Chapter 116
"It better not, that would be really awkward if I tried to ruffle your bald ass head instead of your hair," I commented and he scrunched his face in disgust at the thought.
"You two are weirddd," Connor giggled. Asmodeus and I looked back up at each other and broke into laughter. You know it's bad when a three year old calls you weird.
"Watch it, little dude," Asmodeus playfully warned, poking at Connor's stomach and making him giggle again.
"Are you my daddy?" Connor asked him innocently. Asmodeus and I looked at each other again with wide eyes. He looked too taken aback to respond.
"No, sweetie. This is your Uncle Asmodeus," I answered, and his mouth formed an 'O'. I could tell he was kind of sad at this news, and it hurt my heart a little.
"Hm," Asmodeus thought casually, "'uncle Asmodeus' doesn't have the same ring as 'daddy'." When he said this I almost choked on my ice cream, and when I looked back up at him he did the goddamn wiggling-caterpillar thing with his eyebrows again.
"Why did I chose you? I mean I literally could have chosen any other guy at that school," I joked, making fun of him.
"Oh? Well isn't someone conceited," he grinned back. "Beg to differ- I wouldn't have let that happen," he countered.
"Oh please, like I would care what you said I could or could not do," I replied, and a smirk spread across his lips.
"I know you wouldn't, which is why I always would scare them away from you instead of vise-versa," he responded and I narrowed my eyes at him.
"What?" I chuckled and narrowed my eyes. "You're telling me that there were other guys at our school that liked me?"
"Duh, I mean- have you seen you? Most teenage boys wouldn't be able to keep it in their pants," he said and I gave him a shocked expression, laughing. "I, on the other hand, was the opposite. I actually cared about you and could keep it in my pants."
"Yeah, well.. that didn't last very long," I joked back and chuckled at his expression. "Kade was nice to me the first day and actually cared about me, why didn't I just go for him? I could have avoided your weird-ass eyebrow wiggle."
"Kade's notorious for either friend zoning people or pulling a hit and run.. also you would have lost countless brain cells each minute you spent with him," he explained.
"You're so mean to him," I chuckled. "You know, without Kade the only thing we probably would have shared was that Gatorade."
"Eh," he shrugged it off. "He knows I love him.. see, I'm an asshole to the people I don't like, and I'm mean to the people I love- there's a big difference," he explained, and I sarcastically nodded in understanding.
"I need to go potty," Connor frowned, and I looked down at him, then back up at Asmodeus. He could not have looked more unwilling to do something.
"You're the mom in this family," he tried to get out of it, but I wasn't going to let him.
"Exactly, I pushed him out of my baby-hole instead of finishing high school thanks to you, the least you can do is take him to the damn bathroom," I went along with the fake family skit we had going on. A few onlookers shot us weird looks, particularly in his direction. I tried not to giggle at this.
"I never should have knocked you up," he grunted and took Connor's hand in his to walk him to the bathroom. I couldn't keep in my laugh at that one. I had never seen him get such disapproving looks by middle-aged white women, and that was saying something..
As I was waiting there by myself, I looked around at everything around me. And for a second, just a split second, I thought I saw something that made my stomach knot. Some one.
Someone I never thought I would have to see again.
But it was only a split second, and then he was gone. It was probably a hallucination, or just someone that looked like him.
While I was frantically looking around for him again, Asmodeus and Connor reappeared at the table. I guess I had lost track of time.. it only felt like they were gone for a second.
"Hey- what's wrong?" Asmodeus asked, noticing my frazzled state. I continued to look around and shook my head, confused more than anything.
"Nothing, I just," I furrowed my brows. "It's nothing," I faked a smile up to him, trying to shake the thought from my mind.
"Okay then," he responded, clearly confused. "Is she acting weird to you?" He asked down at Connor, who nodded absentmindedly, his thumb in his mouth.
"I'm not weird, you're weird," I smiled evilly and tickled Connor's stomach, making him giggle and squeal. "We should probably go," I looked back up at Asmodeus, who nodded.
"This kind of made me miss Jake," Asmodeus commented as we walked back to the car. "I feel like in no time he's going to be an annoying, irritable teenager," he kicked some rocks as we went along
"I mean, he does take after you," I joked, and he shot me a glare.
"Very funny," he looked around us, taking in the scenery. I couldn't help but smile down at Connor as he trotted along beside us.
After we dropped Connor back off at Cassidy's, we got some food at that good burger place and took it back to my dorm room. Ali was spending the night at her friends' house, so Asmodeus and I ate our food and watched terrible horror movies on my computer.
Although, once we finished our food, we didn't exactly watch the screen.
By the time I fell asleep in his arms, I had forgotten all about who I thought I saw at the park... besides, Milo had been gone for good. It wouldn't make sense for him to show up now.
I smiled to myself as I breathed in Asmodeus's familiar scent and slipped into a warm, comfortable sleep.
