Chapter 13 What about me?
The atmosphere in the room was very quiet, everyone sat enjoying warm tea. They didn't speak, and the family relationship seemed very cold.
Camilla, now sitting close to Danieru, felt awkward, feeling uncomfortable with everyone busy with their own affairs.
As for Danieru, he seemed oblivious to his own family's behavior. This had been a daily occurrence since he was little, and it certainly wasn't something that bothered him.
Camilla looked again; there were now four people with her and Danieru, and the only person who had spoken to her before was an old man, none other than Danieru's grandfather. The others were a man named Hatsu, Danieru's father, and Danieru's mother.
"Ahem!" Camilla cleared her throat, and everyone's gaze focused on her.
"I-I," Camilla said quietly. She felt nervous as all eyes were on her, as if she were in court.
"I need to go to the restroom," the woman said again.
Danieru, hearing Camilla's excuse, immediately stood up. He extended his hand and smiled at the woman. “I’ll show you, but you should use the restroom in my room.”
“Why do you have to go to your room? Isn’t there another restroom I can use?” the woman asked.
Danieru exhaled softly. “Do you want to be on par with the servants in this house? I’m sure Father-in-law would lecture me if I let his beloved daughter use the same bathroom as the servants.”
Hearing Danieru's words, Camilla chose to smile. The man was truly making her uncomfortable, and she couldn't resist anymore.
"Go now, I give my blessing to your marriage."
At that, Camilla, who was just about to stand up, changed her mind. She looked at the man who had been focused on the tablet in his hand. The man looked similar to Danieru, perhaps even like two peas in a pod.
"You're the daughter of the Alistair family leader, and I know your father well. We have no reason to reject you as our son-in-law," the man said again.
Danieru immediately took Camilla's hand; he had been patient enough with his father's unfair treatment.
"Perhaps the firstborn is more precious than the second. Camilla, forgive my husband's behavior." Finally, Danieru's mother spoke up. She looked at her husband and immediately averted her gaze to Danieru.
"When will you get married?" the woman asked again.
"The day after tomorrow," Danieru replied.
Camilla's eyes widened when she heard Danieru's answer. She grabbed his hand. "Y-you?"
Danieru, who had turned to look at Camilla, simply smiled. "We're getting married the day after tomorrow. I don't want to delay the big day."
Bang!!!
The sound of the table being slammed was loud, and Camilla immediately grabbed Danieru's hand. She was shocked, and frankly, scared.
“How much trouble do you want to cause, Danieru? Starting today, you've been disrupting your brother's soon-to-be-wife's boutique. News about you and your lover has eclipsed news about your own brother. And now... you want to get married on the same day as your own brother.”
“Father, I have the right to marry too. Do you want me to impregnate Camilla out of wedlock?” Danieru asked without any hesitation.
“Y-you?”
“What about me?” Danieru asked his father. He looked at him innocently, and Camilla, seeing this, didn't know what to say.
“Whatever! I won't be attending the wedding,” said the man, who was none other than Danieru's biological father.
Danieru, hearing this, simply smiled. He then took Camilla's hand and rejoiced as she stood up.
"Okay, since this marriage has been approved, we will get married as scheduled."
Camilla stared at Danieru, not realizing that the Malaike family, known for its harmony, was merely a facade. She felt her fate and Danieru's were almost the same, and she understood why Danieru had considered her a friend.
"Thank you for letting us get married," Camilla said. She smiled softly, even as her gaze accidentally met the man named Hatsu's. At a glance, Camilla saw that Danieru and Hatsu were very different.
"Danieru, I will attend your wedding."
Danieru, hearing his mother's words, smiled back. "No, because I don't want anyone to do something bad to you again."
Camilla felt envious in this way; Danieru had such a loving mother. She released Danieru's hand and faced her future mother-in-law.
"Camilla," the woman reprimanded.
"Ah... I don't know what to call you."
Danieru stared at Camilla, observing her every movement.
"You can call me Mother; you will be my daughter too."
“Okay, I’ll call you that. So… Mom, I don’t want any trouble. You don’t need to come. After the wedding, Danieru and I will visit you again.”
“You’re a good girl, but how could you fall in love with a man like that brat?” Danieru’s father asked.
Camilla was irritated by the man’s behavior. “Of course, I like Danieru, who’s so gentle and caring. Even my father really likes Danieru.”
"What does your father like about him? He's not the one who's going to inherit all my wealth."
Camilla hadn't expected her future father-in-law to be so annoying. She glanced at Danieru, and she could see that he was holding back his emotions. She quickly took Danieru's hand and smiled.
"Father likes him because he's a gentleman. In fact, during our three years together, he and Danieru often did many activities together. He said that Danieru would be a good and responsible son. He even planned to give all of Alistair's family assets to Danieru if he married me. So... my father has complete trust in him, and I'm sure Danieru is the right man." Camilla deliberately poured salt water on him, taking great pleasure in offending someone who was so heartless, even making such a clear distinction between the two siblings.
Actually, there were still plenty of solutions if their weddings were on the same day. If only her future father-in-law were wise, the old man would have said that his and Danieru's wedding would be celebrated simultaneously with Hatsu and Rachel's, and of course, at the same venue.
Danieru immediately pulled Camilla over, placing her beside him. "Honey, let's go back now. I have a fishing trip with Father-in-law."
"Okay, I have to make some provisions for you and Dad too." Camilla smiled again, looking so comfortable around Danieru.
"Mom, if you'll excuse me." Camilla flashed her sweet smile again.
"I'm going," Danieru said.
Camilla and Danieru then left the room, quickly headed to the parking lot, and got into the car.
“You seem to really hate that useless old man,” Camilla said.
“Thanks for slapping that damn man in the face so many times.”
Camilla blinked a few times. “I asked a question and you said thank you. Come on, answer my question.”
Danieru stared. “Kitty, what if the reward for your hard work today is a steamy romance?”
“I’LL HIRE A GIGOLO, PLAYING WITH YOU DOESN’T SATISFIED ME!” Camilla asserted in a rather loud voice. Luckily, the car windows were closed, and the sound didn’t reach the outside.
Danieru, hearing this, immediately started the car. He couldn’t help but laugh at Camilla’s disheveled face.
“A woman like you would be very useful as an actress in a feature film.”
“So would you,” Camilla replied.
“Okay, let’s pretend we’re in a movie now.”
Camilla rolled her eyes in exasperation, leaned back as comfortably as possible, and closed her eyes. Sleeping better now, hopefully Danieru doesn't bother him.
