Chapter 13: Threat
Bethany frowned with disgust. "I know my limits. You don't need to worry about me."
Suddenly, Alvin chuckled lowly. "Your mother's medical expenses are due soon. Behave yourself, and I'll deposit 40,000 dollars into the clinic's account on time. If you don't cooperate, you'll have to figure it out on your own."
Alvin threatened her.
To force her into compliance, he would resort to any dirty tactic.
Unfortunately, this trick worked wonders on Bethany.
Gritting her teeth, Bethany said, "Fine, I'll cooperate. After the party, I'll go stay at Clinton's place."
Alvin laughed satisfactorily. "That's my good girl. I'm doing this for your own good. I just want you to marry Clinton and enjoy life as a wealthy wife."
Bethany felt like throwing up.
Just hearing Alvin's voice over the phone made her imagine his smug face, which was utterly nauseating.
But the worst was yet to come.
Alvin continued, "With the wedding approaching, I should invite my son-in-law over for dinner to bond and discuss your illness. We might need to find foreign experts for you..."
"That's enough." Bethany couldn't take it anymore and interrupted him.
Clutching her phone tightly, her knuckles turned white. "You just want to confirm whether I will sleep with Clinton tonight or not, right? Don't worry, I'll do whatever it takes to keep him under control. But we'll talk about dinner after my art exhibition is over."
Bethany didn't want to waste another word on Alvin. She hung up the phone and leaned against the cold wall, unable to calm her anger for a long time.
He was disgusting.
One day, when she was independent, she would take her mother away from here and escape from Alvin's control.
But for now, the pressing issue was how she and Clinton would proceed with their intimacy.
As she pondered, the door beside her suddenly swung open, and someone grabbed her wrist, pulling her inside.
In the pitch-black room, Bethany was caught off guard as a man pinned her against the wall, causing a sharp pain in her back.
She winced in pain. "Who are you?"
The faint moonlight seeped in through the curtain, barely illuminating the room. Before Bethany could see the man's face, he pressed her against the wall again.
Fear made her tremble.
Bethany instinctively struggled and cried out, "Let go of me. Help."
But the man firmly held her and covered her mouth. "Don't be afraid, it's me."
Bethany immediately recognized the voice. She thought it was Dr. Harper.
She thought, "Not a bad person... Thank goodness."
Bethany breathed a sigh of relief and gradually calmed down. She stopped trembling, but her eyes grew redder as tears streamed down her cheeks, scalding Vincent's hand.
Vincent was taken aback by Bethany's reaction.
He seemed to have gone too far.
"I'm sorry for scaring you," he sighed, feeling a guilt he hadn't noticed before in his tone.
He released his hand covering Bethany's mouth and asked, "You're surprised that I'm here?"
