Chapter 239
Zachary had been busy lately. As Gwen closed the studio door, she couldn't help recalling what had happened that night.
What surprised her was that nothing had actually happened. Zachary had simply kept her company.
She didn't know exactly what Zachary had been thinking, but she respected his decision. After all, she herself wasn't particularly interested in that sort of thing either.
"Gwen." A familiar voice suddenly came from behind her.
Gwen turned around to see Justin standing not far away.
She froze, instinctively taking a step back.
"Gwen," Justin strode over quickly and grabbed her wrist. "I've thought it through. Let's leave together."
Gwen was completely baffled, having no idea when Justin had gone this insane.
"Are you crazy?" Gwen shook off his hand. "We've been divorced for ages. I have nothing to do with you anymore."
Justin's voice turned venomous. "You were so eager to divorce me back then because you'd already lined up your next man. How are you any better than me? But it doesn't matter. I've stopped blaming you. I forgive everything you did before—as long as you're willing to leave with me now."
Justin had completely lost it.
After reaching that conclusion, Gwen turned to leave without looking back.
She wasn't particularly worried at first. After all, there were surveillance cameras everywhere. Justin would have to think twice about whether he could afford the consequences of whatever he was planning.
But she'd still underestimated how far Justin's madness went.
As she turned to leave, Justin grabbed her and forcibly dragged her into his car.
"Let me out!" Gwen struggled hard, but Justin locked the car doors.
"Come leave with me." Justin looked at her, his eyes filled with stubborn insanity.
Gwen was about to speak when the car suddenly accelerated. Frightened, she grabbed the seatbelt.
While Justin focused on driving, Gwen quietly pulled her phone from her bag. To avoid drawing his attention to what she was doing, she kept her movements as subtle as possible.
With the phone hidden behind her back, she couldn't send a text directly. Gwen could only call Zachary and use conversation to divert attention. "Justin, whatever you want to say, let's talk properly. Driving like this is too dangerous!"
Justin had no intention of slowing down. Instead, her words made him speed up.
"Wouldn't it be nice if we died together?"
Lunatic...
Gwen looked away, noticing the call had connected.
"So where are you taking me now?"
Justin kept his eyes on the road ahead, his voice carrying a smile. "I'm taking you away from here. We'll go abroad together. Nobody will know us there, and we can live happily ever after."
He'd already made all the preparations overseas. He should have left the country a couple days ago, but he'd deliberately stayed behind for Gwen.
He'd already given her his true heart. If this were about Lynn, he wouldn't care whether she lived or died.
Gwen laughed coldly inside, unable to understand why he was acting so devoted at a time like this.
But saying anything now would only enrage Justin. She could only try to calm his emotions first.
"You mean we're going to the airport now?"
Justin glanced at her, probably wondering why Gwen was so calm. But thinking he'd already locked the car doors and she couldn't escape even if she wanted to, he probably figured she'd decided to accept it.
He said with satisfaction, "Yes. Don't worry, I'll treat you well. I absolutely won't let you suffer anymore."
Gwen said nothing.
She'd already gotten the important information. Now she just hoped Zachary had heard their conversation.
Justin drove at breakneck speed the entire way, reaching the airport entrance in just over half an hour.
"Get out." Justin's voice was gentle as he took Gwen's hand.
Gwen found it revolting and pulled her hand back.
This action angered Justin. His face darkened as he got out of the car, opened her door, and forcibly dragged Gwen out.
"So what if you don't want to leave with me? Do you still think someone's going to come save you? If you'd just listen to me, I could be gentler with you."
Sure enough, it didn't take long for Justin to show his true colors. Scum like him didn't deserve to live in this world.
Gwen's expression was cold as he dragged her out of the car. She opened her mouth to call for help from people nearby, but Justin suddenly said, "Calling for help won't work. Who do you think will believe you?"
No kidnapper would brazenly take someone on a plane. As long as he casually explained he was having an argument with his wife, passersby wouldn't ask too many questions.
Gwen realized this too. Frowning, she walked into the airport terminal with Justin.
The moment Vivian, who'd been waiting at the airport, saw Gwen, her eyes practically blazed with fury.
She raised her hand to shove Gwen aside. "This is who you came to pick up?"
Gwen dodged, frowning, too lazy to participate in their conversation.
Justin protected Gwen. "Yes. I've decided. Once we're abroad, I'm going to live a good life with Gwen. You're my sister—show her some respect from now on."
How ridiculous. She'd never heard those words during their four years of marriage. Now that they were divorced, she was suddenly hearing them.
She used to fantasize about all this, but now that it was actually happening, all she felt was desolation and disgust.
Gwen took a step back. "You brought me to this place just to make me watch you two perform? You're capable of transferring assets—why are you still in the country?"
Weren't they afraid of being caught?
"I'm not the one who transferred them..." Vivian washed her hands of the whole thing. "But you—you're already divorced, so why are you still clinging to my brother?"
Gwen couldn't take it anymore. She slapped Vivian across the face.
She rubbed her tingling palm, her tone cold. "Get it through your head—I've never clung to him. He's the one who forced me to come to this place."
"Impossible." Vivian couldn't believe Justin would do something like that. Just as she was about to ask him, she realized he'd already nodded.
Her eyes widened. "Are you insane? How is this any different from kidnapping? We finally have a chance to leave, and you're bringing a ticking time bomb with us. Do you think we haven't caused enough trouble already?"
"She's not a ticking time bomb." Justin walked to Gwen's side and took her bag.
He didn't know the phone inside was still on a call—he simply wanted to prevent Gwen from contacting the outside world.
Vivian thought Justin was a complete lunatic.
If she weren't so attached to her friends back home, she would've left long ago instead of standing here watching Justin act like a fool.
She turned to go change her flight ticket. But just as she was about to leave, footsteps suddenly sounded behind her.
