower, I grabbed a towel and dried my wet hair while heading to the wardrobe.
I stared at the clothes, wondering what I should wear. I wanted to look different today because it was special. Today was the day I would tell Julie who Damien truly is.
How was I going to tell her?
I took a deep breath, pushed the thought aside, and pulled out my favorite suit. The deep navy suit complemented my look and fit me perfectly.
After getting dressed, I looked at my watch. There was still time before I met Julie.
Then I remembered something.
quickly grabbed my car keys and drove to a jewelry store. It had been exactly one month since Julie and I made our relationship official, and even though she probably wouldn’t want to make a big deal out of it, I wanted to. She was someone worth making a big deal for.
I scanned the jewelry on display, and my eyes landed on a silver bracelet with a single lily charm. It reminded me of her and how much she loved lilies.
After purchasing the bracelet, I stopped at a florist to pick up fresh lilies. The scent filled the car as I placed them carefully on the passenger seat.
Just as I was about to head to our meeting spot, my phone buzzed.
It was Cassandra.
“This is urgent. The investors need a final wrap-up of the project. We need to meet now, I’m at your company.”
Damn.
I hesitated for a second before texting Julie:
“Something came up with the investors. I might be a little late, or can we reschedule?”
Almost immediately, she responded.
“No. I don’t want to cancel. I’ll meet you at your office instead”
I sighed, running a hand through my hair. The meeting wouldn’t take much time, as we didn’t have much to do.
“Okay. Come by at noon,” I texted her back.
With that settled, I drove straight to the office.
By the time I arrived at the office, Cassandra was already seated in the conference room, looking through some documents.
Without much small talk, we both started working.
And for once, she didn’t make any sly comments or flirtatious gestures; her focus was entirely on work.
She seemed like an entirely different person.
“You know,” I said as I sat down, “this is the side of you I’ve always respected. Maybe this was what I fell for-you were someone who was engrossed in and dedicated to work,” I added, closing the documents.
“Once you put your mind to something, you tend to achieve it, and that has always surprised
me, even now.”
She looked up, surprised by my compliments.
Then she smiled. “Thanks, Damien.”
After a brief pause, I added, “Honestly, aside from your flirtatious gestures, I wouldn’t mind working with you again-strictly professional, of course.”
She chuckled as she arranged her bangs. “I wouldn’t mind working with you again, either.”
“Alright. Where are we?” I asked.
“We’re almost done. We just need to clean up the last section and double-check everything,”
she said.
We worked on that, and we were done in no time.
“Finally done,” I said as I got up, and she stretched her arms.
“Yeah, wasn’t as hard as I expected.” She said while arranging the document
As we entered the elevator, I decided to tease her.

“You still have that thing about working with new people? Is that why you insisted on working alone with me?”
Cassandra rolled her eyes.
“Not really, but I am working on it.”
I chuckled. “It’s funny. I still remember how you used to avoid networking events like the plague.”
She laughed, shaking her head. “And you always dragged me to them anyway.”
For a moment, the conversation felt light, like old times. But then she started talking about awkward old times-like our first kiss, our dates, and the anniversaries we celebrated.
Just as I was about to say something, the elevator suddenly shook, then stopped.
The lights in the elevator went off.
I pressed the button for the next floor. It wasn’t working.
“What the hell?” I muttered, trying the emergency button.
Cassandra said behind me. “Are we stuck?”
I pressed another button. No response.
I began banging on the elevator doors, hoping someone would hear and help us.
I could hear my heart beating faster, and the walls felt like they were closing in.
No. Not now.
Cassandra must have noticed because she turned to me. “You still have claustrophobia?”
I didn’t answer. My breathing was already abnormal. I fell to the ground, holding my chest.
“Damien, look at me,” she said as she knelt beside me and patted my back. “You’re going to be okay. Just breathe; we’re going to get out soon.”
I tried to control myself, but my hands were shaking. My heart felt as if it was going to burst
at any moment.
Then the elevator shook again; this time it felt as if it stumbled, and Cassandra lost her balance, falling right onto me.
I didn’t even feel her weight as she fell onto me, nor did I care about that. Right now, I just

Her body on mine gave me some kind of reassurance, so I held her hands tightly as I muttered.
“Please don’t leave, don’t leave me alone.” I muttered.
She touched my shoulders.
“It’s okay,” she murmured. “Just focus on breathing. It’s just a minor malfunction. We’ll be out
soon.”
I nodded, trying to calm myself down.
Then, the lights came back on, and the elevator doors opened.
Standing outside was Julie, who dropped the flowers she was holding as she saw us.
Behind her was a crowd, and to make matters worse, cameras flashed as paparazzi snapped pictures of Cassandra on top of me.
Julie just put her hand over her lips in shock.
“Shit,” I cursed as I pushed Cassandra away.
