Chapter 116: A New Empire

The Fury mansion was shrouded in an eerie silence as Taylor and Sarah sat in the dimly lit living room, their eyes fixed on the television screen.

It had drained them for these past few weeks, the feeling in the room, that of defeat, hung in the air heavy.

Veronica sat back in one corner, her expression unreadable, with a firm clasp on the leather chair's armrest.

The evening news was on, first with politics, current events of interest around the world, when the voice of the news anchor changed.

To their most shocking scene, was the declaration of the sale of Taylons Enterprises to its new owner. The company, which suffered serious financial setbacks, has been acquired by no other person than Nicole Okeke, Chief Executive Officer and President of Okeke Group.

On the screen was a clear shot of Nicole, standing right in front of the headquarters of the company; the newly installed Okeke Group logo was emblazoned above the entrance.

Her poised figure and calm demeanor seemed to say a lot about her victory.

Taylor dug his fingers further into the armrest as he stared at the image.

His throat was dry, and his mind raced with memories of what Taylons Enterprises once was; his legacy, his life's work.

Now it was gone, reclaimed by the woman he had wronged and underestimated.

"It's really over," he muttered, his voice barely audible.

Sarah turned to him, her face etched with concern. "Taylor, I..." She reached for his hand, but he pulled it away, eyes fixed on the screen.

"What's left to say?" he asked, voice bitter. "She's taken everything. There's nothing left."

Sarah faltered, unsure of how to respond.

She had tried to be a rock for Taylor through the implosion of their empire, but this was the final straw.

Veronica was anything but quiet. Her jaw clenched and her eyes blazed with anger.

"That snake," she spat, trembling with curses. "She thinks she's won. She thinks she can humiliate this family and get away with it. I'm going to make that bitch pay for this."

Taylor turned to her, his face pale, but his eyes ablaze with anger. "What more are you still planning to do, Mother?" he snapped, his voice rising. "Haven't you done enough damages already? Haven't you ruined enough lives?"

Veronica flinched as if struck, but her pride wouldn't let her back down. "I did what I had to do for this family," she said defensively.

"For this family?" Taylor laughed cynically, and his voice was laced with sarcasm. "Look at us, Mother. Look at what's left. There's nothing! Your schemes, your vendetta, your obsession with controlling everything, it's ruined us."

Sarah intervened, trying to mediate. "Taylor, please..."

"Don't," he cut her off sharply now, turning to Sarah. "And you... You were supposed to be my partner, my support. But you sided with her. You helped her destroy everything."

Sarah's eyes welled with tears. "I didn't know it would come to this," she said, her voice breaking. "I thought we were protecting the family."

The weight of his regret seemed too heavy for his shoulders, and he shook his head. "This family doesn't need protection, it needs saving, and I don't know if that's even possible any longer."

The room fell into an uneasy silence; the television now muted as the anchor moved on to other stories.

Veronica's anger simmered, a pot on the stove, but for once, she had no words.

At the former Taylons Enterprises headquarters, Nicole walked slowly through sleek halls, her heels clicking softly against the polished marble floors.

The familiar surroundings brought a flood of memories: meetings, deals, the vision she once shared with Taylor. But now, the building wore her stamp, her name.

The newly installed Okeke Group logo was plastered on the walls to remind her of how strong and resilient she had been.

People passed down the corridors, their eyes filled with curiosity and respect as they looked at their new boss.

Her head held high, her posture exuded confidence.

She stopped in front of a large window with a view of the city skyline. The view was breathtaking, but her thoughts were far from serene.

This victory wasn't about taking back a company; it was about proving to herself and the world that she could rise from the ashes of betrayal and loss.

Collins walked towards her, his face guarded. "It is all done, ma'am. The rebranding has been effected, and the press has been duly informed. Taylons Enterprises is now Okeke Group."

Nicole nodded, her lips twisting wryly. "Good," she said. "But this is just the beginning."

Collins hesitated, feeling that there was more on her mind. "Is there something else?"

Nicole turned to him, her eyes unreadable. "I was just thinking about how far we've come. How far I've come."

Collins nodded, his words very well considered. "You've built something remarkable, boss. But I hope you're not letting the past consume you."

Nicole's gaze hardened, though her voice remained soft. "The past is what brought me here, Collins. And it's what will guide me forward."

She stepped away from the window; her heels resounded with every step in the corridor as she continued around the building.

With every step, it was like the reclaiming of her power, telling the world she wasn't to be silenced or defeated.

She stood in front of the large desk that had been Taylor's, tracing her fingers along its edge as a whirlwind of thoughts swirled within her mind.

Different it was; even the decor had her feel and made for her vision, but somehow, it did not get rid of its history.

She let herself sink into the leather chair, closing her eyes as memories rushed to her head.

She thought about Taylor, about the dreams they once shared before it all crumbled.

She thought of Veronica, the woman who had orchestrated so much of her pain.

Her fingers curled into fists, her nails digging into her palms.

“That Jezebel must pay for her sins,” she whispered, her voice barely audible but heavy with determination.
