Chapter 43 Chapter Forty-Three

Chapter 43 Chapter Forty-Three
Chapter Forty-Three
🪯🪯🪯
                Mirah

As I laid on my bed in the wee hours of the morning, I wondered how things had escalated to that point.

Being blackmailed into marrying an asshole of a CEO.

Being plunged into a world of bloodsuckers- Zeke hated being called that.

And lastly, threatened by a daughterofabitch whom I loathed with every drop of blood in me. The blood which she'd gladly drain.

I shuddered. I was going insane.

And Zeke was the cause of it all. No, my father was. If he hadn't forced me to marry Jayden in the first place, the wedding wouldn't have taken place. Then, I wouldn't have sought help from a stranger- who turned out to be a vampire royalty.

Everything would have been normal. I'd have been a normal bartender at Barcon, enjoying my normal life.

Instead, I was here pondering the best way to help my father's company without having to marry Jayden. Here thinking about how I was going to miss Zeke.

'Cause yes. I was going to stay away from him. He apparently didn't value me as I did. Since he didn't, of what use would it be, gambling with my family's life just to be with him?

‘He was with me last night.’ Darcel's words echoed through my mind, loud and clear. Tears stung the back of my eyes, as I turned to hug my pillow.

He'd probably realized that there was no future for us. He'd gone back to Weasels, and agreed to marry Darcel.

The tears flowed faster this time. ‘Not even a word of goodbye.’

What bullshit had he told me about vampires keeping to their promises?

Lies. Bullshits.

I forced my eyes close, trying to keep the thoughts away. But after thirty minutes of being unsuccessful, I sat up on the bed.

Biting down on my lower lip, and leaning against the headboard, my tears flowed down in a silent sob.

I whimpered, hugging myself.

“You are an idiot, Mirah.” I whisper-cried.

And even though Nessa wasn't at home to hear my cries, I refused to cry loudly.

I'd allowed myself to believe his words. I'd swallowed every lie.

Hook. Line. Sinker.

The result? He left me to be with the one that was more suitable for him.

Darcel had mentioned something about mating. Even though I didn't know what that meant in the vampire world, I suspected it was something sacred.

I didn't even know much about vampires. I grabbed at my phone which was lying on the bedside table.

Tears blurred my vision as I scrolled through my contact list.

Zeke. Without hesitation, I blocked and deleted his number.

But I didn't feel the vindication I'd been expecting. Instead, pain clawed at my heart.

I consoled myself by saying everything would be fine. I just had to sleep, and wake up.

Everything. Would. Be. Fine.

                Zeke

I felt the dark energy as I walked deeper into the alley. According to the twins, it was where they'd been attacked. The hairs on my nape stood up as the energy thickened.

The aura… It was dark.

The scene around me suddenly warped, but I didn't fight it. Instead, I allowed myself to be swallowed by the dark swirl of contaminated energy. When everywhere became still again, I was no longer in the alley.

I was still looking around, when a voice boomed.

“A royalty?” The voice was chilly, and laced with venom and hatred.

My hand went to the hilt of the sword on my waist band. Its blade was laced with vampires-bane, known to disarm and weaken any vampire. I looked around again.

The place was unfamiliar, almost as if I was in another dimension. It was shaped like a cave, with red eyed gargoyles lurking at all corners. They bared their mouth at me, but they didn't move.

“You want to see me?” The voice laughed; if the icy sound could pass off as one.

A cold force rippled through me, almost throwing me off balance.

“I smell him in you.” The voice continued, this time more unwelcoming than before.

Whatever it was, had obviously passed through my body, and I didn't like it one bit.

“Who?” I ventured to ask.

“Leave, this instant. Don't try to find me, or your miserable existence would be wiped off.” It warned.

That angered me all right. “How dare you call my existence miserable?” I flared.

It continued speaking, like I said nothing. “My war isn't with you, but with him. And the earlier you stay away from me, the better. You're too weak, and I  don't consider you a match.”

In a cave that was so unfamiliar, surrounded by hostile gargoyles, and a creature which refused to show itself, I could do nothing but listen on. Though I'd have loved to snap off its neck, if only to punish him for  calling my existence ‘miserable.’

The scene warped again, and my eyes widened. “Wait- who-”

I was back at the alley, with sweat running down my back. That place shook my strength. I couldn't place it.

While I was there, it felt like my life force as a vampire was being drained.

I'd planned to visit Weasels, check the alley, and return to Vermont with my findings. But with the latest development, that wasn't happening.

I leaped into the air, and made my way towards Mt. Glacier, the place where the meeting hall of the Circle was situated.

…

“We take it that you want to apologize, Prince Zeke?” Master Ragnarok asked coldly. He was the last person to take his seat, and his furious eyes swept over me.

The others didn't look so happy. I'd been skeptical about their arrival.

I ignored his question, and turned to the others. “Thank you for heeding my call.” I cleared my throat to continue, when Master Vignar interrupted me.

“Why are you here, Master Zeke?” He asked.

Not Prince Zeke, but Master Zeke.

I felt uncomfortable. “To give important information.” I said.

His piercing eyes didn't move away from me. “And why should we accept valuable information from a member who trampled on the Circle's rules? Embarrassed the members, and made us look like fools?” He rasped.

I didn't respond. Not that I could think of anything to say at that moment anyway.

“We can sort it out later. The issue on ground is greater than my offense-” I was interrupted rudely by Master Killian.

“I doubt it. You disobeyed the rules, Master Zeke. Until punishment is meted out to you, the Circle cannot and will not listen to any word you say.” His voice held a lethal note of authority.
