Chapter 47 Camilla, don't drive me crazy
Danieru was now running along the sidewalk, looking everywhere, searching for Camilla, who had disappeared. The rain was pouring down, soaking him to the bone. He had already checked Camilla's rented room, but he couldn't find her.
Worry pulled him to keep walking, searching for her. Regret made Danieru even more tormented. He wanted Camilla now, he wanted her back in his arms.
'Camilla, don't drive me crazy.'
Danieru continued running, heading towards the garden, checking every corner for the love of his life. But... even though he searched diligently, he couldn't find Camilla.
'Camilla... please, don't hide from me.'
Danieru stopped, staring at the sky, which was still crying. Damn... now the worry was suffocating him even more. He took another step; he really had to hurry and check somewhere else right now.
Danieru decided to check the narrow alleys, hoping to spot Camilla and bring her back. He ran between two tall buildings, exploring the narrow alleys, and stopped when he reached a dead end.
Danieru had checked every different alley and every possible hiding place for Camilla, but he had failed just as many times.
He chose to sit at the bus stop, staring out at the somewhat deserted street. Where was Camilla? This was the second time he had lost her, and twice he had sat at the bus stop to think about her.
Danieru lowered his head, holding it in both hands, and closed his eyes. The cold was no longer there, and he had even forgotten that all his clothes were wet.
'Where are you, Camilla?'
Danieru sighed; he couldn't go to the police station again. The police even had a hard time showing CCTV footage when he asked this afternoon.
"Are you really a man named Danieru?"
Danieru was quite surprised to hear someone ask and call his name. He raised his head and saw a man in his fifties or sixties standing there holding a black umbrella.
"Who are you?" Danieru asked.
The man smiled and then looked at Danieru more intently. "I'm Marcus, the right-hand man of the Golden Snake leader."
Hearing the name Golden Snake made Danieru frown. He didn't know what business the right-hand man of the leader of a large and well-known company would be looking for him.
"I'm not interested in talking about business, and I'm not the head of the parent company." Danieru stood up; he didn't have much time to talk about business right now.
His mind was in complete disarray, and he felt like he was on the verge of going crazy, having lost track of Camilla. He knew that Golden Snake had long wanted to collaborate with them, and his father had always refused without any clear reason.
"Mr. Danieru, I don't want to talk about work either. I saw your wife. She left with a long-haired man, and she didn't seem to be doing well."
The man named Marcus's words successfully made Danieru change his mind about leaving. The man quickly looked at Marcus. He needed to know where he had seen his wife, and he was clearly worried when he heard that Camilla had been taken by someone.
Now he had no reason to stay away from him; he needed information. He, already some distance away from Marcus, turned around and glared at the man.
"Where did you see her?" Danieru asked.
"I accidentally saw her around the City of Dreams." Marcus remained standing in the same position, not moving an inch.
Danieru, hearing Marcus's answer, prepared to leave. He couldn't think straight at the moment.
"Wait," Marcus said again.
Danieru changed his mind again and looked at Marcus. What was going on this time?
"I can take you to find her," Marcus said. He offered to help, and then looked at Danieru.
Danieru thought again, he should accept this offer, and they could quickly track Camilla down. Relying on himself would be impossible.
“Okay,” Danieru replied.
Marcus, who received a satisfactory answer, immediately stepped away. Danieru followed the man, and they both got into the same car.
Danieru still didn't understand why Marcus had suddenly said that to him, but he was sure it was to get their company to cooperate with Golden Snake.
"I can't repay you for this kindness, so don't ask me for anything strange."
"You're too bad at judging people," Marcus commented.
Danieru ignored the man's words. He also didn't care why Marcus was helping him. He certainly wouldn't have thought much about it if it was Camilla.
While Danieru was lost in thought, he was surprised to see Marcus hand him a towel and dry clothes.
"What's wrong?" Danieru asked.
"Dry yourself off and change."
Danieru immediately took what Marcus had offered him. "Stop, I need to find a place to change."
"No need, you can change in the car."
Just as Danieru was about to protest, a barrier suddenly blocked his and Marcus's line of sight. The man swallowed hard. He knew that many things were sophisticated, but he didn't know that a regular car could be so sophisticated if it belonged to the Golden Snake.
"Hurry, or you'll get sick."
The man's voice made Danieru immediately take off all his clothes and dry himself with a towel. He even realized that the car was moving without a driver.
"Did you fight with your wife?" Marcus asked suddenly.
Danieru, hearing the question, stopped drying his hair, completely at a loss for an answer. He also realized that the beginning of all this was also his fault.
He had upset Camilla in the morning, and then she had gotten angry and run away from him. When he found Camilla, he was even more upset, and ended up slapping his wife.
"That's always the case in a household, but it's not good for a man to hurt a woman."
Danieru remained silent, unable to respond to what Marcus had said. The man continued his activities, and before long, he was done.
The barrier was gone, and he could see the man named Marcus.
“Where are we going?” Danieru asked.
“To meet your wife,” Marcus replied.
Danieru widened his eyes, not understanding what Marcus meant.
“Your wife is with the leader of the Golden Snakes. I was tasked with taking you to where they are resting now.”
Now Danieru was completely baffled. How could Camilla be with the old man's superior? He didn't know what was going on, but he felt like he was being toyed with.
"Don't think badly of me. We were just helping out, fulfilling our duty."
Danieru stared in confusion. "How could my wife be with the leader of the Golden Snakes?"
Marcus stared at Danieru. The man smiled, and honestly, that smile made Danieru's mind even more confused. Were they being kidnapped? Was this because the Golden Snakes wanted to threaten their father, and were collaborating through dirty means?
"You've kidnapped the wrong people," Danieru said in a low voice. The man stared intently, his face expressionless.
"Kidnapping?" Marcus echoed.
Danieru clenched his fist and immediately threw a punch at Marcus.
Marcus, knowing Danieru was about to attack, quickly caught Danieru's fist. The man glared at him and squeezed Danieru's hand.
Krek ...
The voice rang out, and Danieru winced. The man tried to free his hand from Marcus's grip, but it wasn't as easy as he'd thought.
"I don't want to use violence, but kidnapping people isn't our style."
Danieru didn't answer, but when Marcus released his hand, he felt relieved.
"Stay still, we're not that lowly." Marcus returned his gaze to the front, no longer paying attention to Danieru beside him.
Danieru, having received Marcus's warning, was unable to move. He had to restrain himself; he couldn't act rashly. The man before him was no ordinary person, and his hand was in so much pain he couldn't even move it.
"Your bone is broken," Marcus said.
Danieru didn't answer; it didn't matter; all that mattered now was his wife.
He would endure the pain and think of a way to escape with Camilla when he had the chance. Even now, Danieru still thought they were involved in a kidnapping case, and he still didn't trust Marcus.
Meanwhile, Marcus, who clearly understood Danieru's thoughts, chose to remain silent. He didn't care what Danieru was planning. He was simply doing his job, and that was enough.
The car Danieru and Marcus were in sped along, the air inside warm, with the soothing scent of autumn forest spices.
