Chapter 75
Aderyn Point Of View
"What? How's that possible?" Travis was the first to recover.
"Yes, Celeste, how's that possible?"
"It's not. The witches' quarters is highly enchanted, mainly to keep outsiders and those with evil intentions out."
"Then what happened?"
"I'm afraid, Alpha, this was done by one of our own."
Now a stir formed abruptly in my stomach.
"Is something missing?" I asked, slightly having an answer. I just prayed it wasn't any of mother's belongings.
"Yes. The journals from Cora. They're all gone," Helene spoke.
"What?" Dylan reacted, while I remained still in my pumps. "Who is the bloody traitor?"
"We don't know yet, Alpha. But we'll find out, and hopefully get back the journals. We need them."
"Damn. That's just evil. Why would any witch take that?" Travis was clearly as frustrated as every one of us. And he was right—why would anyone take that, unless... fudging hell. My mind ran to the only person I knew that was equally as interested in mother's things. That slimming bitch, Raina.
I tried not choking on her name as I realized something. Whoever the traitor was, they were clearly working with Raina. She knew I was here, and now she had mother's journals. My mind instantly settled on mother's box, and everything in it, and the Phoenix stone; even though I had no idea what any of those meant as of now, Raina and her traitorous mole were never getting those.
I came back to the present. I heard Celeste and Valerie; there was an underground investigation going on in the witches' quarters to uncover the mole. Not everyone in the witches' quarters was aware of this, only the six of us in this room.
"I would rather find the fucking mole my own way," Dylan told the witches.
"Alpha. We are all as pissed as you are. We'll find the mole our way, and once we find the witch of a traitor, death will be the last thing he or she should be worried about."
"Celeste, you are forgetting the damned witch took Cora's journals, and if the traitor is working for Raina, there's no fucking way we'll get them back. I won't spare that bloody mole. The Coven should find out who the traitor is, and so will I." Dylan was beyond angry, and I knew exactly why.
I sighed silently, hoping they would get the traitor. Meanwhile, I needed to get back to my room. As soon as the witches left, I roved to my room.
The instant I busted in, I was greeted by the insane disaster of my room. It was raided. Fuck! Someone had been in here.
"Holy smokes!" I turned to find Dylan staring inside my room. Fuming with intense rage, of course, and probably about to murder someone. "Who the fuck did this to your room?"
I pulled him in, shutting the door. At least that way no one would hear us in my spelled room.
"It's the traitor witch... I guess!" I didn't have to guess at all; I knew the witch would no doubt come here to get the remaining of mother's belongings. Thank goodness, I had it well guarded with some powerful enchantment. Whosoever the witch was, he or she wasn't able to get mother's box.
"Why was the traitor here? If the witch took everything at the witches' quarters, why else would they be here?" Dylan turned to me.
"Because what the witch took isn't everything. I still have mother's box and some of her stuff. Raina also wants those badly. The witch was here for that but thankfully left without a thing."
Dylan heaved out a tired sigh, sitting on the edge of my bed. He looked absolutely horrible, but still in the most gorgeous way. It was obvious he hadn't slept properly for days. I sighed inwardly, remembering my own difficulty.
"Do you have any suspect?" I moved to the bed, sitting right next to him.
"They are witches; I bet the traitor must have covered his or her track, but I swear I'll find that god-damned traitor." Now he was boiling with rage again. "Fuck! Why is all this happening all at once?" He yelled in frustration, running his large fingers through his forest-black hair. I placed my hand on him, resting my head on him.
I closed my eyes thinking, and thanking the heavens nothing important was taken. Yes, mother's journals and notes at the witches' quarters were important as well, but thankfully I had read through them. Whoever the mole was, I had to find out, too. The Crescent Moon was coming soon, and I needed to be ready.
"What are you thinking about?" I heard him say. I still didn't open my eyes, then I felt sparks around me. He put his large, warm, perfect arms around me. I began fighting the urge to lean deeper into him. But unfortunately, I couldn't win; even though logic advised me not to, I still leaned further.
"Everything. The moon is a few days away," I murmured lowly.
"The Crescent Moon... why, what's wrong?"
How could I tell him of the terrible dreams I had been having of him and the pack dying? I just couldn't.
