The Law Affairs
Chapter Thirty Seven: The Law Affairs
“You’re glowing, bestie,” Prince exclaimed, pulling Aiden into a quick, excited hug. “Two weeks, and you already look like you’ve stepped out of a dream.”
Merrick swept into the room with a dramatic bow. “Welcome back, the hottest couple in town.”
Laughter bubbled around the room, the warmth of reunion filling every corner.
“You two must have had the time of your lives in Paris. Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if Aiden got pregnant after this trip,”
Grants teased with a grin, earning chuckles from the group.
They all gathered around the dinner table, swapping stories and updates.
Aiden shared bits of their Parisian adventure…moments of quiet joy, stolen kisses, and even the shadow lurking behind their vacation.
“So,” Fiona leaned toward Aldrich with a sly smile, “have you proposed yet?”
Aldrich rubbed the bridge of his nose, frustration flickering across his features. “No. I can’t rush it…not with everything going on. Maybe I just want to take it slow, savor every moment.”
Fiona squeezed his shoulder reassuringly. “That’s okay. Build more memories first. You don’t need to rush love.”
They slipped back to the table, where Merrick sighed, looking around at the calm. “It’s so quiet and peaceful. I don’t even remember the last time we had this much peace. Feels almost… unreal.”
Aiden’s smile faltered, his mind flickering back to darker memories…the night in Paris, the man he had killed. Flashes of old wounds and buried pain surged through him.
“Sir Aiden, there are some visitors for you,” the maid announced softly.
“Just Aiden, please. I’ll be down soon,” he replied, voice steady but heart racing.
He descended the stairs to find four impeccably dressed humans waiting. Their scent was unmistakably human…something foreign and cautious.
“You must be Mr. Aiden Rivers?” one spoke, polite but firm.
“Yes, that’s me. How can I help?” Aiden asked.
Aldrich stepped closer, a silent shield between Aiden and the strangers.
“We’re representatives from the Direction des Relations Surnaturelles,” the man introduced himself as Michael.
“We are aware of your kind and monitor interactions between humans and the supernatural, particularly here in France.”
Aiden’s heart tightened. “What is this about?”
“Mr. Rivers, you broke a law during your stay in Paris. Interfering in purely human affairs is strictly forbidden by our code. The murder of James…even if justified..was a breach.”
Gasps rippled through the team. Aiden’s stomach clenched, the weight of consequence settling like stone.
“We understand your remorse,” Denis said kindly. “And that you didn’t know the rule existed. This being your first offense, no punishment will be issued. But you must be cautious.”
Aiden nodded, voice soft. “I never intended harm beyond justice.”
“Next time, things may not be so forgiving. To help, we will assign a representative to guide you on human-supernatural boundaries.”
The team exchanged glances, the offer both a relief and a warning.
Michael bowed respectfully. “We also recognize you as the Moon Child and vessel of the Alpha Prime. You have our respect.”
With that, they left, leaving a charged silence in their wake.
Merrick broke it with a grin. “Aiden’s officially the coolest person alive now. But seriously, how do they know so much? Humans are catching up fast.”
Aldrich’s eyes narrowed. “Humans can’t be fully trusted, no matter how friendly they seem. Their interests are never purely altruistic.”
Aiden felt the tension but tried to shake it off. “At least I’m not in trouble. Maybe this representative will help us.”
“I’m not convinced. Humans always have a price,” Aldrich muttered, worry darkening his gaze.
Aiden’s lips curled into a mischievous smirk as he crawled seductively onto the bed, straddling Aldrich.
“We will not let our guard down around them, Daddy,” he whispered, fingers tracing Aldrich’s chest.
Aldrich’s breath hitched. “Did you just call me that?”
“Daddy,” Aiden repeated, sliding his hand lower with a wicked grin.
Their kiss deepened, Aldrich’s hands exploring, devouring every inch. The world outside ceased to exist…there was only heat, need, and the unspoken promise that they’d face everything together.
Later, at the mansion’s front gate, Merrick was on his way to horseback riding when he spotted a nervous young man adjusting his glasses awkwardly.
“Hello,” Merrick greeted warmly.
“Hi, I’m Elliot. Representative from Direction des Relations Surnaturelles,” the man said, extending a tentative hand.
Merrick shook it, amused by the soft grip. “I’m Merrick. Let me show you around.”
“Were you not going riding?” Elliot asked with a shy smile that melted something inside Merrick.
“Horse riding can wait.”
They walked in, Elliot pushing his glasses nervously, Merrick joking, but the young man rarely laughed…always a serious, deadpan reply.
“How long have you been with the group?” Merrick asked.
“Not long. This is my first assignment. I studied eighteen hours a day to get here,” Elliot replied, eyes bright with determination.
“Eighteen hours? Wow. You must be young.”
“Too young, sometimes. But I love it.”
Merrick chuckled softly. “I hear you’re werewolf and immortal? Quite the family.”
“Yes, and there’s a human living with us too,” Elliot whispered, eyes wide.
“Merrick!” someone called. “Our representative’s here.”
The team gathered, welcoming Elliot warmly…everyone except Aldrich, who crossed his arms, watching cautiously.
“You must be Aiden?” Elliot said, stepping toward him, excitement bubbling.
“Also my boyfriend and mate,” Aldrich interjected, stepping between them like a wall.
Elliot blinked, caught off guard.
Aldrich’s voice was firm. “A few rules: only those interested in updates get to listen, no snooping, you come, you update, you leave. Keep my team’s affairs off limits.”
Aiden laughed softly. “Don’t scare him, Aldrich. We’re family.”
“Merrick, show him around…maybe the city too,” Aiden suggested.
“I got you,” Merrick said, draping an arm around Elliot’s shoulders.
Grants whispered to Prince, “I think Merrick likes him.”
Prince smiled. “Not the only one.”
The air felt charged, like something was waiting just beneath the surface. As Aiden watched Elliot with wary curiosity, he couldn’t shake the feeling that this was only the beginning.
And Aldrich’s protective stance only confirmed it: whatever was coming, they’d face it together.
