"Give me another baby"
My eyes widened in horror. Suddenly, my body was filled with new vigour as I pushed him back. He didn't budge much but he moved slightly enough to give me some space to breathe.
“You’ve lost your mind,” I whispered hoarsely. “You need medical help!"
"Yes, the moment I found out I had a daughter…, I lost my sanity" he shouted
I pushed him again, but this time he didn't budge from his spot.
"Just go away Lucien. You will not get anything from me. I am already..." I swallowed "m... with someone else"
"And I don't care!" He roared, and the silence that followed felt heavy and suffocating.
He licked his lips and pressed his hands on either side of my head, leaning closer. Now he towered over me.
“Love, marriage, loyalty none of it matters to me anymore." His hot breath fanned my face "You were never his to begin with"
"Your words will not change the reality!" I spat "I am his, in every sense"
His eyes flicked between mine and the room went ice cold. It became difficult for me to hold his gaze.
"Really?" He moved with a dangerous smirk tugging at the corner of his lips.
“Then why does your breathing break when I stand this close?”
My throat tightened.
"Why does your body heat up when I touch you?" He pressed
I pulled back when he tried to cup my cheeks to prove his point.
"Why do your eyes hold the same desire for me like before. Hmm?"
I looked away.
"Look into my eyes and tell me you don't want me, Cynthia!"
He tilted his head, daring me to meet his gaze.
"I am not obliged to answer you anything" I breathed out "Just go from here, Lucien"
And then, suddenly, cold air hit me. I gasped when he was pushed off my body.
My eyes widened when I found Adrian holding him by the back of his collar.
"You bastard!" Adrian sneered, "How dare you enter my home!"
Punch
Lucien stumbled back at the first blow; the impact of the punch snapped his head to the side, but he regained his balance within a heartbeat.
“You’ll pay for this!” Adrian shouted.
He lunged again, but before his fist could collide with Lucien’s jaw, Lucien caught it mid-air with one hand and shoved him back with the other, forcing Adrian to stagger several steps behind.
My hand moved to my mouth and my eyes widened in pure horror.
Adrian tried to punch Lucien again but he easily dodged it.
They were roaring so loudly that I was afraid Aurora might hear it all. The sound was too loud to pass even through the soundproof doors.
"I will kill you today!" Adrian shouted and reached for Lucien's throat.
"That I should have done years ago!" Lucien came back and landed a punch on Adrian's jaw. "You not only stole my woman from me, but kept my daughter with you. You motherfucker!"
Taken aback, Adrian's eyes flicked at me in shock.
Lucien looked back to find my full attention on Adrian. He didn't waste a second in landing a punch on Adrian's jaw for the first time. It was as if he lost his control at that point.
"No!" I shouted. "Stop it, Lucien!"
"Why?" Lucien asked, looking back at me, "You felt his pain?"
I swallowed
“I haven’t even started yet,” he continued, stepping closer to Adrian, “and you’re already crying for your lover boy. Huh?”
Lucien always kept control over himself, but right now, he looked like a man out of his own control. His eyes were bloodshot red and he was just seconds away from killing Adrian.
And I was actually scared of that.
"What will happen when I will ..."
Lucien's words were left hanging in the air when Adrian pulled out a gun from his back pocket and aimed it at Lucien.
Lucien's head snapped to him and then down to the gun.
A sinister smirk broke on his lips.
"Your aim is weak Adrian"
He took a small step ahead, grabbed the barrel and pushed it slightly to the left, forcing the metal deeper into his chest, just above his heart.
"Just like you"
He met Adrian's eyes with a look of such hollowed-out vacancy that it was more terrifying than rage.
It was an invitation.
Open invitation to Adrian to prove himself a man enough.
His words hit the exact place he wanted. Adrian lost his temper and curled his fingers around the trigger. He was about to pull it when I suddenly ran to his side and placed my hand over his arm.
"No, Adrian," my heart was thumping in my chest, "you will not do this!"
Adrian's hold on the gun slightly loosened under my touch.
Lucien's gaze dropped to my hand on Adrian’s sleeve. His jaw tightened as he continued burning holes without blinking.
"You see, Lucien. She and Aurora are both with me" Adrian spoke in a calm yet dangerous tone "She chose me over you, in the past and always"
I swallowed hard when Lucien’s throat bobbed. Those words hurt him more than any punch ever could.
"And for Aurora, I am her safe place. I have raised her, I know every single thing about her. She will always run to me in need"
My hold on Adrian's arms tightened as I tried to stop him but it only pushed Lucien over the edge.
He roared as he lost his control, and in one swift move, he grabbed the gun and twisted Adrian's wrist back while pushing me away, making sure I wasn't getting hurt in the process.
"You stole every precious thing of me" Lucien roared in his ear.
His fist slammed into Adrian’s abdomen.
“Lucien, stop!” I begged.
He didn’t.
“You may have brainwashed Cynthia,” he snarled, “but Aurora... I will not let you take her away from me”
His voice turned lethal.
“She is my daughter. My possession. And I never let go of what’s mine.”
My blood ran cold.
“I will have her,” he raved, “one way or another. And I won’t hesitate to stain my hands with blood to take back what belongs to me.”
My eyes widened as I tried to come in between them but they didn't let me. Both of them were dead set on killing each other. My cries or begging had no effect on them.
They weren't looking like men anymore.
They were looking beast possessed.
Suddenly, the soft cry of Aurora reached my ears. She was banging her tiny fists against the door while crying.
"Please stop, Aurora is scared. She is crying Please!" I begged.
Adrian didn't.
But Lucien did!
Adrian’s punch landed on him. It was hard enough to split his lips but Lucien didn’t even flinch.
"Mumma.... AD" she cried, AD sounded like daddy.
Lucien's eyes were already fixed on the door, on the soft cries of Aurora.
With finality, he pushed Adrian away immediately as if winning this fight didn't matter to him anymore. I rushed to Adrian and placed my hand over his shoulder to stop him from going any further.
He gave one murderous look to Adrian before snapping his eyes at me.
He kept taking small steps back without lifting his gaze off me. I had never seen him look so empty.
"For now," he spoke while looking straight into my soul as his hand moved to Aurora's favourite stuffed toy on the side table, "I am taking this,"
"But next time... it will be her"
His eyes flicked to the door that was hiding Aurora from his eyes. The determination in his voice sent chills down my spine
My body trembled at the mere thought. It was as if he were talking about separating my soul from my body.
“Enjoy the time you think you still have with her.”
He pressed the toy to his chest, turned on his heels, and walked away.
I didn't have time to think. I opened the door and gathered Aurora in my arms as she cried against my shoulder.
My legs finally gave up.
I slid down the wall, hugging her tightly. Tears dribbled down my own eyes when I tried to console her while Adrian just watched us.
The last warning of Lucien was still hanging in the air. My body wouldn't stop shaking.
Because this time he wasn’t coming for me.
He was coming for my daughter.

I know, I know... you were probably expecting Lucien to end Adrian right here and snatch Aurora away. But Lucien has a certain... class 😈. But don't be fooled, he is no saint either 😉.