"Isn't it the first time it's appearing since... well, the curse?" I asked him and felt him nod gently. His arm was still around me, and I loved the comfort. I didn't want it to end.
"I'll send someone to clean up the mess," he said.
"There's no need. I'll take care of it myself," I told him, finally pulling myself out of his arms, reluctantly. "Good night." He placed a small kiss on my cheek. His warm eyes met mine, locking gazes with me for an intense, long second. "Good night, mate," he whispered to me, exiting the room.
I breathed out some air, cleaning up my room using my magic. In a few minutes, I was done. I laid on the bed, pulling out mother's note from earlier. I spelled it amongst other books on the nightstand. There was no way the witch could have sensed the magic. While mother's box was safely kept in the only place I can say it was completely safe in—that was Dylan's room.
He didn't even know it was there. I smiled as I kept on reading through the ancient words.
Then came a knock on my door. "Come in."
"Dylan," I said the instant I saw him. He was staring at me with not only his amber, deep eyes but also with his perfect bare chest. He was shirtless.
He had a sly smirk on. My blue eyes walked on his masculine, nude upper half. His broad shoulders, his perfect chest. My eyes kept driving down to his perfectly structured fine abs—damn those muscles—it kept on driving down to his v-line... then a sly cough pulled me out of this ravishing discovery.
"Do you mind if I crash the night here?" His words suddenly surprised me.
"What!" It was sheerly out of surprise.
"I said—" He began with an irritating, divine, and incredulous smile.
"I heard what you said, I just..."
"So?" he asked expectantly, as if knowing my answer already. He had a triumphant smile.
'With that body of yours... Hell yes!' My inner thought roared alive, while I kept staring at him blankly. Instantly, my brain and logic rebuked.
'You can't agree to this, Aderyn. What happened to "I'll stay farthest away from him"?' That was my reasoning.
'Well, fuck that! It's a yes for me,' my inner thought countered.
'That's fucking temptation, Aderyn. A giant "No" should be applied in this case.'
"Enough!" I yelled in my mind, returning my focus to Dylan, who, surprisingly, was already on my bed.
"Dylan! I didn't say yes."
"Well, you didn't say no either, right?" He made himself comfortable, leaning his head on a pillow. "Is that one of Cora's?"
I nodded, shutting the book. I suddenly felt like having a rest.
A creepy smile stalked his lips as I lay next to him on the bed. "Stop it, Dylan. You look like a creep." I laughed at him.
His smile deepened, looking more sexy. "I highly doubt that." He sucked in the gap between us, his large arms all around me, causing me to gasp in surprise at his sudden action. Well, this was surprising and a little awkward.
'And cozy, too,' came my inner thought. I ignored her, locking eyes with Dylan, who just shrugged innocently.
"Good night, princess," he said with a smile that cut off all the flow of blood to my brain. I got lost in it. A throaty chuckle escaped him as he placed a kiss on my forehead, and I didn't push him away.
"So, you always sneak into your girlfriends' beds at night... naked, kissing them?" I made myself comfortable on my bed.
He released a soothing chuckle again. "First off, I never had girlfriends and—"
I had to cut off his lie. "Ha. As if... tell me, Mr. 'I never had girlfriends,' who then is Selena, Ruby, Cassy, Sophie..." I was about to go on with the names of ladies I had heard he messed around with.
"How do you know about Cassy? And Sophie? Who told you about them?" He was up on his elbows.
"So much for denying you didn't have girlfriends." Now it was my turn to chuckle, even though deep down I felt a little rage poking me at the mention of these ladies and many more I heard he had "flings" with.
Dylan laughed with smiles in his eyes. "You caught me, but in my defense, I didn't have anything serious with them. They were merely she-wolves who threw themselves at me, and I didn't reject them. Although, I wished I had, if I knew I would be meeting someone like you. I would have waited," he said gently. So much emotion broke through his unreadable gaze, and I saw something so raw and tender in it. "I wished I had waited, princess." His hand picked mine up in his, and he began caressing it, placing subtle kisses on it. "I'm sorry I didn't." He locked his perfect amber eyes with mine.
I felt the pleasuring chill and shivers that sparked in me at his every word and touch. I felt something good deep within my bones,
although I didn't deserve it. Slowly, I removed my hand from his.
