Chapter 44
Finn stood at the edge of the cove, where the jagged rocks jutted out into the crashing waves of the ocean. The moon hung high above, casting a silvery light over the swirling water, but all he could see was the darkness that weighed heavily upon him. He felt a storm brewing inside, tempestuous and wild, as if the very sea mirrored his turmoil.
“It was supposed to be ours,” he seethed through clenched teeth, his voice a low growl barely carried by the wind. The words were directed at the reflection of the moon on the water, a bitter acknowledgment of dreams dashed against the sharpness of reality. “She was supposed to be mine! All of it… the power, the passion, the control!”
A furious impulse surged through him as he kicked a stone into the water. The sudden splash echoed loudly, a feeble attempt to redirect the violence that crackled in his veins. “Damn you, Lilith!” he yelled, his voice splitting the night with raw anguish. “You think you can just walk away? Just throw me aside like I’m nothing?”
When he thought of her refusal, the refusal that had unleashed this cyclone of fury, it ignited something primal within him. Finn turned his gaze to the horizon, fists shaking at his sides. *Every moment we spent together, every promise whispered in the dark—it was all a lie.* The betrayal cut deeper than the sharpest blade.
He took a step back, pacing the narrow ledge, his mind racing through the events that had led to this moment. Thrusting his fingers through his disheveled hair, he cursed himself for being so foolish. He had believed they were meant to be. “I thought I could offer her a way out, a chance for power,” he spat, the bitterness pooling in his throat. “I thought I could make her see that we could rule together!”
But no—she had recoiled in fear, as if he were the very monster she had once flaunted. The memory of her gaze—wide, terrified, betrayed—burned deep in his mind. *How could she not see?* “I was willing to risk everything for you!” he shouted, the sound crashing against the rocks like the waves that pounded the shore. “I came to take you away from this mundane life, and you turned me down without a second thought!”
The sting of rejection boiled in his chest, igniting a wildfire that pooled at the base of his throat. Finn balled his fists until his nails dug into his palms, the pain grounding him momentarily. “You’re nothing without me, Lilith!” he spat, pacing like a feral creature cornered by its enemy. “You think you can stand alone? You think you can reclaim what was never yours?”
Finn felt the pulse of fury swelling within, an insatiable beast demanding release. “I’ll make you see, just you wait!” With each breath, he conjured images of her face contorted in confusion and fear, the moment he had tried to drag her away from the house she clung to—her home, her security—and she had pushed him back, her eyes fierce with defiance.
“Who the hell do you think you are?” he screamed into the empty night, as if the echoes of his rage might summon her back to him. “I offered you everything! A chance to escape the shadows, to ascend above the depths of mediocrity! And you rejected me like I was a scrap of refuse!”
He felt the heat coursing through his body, wanton and uncontrolled. What would it take to break through her stubborn walls? He grabbed a loose rock, hurling it with all his might against a nearby cliff, watching it shatter against the stone and tumble into the depths below. “Why can’t you understand? I’m the only one who can give you power! The only one who can help you claim your birthright!”
Finn stepped closer to the edge of the rocks, feeling the spray of the ocean mist against his face. The tumultuous waves crashed like the storm in his chest, but terror wasn’t what he felt; it was emboldening, liberating. He thrived on the chaos. “You think this is just a game, don’t you?” he ground out, rage bubbling inside like magma threatening to erupt. “You think you can play these foolish games with me? You’re wrong!”
But it wasn’t just Lilith. No, it was Kent, too. That smug, self-righteous bastard—Finn could still hear his laugh echoing in his head, ringing with mockery. Kent who had stood before him, tongue sharper than a knife, belittling him for his ambition, his desire to take Lilith. “You think you can shame me? You think you can throw me off like I’m some pathetic fish caught in your net?”
