Chapter 42: Winsome Together
“Maa Paa”
Sophia in state of agitation, spoke in a muffled voice, precipitation covering her forehead and eyes shut tightly.
“I need you.”
This time around her voice contained sobs in it.
Slowly she opened her eyes, to let the realization hit her that she is in the identical bedroom, where she woke up earlier this morning, now with a lamp lightning next to her head in a coffee table and a duvet covering her body.
Sitting herself upright, she casted a brief look out of the window and still found sky blanketed with darkness and moon playing in between clouds.
‘Noah must have brought me hear.’
Sophia assumed, because from what she can recall before falling asleep is that she was in the library.
She felt a need to converse Noah about her future plans, she pushed herself off the bed, freshen up and made an exit off the room in search of her save for a rainy day.
“Where is Noah?”
Sophia asked, when she saw the very same old woman from the morning working in kitchen.
“Sir is in his study. I will guide you the way but would like to suggest you to enter only after he grants you the permission to.”
Sophia nodded her head to indicate agreement and started to walk at the rear of the old lady.
Showing the room, Lily, the house keeper of the mansion walked off, while inhaling a long cold, deep breath Sophia walked to the door.
She was about to give a soft knock to the Sal door, to have a discussion with the evil rich sitting in when she realized the door opened ajar and peeking in, she found herself enthralled by the scene at her front.
Noah was ensconcing oneself behind the large mahogany table, working with his glasses on and messy dark thick hairs that were falling and covering his forehead.
Like Sophia was profoundly engrossed in some artist’s creation that have had her mesmerized to the expanse where she was not able to take her eye off of him.
“You exclusively have all the rights reserved to look at your husband as long as you wish for, but I would suggest you to walk in, sit and ogle at me.”
Noah spoke lazily, unaccompanied by lifting his lids from the documents he was reviewing.
For this reason, Sophia never fancied marry him, she knew very well that by living under one roof, she would loose her sanity and will slowly begin to fall for his charm, as she did in the past.
Fall for a lust driven maniac, a liar, a deceiver, who ruined every beautiful thing they had in between them.
Clearing her throat, she questioned.
“May I enter?”
“With all respect, please do so, darling.”
Eventually, taking his eyes off the sheets, Noah spoke smiling like a devil.
Rose-cheeked because of her being caught literally ogling at her own husband, Sophia took slow steps so as to make an entry to the room.
“Please, have a seat.”
Noah instructed Sophia who instantly dragged a chair to rest her butt.
“Actually not there. I meant here.”
Sophia looked at Noah’s direction, who had his both arms stretched indicating her to sit on his lap.
The crimson red, colour of tomatoes, spreading across Sophia’s cheeks, darkened in the shade and Sophia instantly spoke.
“I would like to settle myself in chair.”
Completing her sentence, Sophia plopped in the chair and Noah smiled looking at her, as if teasing her is his recently developed divertissement.
“So? My what good deed won your visit?”
“I want to talk to you about something.”
Sophia finally established a room of discussion related to her future.
“Well, same hoes with me but you go first.”
Noah responded.
“Actually the thing is, I got bored staying at home all by myself.”
“I didn’t knew you would miss me to this extent, the very first day. Apologies for being ignorant.”
Noah interrupted her passing his devilish smile, but shutting her eye to his sarcasm, Sophia continued herself.
“I want to re-join gallery.”
Tic-tok, tic-tok; the clock at the back of Sophia, hanging in the wall moved swiftly in a certain motion along with the beats of her heart, which contradictorily ran wildly, afraid of some unknown fear.
Fear that he might never let her re-join, or may look down at what she used to be, or may insult her small earned money in front of what he earns which is more than enough for both of them.
Clutching her wedding ring in between the tips of her right index and thumb, which was more pressurising her heart now, she pursed her lips into a thin line, waiting for his reply.
After done with being in deep thought and calculating certain things, Noah finally spoke.
“Before that, I would appreciate if you complete your hanging course.”
For sometime, Sophia was not even able to process what he meant.
“This is what I wanted to talk to you.”
Noah spoke, taking his glasses off and letting his back relax on the chair post.
“I don’t want to continue with my studies anymore, I don’t wish to. It have been a long time and really difficult for me to restart from where I left.”
“Look Sophia, I am certain that you are naturally talented and everyone appreciated your work at gallery, but I don’t wish you to be tied up to the very post of assistant sculptor, and wish you to grow beyond that. But for that you will have to work hard.”
“Noah, I don’t want to. You need to stop slapping your wishes on my face.”
Sophia spoke in a stern voice, raising her voice beyond Noah’s acceptance.
“I’ll enrol you to the college.”
Noah spoke in a voice as calm as sea, as if Sophia’s anger never crawled to his ears.
“I don’t wish to jump back to my student life.”
“End of discussion.”
Saying his part, Noah stood up from his chair and started to walk out of the study when he heard a small voice from his back.
“I don’t have enough money to study.”
As soon as those words hit Noah’s ears, he turned back to Sophia and let out an audible warm exhale and stared down at her.
One week later, Sophia discovered herself sitting in the passenger seat in Noah’s car, with him besides her with steering wheels in his control.
She was staring vacantly at the university at the front of her eyes, with zero wish to enter it.
After thousands of argue and discussions; of course discussion in eyes of Noah which was again an argument in eyes of Sophia, she was finally pushed and knocked at the gate of her classes and get a proper degree.
“I must say, what a beautiful place, Norfolk University.”
“Why don’t you enrol yourself to show some of your love to the beauty?”
Infuriated, Sophia voiced out her thoughts.
Noah chuckled and looked at the direction of Sophia. Unbuckling his seat beat, he inclined himself extremely near Sophia and spoke in a dangerously low voice.
“As much as I love your quite phase, I am crazy about your feisty side.”
Sophia as if contemplated, kept on looking at his face, to be specific his deep gray orbs. Seconds later, she travelled out of those beholding eyes and giving him a push, got down from the car and walked in the university.
Weeks passed and Sophia adjusted in a slow pace in her new environment. On the other hand, Noah got busy with his new branch establishment in Maryland, but he never missed a single time when he was free and spent those precious moments with Sophia.
Whenever they both were unoccupied by work, he loved to spend every invaluable second with her. Their meeting area were different, sometimes it is garden or sitting area or his study where they both were indulged in their own respective works and above all meeting points bedroom, Noah’s favourite where he exploited and explored Sophia within his limits, which even Sophia begin to enjoy slowly.
One fine day of such, Sophia returned to mansion from university and walked straight to her room which was enshrouded with darkness as always.
She begin to unbutton her dress when she felt an strong arm snaking around her waist and by single whiff of spicy masculine cologne, she knew who it was.
“How was your day beautiful?”
Noah asked tightening his grip around her waist and sniffling her sweet intoxicating fragrance.
“It-it was fine.”
Sophia found it difficult to concentrate because of constant Noah’s mouth lingering and kissing over her neck.
“Any problem with academics?”
Noah threw another question to the Sophia’s end with his voice muffled.
“No.”
Sophia spoke closing her eyes and throwing her head back, mind fogged in deep desire.
“Anyone troubling you?”
Noah again asked as if to find his perfect place in her neck, he was asking her irrelevant questions as an excuse.
But when Sophia heard his question, the mind that was blank moments ago came back to conscious and body that had relaxed in Noah’s arm went stiff.
Even Noah observed these changes in her and stopped at his action but never removed his head from her neck.
“Actually, I have received a hand written note, saying he/she wants to meet me and have a chat regarding this marriage of ours.”
Listening to Sophia’s narration, Noah went still, as if recalling darkest past of his.
