Chapter 25

Aurora's POV

Its Tuesday morning and I'm purposefully lagging around in the bathroom so I don't have to face Wes.

I knew he would be asking questions and for some reason, I didn't want him to know.

I also knew that I had to put on a fake smile for Thomas but that wouldn't be hard. Maybe it would turn into a genuine one.

Sighing, I get out of my cowardly state and walk towards the kitchen where Thomas was happily babbling, tilting his head side to side while... Even if he could talk.

Or... .tried to talk.

"Good morning!" I chirp way too happy and even Thomas looks at me confused.

"Good morning Beeze!" Thomas yells trying to get out of his seat and I giggle, picking him up.

"Hey there buddy." My eyes still felt a little puffy and I could tell he noticed. Wes still hasn't said a word yet.

"Daddy," Thomas calls out and I cringe internally as he turns towards us. "Why didn't you say good morning to Beeze?"

"Good morning." He smiles at me, but its slightly forced. Thomas seemed somewhat satisfied as he lay firm in my hands.

"Thomas, how about you go play with your toys for a second. I wanna talk to Beeze."

"But I don't want to play with my toys." Thomas huffed innocently.

"Yea... plus he's fine right here in my-"

"I'll buy you ice cream later."

"Bye Beeze."

He wiggles to get away from me, and I scoff amused, placing him down on the floor as he runs off.

Wes simply leans against the counter staring at me.

"So?"

"So?" I repeat acting like I didn't know what he was implying.

"What was that last night?"

"What was what?"

"Aurora, please. Not right now, I'm dead serious." I sigh, plopping on the stool.

"My knee was just hurting badly, that's all." I lie and he stares at me like he didn't believe me. "I'm serious."

"Aurora... who was on that call then."

"A friend."

Crap. Why is it so easy to lie!

"You have friends?" He mutters to himself and I gape.

"Of course I have friends!" I yell defensively and he raises his hand in a surrender motion.

"Are you sure... that you know... it was just your knee?"

Just tell him Aurora.

"Yes. ." He stares at me long and hard before nodding.

"Well. . next time can you please just tell me, what's wrong. It wasn't exactly fun watching you break down in front of me." He states walking over and pulling me into his chest.

I nod and I can hear him breathe out.

"You know... I meant what I said." He says and I raise an eyebrow even if he can't see me.

"I love you." He murmurs and I smile sadly.

"I love you too," I said with all my heart. One thought ringing in my head.

I can't do this.