Finn felt white-hot anger igniting anew at the mere thought of Kent. The merman had laughed openly, eyes gleaming with mirth, talking down to Finn as if he were some underling in this ruthless world they inhabited. “You don’t belong in her world!” Kent had taunted, a contemptuous smirk plastered across his face. “You’ll never have her, Finn! You’re not fit to breathe the same water!”
Finn’s vision darkened. He couldn’t afford to be mocked. He wouldn’t be ridiculed again. “I’ll make you pay,” he hissed venomously, the words slipping through his teeth like poison. “I’ll show you who’s worth something in this damned world! I won’t be made a fool of by either of you!”
With a primal scream, Finn lunged forward, throwing himself against the rocks, colliding painfully with one; his breaths coming quick and sharp. Rage flowed through him like a tidal wave, leaving no room for clarity. “If they won’t kneel before me; if they won’t acknowledge my power, then I’ll take it by force!”
A surge of adrenaline coursed through him as he wrestled with the desire for violence. He wanted to unleash himself, to tear through everything that stood in his way. He imagined Kent’s face, full of arrogance, before he and that detestable little smirk vanished beneath the waves. Finn could picture the betrayal etched into Lilith’s features when she witnessed what he was capable of—a tempest unleashed not just in the sea but in the very fabric of their world.
“Let them come to me!” he roared, the echoes of his voice swallowed by the crashing surf. “I’m done giving in to their betrayals! I’m done being the punching bag of their mockery!”
He grabbed another stone, hefting it in his hand, rage propelling him forward. The waves raged higher as he hurled the rock into the depths with all of his strength, watching as it sank beneath the water, taking the last remnants of his patience with it. “What do they know of power? What do they know of the darkness that gives me strength?”
He felt the energy within him crackle, pulsating like a living entity, and he could barely contain it. *You can’t stop me,* he thought, a fire igniting in his heart, flames licking at the edges of his sanity. “I’ll show them. I will rise, and they will bow. They will see what I’m capable of!”
The moon shone down, illuminating the shrine of his fury. Finn spread his arms wide, inviting the very storm to engulf him. “Bring it on!” he yelled into the night, thrusting challenges toward the horizon, where the darkness lay thick and plentiful. “Kent! Lilith! Come at me! I will break you both!”
The cold air stung his lungs, but he welcomed every drop of agony that wrapped around him. He sank to his knees, gazing into the roiling water, its intensity mirroring the chaos in his mind. “What have I become?” he asked himself, his voice wavering with a mixture of hatred and determination.
A laugh flickered through the shadows—a specter of Lilith, haunting him, taunting him. “You think those bursts of rage will earn you anything?” it whispered, sending chills cresting down his spine. "You think you can possess me?”
Finn balled his fists tightly. *Stop!* he commanded himself. *Stop filling your mind with her echoes. Stop allowing her to dictate your worth!*
He slammed his fist into the rock beneath him, and pain shot up his arm, an exhilarating reminder that he was alive. “I’ll not be broken!” he bellowed into the furious night, blood pooling on his knuckles, feeling the warmth seeping out, mingling with the saltwater. “I will rewrite this fate! I own the dark; it bows to me!”
Driven by the boiling chaos in his veins, he stood tall, chest heaving with determination. He would claim what was rightfully his. They could laugh, but that would soon turn to terror when they realized he wasn’t just a simple merman with dreams—he was the storm that had finally unleashed its fury.
“I’ll drag Lilith into the depths!” he vowed. “I’ll drown Kent in despair! They will know my name! They will fear me!”
Finn’s heart thundered with every word, every thought solidifying into a fierce desire. He lifted his face toward the heavens, a fierce grin forming, wild and reckless in the moonlight. “Let the chaos rise! I embrace it! I am the storm! I am Finn!”
With every pulse of rage and yearning for revenge, he harnessed the dark energy swirling within him, ready to unleash it upon the world that had betrayed him. He could feel the currents of fate beginning to shift, and as the waves crashed behind him, it felt like an echo of his power manifesting.
“Yes,” he whispered, reveling in the violent
promise of what lay ahead. “This is just the beginning.”
