Chapter 121: Who I Am
Her yelling drew Jack’s attention to her as he quickly tilted on his heels with a soft apology escaping his lips. “I’m sorry,” he said lowering his head. “I’m lost and I need to find…”
“You don’t belong here.” she shook her head in disbelief. She sniff into the air and continued in a refined tone. “Staying here will burn your humanity. No mortal has ever survived the land of the dead.”
It was quite obvious that the lady recognizes Jack’s soul hasn’t left his body yet. This meant that Jack wasn’t dead yet to be in the land of the dead.
However, Jack was aware of this. He needed to hear something new, perhaps where he could find Jasmine.
“I know,” Jack replied in a soft voice. “I didn’t ask to be here.”
His voice for the first time in the land of the dead came with deep sorrow that anyone who heard it could easily tell he was sorrowful.
The lady didn’t act hostile to Jack. She needed to get answers for herself and know what a human with his soul intact is doing in the land of the dead. With Jack’s last response, she could tell he was sorrowful. “Did you lose someone,” she asked sternly. Her curiosity needed to be satisfied.
However, before Jack could open his mouth to speak, the lady drew back with fear in her eyes like someone who had seen a terror coming. Stretching her golden staff toward Jack, “You have darkness in you!” she cried out.
Jack didn’t know who the lady is yet nor has she told him her name. But from the way the lady is dressed and her foresight, Jack could classify her as a witch. Without anyone telling Jack he had darkness in him, he already knew of that. “I know that already,” he mumbled.
She couldn’t see Jack as a threat to her so she decided to lower her golden staff but curiosity is eating her up. He had not seen a human with the amount of darkness she has seen in Jack. “I will help you remove the darkness in you,” she politely offered.
“No!” said Jack in a loud voice. He wasn’t harsh but loud. “That’s not what I need now. the darkness is part of me and…”
She cast a wide-eyed gaze on Jack with her golden staff slightly raised, “Do you realize what the darkness will do to you if not removed?” she asked.
Jack cast a steady gaze at her with his eyebrows raised, “We are done talking about me. How about we talk about you?” he said. He nodded slowly and took two steps closer to her, “Who are you?”
She smirked to herself. No one had ever asked who she was. She had been in the land of the dead for centuries, not even the strongest beings or creatures have ever asked her that.
“My name is Lisa…” she said raising her golden staff above her head and continuing in a refined voice, “I’m the first witch and mother of witches and wizards.”
Bright lightning enveloped her golden staff. The charge from the bright lightning lit the scene followed by a great clap of thunder.
Jack stared with wide-eyed surprise. No wonder Lisa offered to strip him of his darkness. Only powerful witches could do that according to Zeo.
As the lightning lit the scene, she saw deep into Jack’s soul, his demon nature. “Oh no!” she cried out bringing down her golden staff. Immediately after the staff touches the ground, the lightning disappeared. “You have been touched by a demonic object and it’s slowly taking your humanity away.”
Lisa started drawing closer to Jack but Jack drew back. “Stay where you are,” he said. He didn’t want her to get involved in the matters he didn’t let her. What he needed was to find Jasmine and if she could be of help, it sounded great.
“You seem to like the darkness… why?”
Lisa during her earthly life as a witch has fought against the demons and witches who embrace dark magic. Anything that had to do with dark art, she shunned. She had lived her witchery life helping humans and excursing humans possessed by a demon or an evil spirit.
She was a very powerful witch that encourages all witches to practice white magic and shun dark magic. However, one of her human friends learning magic from her made a deal with Werewolf Overlord. Her friend was bestowed with dark powers by Werewolf Overlord. With the help of lesser demons at Werewolf Overlord’s command, her friend started raising dark witches loyal to hell.
When Lisa found out her friend has turned dark, she confronts her and offered to help. However, she used her darkness to obliterate Lisa.
On Lisa’s way to eternity, Werewolf Overlord sought to drag her soul to hell but she managed to escape. For centuries she had made the land of the dead her home.
Jack glanced at her with keenness and opened his mouth to speak. “The darkness is my business and if you will be kind enough, I want you to help me find my wife instead of talking about the darkness in me.”
Lisa lowered the flame of the torch in her left hand. She switched her golden staff to her left and stroked the ground. “This darkness will consume…”
“Enough!” Jack yelled. His eyes turned black. With his hand stretched towards Lisa, he gnawed at his bottom lip. “I have overstayed my welcome. I will take my leave now.”
Lisa felt bad being so persuasive. It was true Jack has darkness in him but he had never used it for evil. She could sense that but she hated to see humans having darkness in them or even possessed by a demon.
She didn’t let Jack leave. As Jack turned to leave, she gently pulled him from behind. “I can’t let you leave,” she whispered. Before Jack could open his mouth to speak, she dropped her staff and wrapped her arms around him, and silenced him with a kiss. “Come inside with me,” she whispered.
