time is running out
I sat on the edge of my bed, looking at the dagger, my mind going blank at the very thought of what i was supposed to do with it. I let out a breath ‘i would not do it’ I told myself over and over again.
“this is ridiculous” i laughed to myself. I knew that i was not going to do it.
The image of his poisoned body burned into my mind. I shook my head, trying to get the gory sight out of my mind, but it felt impossible.
There was definitely no way i was going to harm him again, but the thought that i could potentially harm him. I sighed, rushing to the window to open it, and then taking the dagger and throwing it outside the window.
A knock came at the door, just as i threw the dagger away, making my heart race for the slightest of seconds, just in case the person at the other side saw it.
“hey” Terrovon called softly, looking at me, with what i assumed was an attempt to smile at me.
“h-hello” i almost smacked my forehead with how panicked i sounded.
“i… i just wanted to ask you how you slept” i cocked my head to the side, trying to understand why he would ask that, till i looked out the window, only to see that the sun was just starting to rise.
“ah..” was all i could say. The stress of the dagger had made me not get a wink of sleep all night.
“you don’t have to answer if you do not feel like it, i just genuinely wanted to see how you were doing” he said, his smile looking a bit more genuine this time around.
I nodded, opening my mouth to say something when he brought out a bouquet.
I looked at him, hoping that he would say something to explain why he got flowers in his hands. “i…” he started, suddenly looking very nervous. “i noticed that you did not get the time to really appreciate those flowers, so i got you this one” he said, looking anywhere but at me.
I felt my heart race. “ter…”
He shook his head, stopping me from saying anything. “You don’t have to say anything, just take them.”
My hands worked faster than my brain could process, taking them from his hands and then bringing them to my nose so that i could sniff them.
“if you want, maybe i could squeeze out a little time to take you for a walk in the evening?” for some reason, i could feel the butterfly at the pits of my stomach, and they were not ready to leave, no matter how much I tried to shake them away.
“i… thank you” he smiled. “but, I would not impose, you are bound to have a long day today, and i am sure you would want nothing more than to have a rest by yourself too.
He nodded. “i am not complaining, i would happily do that for you.” he said, smiling at me. “i would see you in the evening then.” he said, the light in his eyes not dimming even in the slightest, making it almost impossible to ignore.
“and Terrovon?” i called, just before he could walk out the door completely. “i never really got to say thank you, for helping me the other day, Valarrak would have…”
“you don’t have to mention it” he said, cutting me off, his voice sounding darker than it usually was.
I watched him leave, looking down at the flowers every once in a while. “it can’t be…. right?” i said to myself, trying to kill the feeling at the pits of my stomach.
“no… i am definitely just overwhelmed.” i said more to myself.
I laid on the bed, my eyes slowly opening as i tried to get a hold of myself.
“that was refreshing” i said, stretching myself out of sleep. It really was, getting the most quiet and peace of mind i had gotten in a while.
I looked around, trying to piece two and two together that was until my gaze landed on my bedside drawer.
It was slightly opened, which was odd as i never touched it, and a note sticking out of it.
I looking at it, thinking it over if it was wise to open it, or pretend as though i did not see it.
‘Ignorance is bliss’ i thought, looking at the drawer.
I felt my blood run cold, looking at the door that was slightly ajar.
I pulled my legs closer to my chest, suddenly feeling exposed.
“what kind of creep…” I heard footsteps from outside rushing from one place to another
I looked at the drawer one more time, wondering if the door and the note were related.
‘well of course they are’ i rolled my eyes at myself, my eyes landing back on the slightly opened drawer.
“no” i said to myself, standing up from the bed, looking at it one more time “oblivion is better” i thought to myself, going into the bathroom to shower.
As the water hit places, relieving me of the stress that i did not know i had bottled up, my mind stayed fixed on one thing.
The drawer.
“fuck it” i said, turning of the faucet, getting out of the bathroom with my still wet body, not even bothering to dry as i wrapped the towel around myself like that.
“My lady!” someone called from outside the door. “Lord Darius summons you” i said, nothing, barely even breathing as the person spoke.
“my lady?” the person knocked, till nothing. “my lady….” i was at this point, ready to pass out from the lack of air as i was still holding my breath, but i was not going to dare risk getting caught, so i kept still.
Soon after the person left, leaving me all alone with my racing heart, and my eyes fixed on the drawer.
I made my way to it, not even bothering to put it off any more.
As i slid the drawers completely, i stood frozen.
There, sitting pretty was the dagger i had no doubt thrown out the window.
My felt my hands shaky as i reached for the little note folded.
